I am sure China will control little North Korea, because they know better than to mess with big brother China.

To busy making money to worry about NK

SOLUTION: Announce a new humongous arms package for Taiwan that includes meat, gravy and all the trimmings (ballistic missles, advanced submarines, advanced fighter jets, advanced radar, etc.) and watch how China suddenly moves on N.Korea.

Put China on states-sponsoring-terror-sponsoring-states-list and freeze Chinese bank accounts worldwide.

China doesn't react well to threats, in case you haven't noticed. All that would succeed in doing is further pushing up tensions in this part of the world, with China reacting outrageously and perhaps even SIDING with NK outright.

No, methinks China is not doing more on the issue because NKorea has already garned the world's attention and is unlikely to attack again any time soon. They are just playing their cards and waiting. If NK attacked again I have no doubt China would do more.

China has absolutely NO responsibility to do whaever required to do by western country. North Korea was aunique 'Stalingrad' to prevent US military aggression at China. The US/Japan alliance playing a huge warmongering in the west pacific has shut the door of any cooperations! China is a huge country we can sustain any damages with present economy power, but it was 'dubtful' for RoK or Japan to substain any consequences of their so called 'pre-emtive' strikes against North Korea! Japan was too arrogance over the 'trawler incident at China and her present 'attitude' was unacceptable that there was no reason to 'cooperate' with such a neighbour! It is time to let US?Japan to understand the road to a 'substainable peace' must go through Beijiang! When you need help from China but rattling a dagger to 'stab in back'....do you believe anyone can work together with such a hostile partner!

I wasn't referring to a threat, by all means, the US should take the necessary steps to move forward with the new arms package.

there have been “50 deaths by DPRK hands. These were faults of 'gunboat policy' and encouragemt of japan to abolich article 9 in constitution!

The PRC has repeatedly advised to convene an emergency 6 Parties Talk to resolve the issue, but it is not being heeded. If the PRC has influence w/ the DPRK, then the emergency meeting is how they see the situation resolving the problems. No meeting, then the PRC can not advise too much.

Doesn't the situation demand that the Sec State be in the region to put together a solution?

Chinese has a say:"people bare footed do not scare of the people who wear shoes". N.Korean are bare footed. They are poor and no more to loss by going to war. S. Korean wear nice shoes and they are rich. Therefore S.Korean have a lot of things to loss if go to war. Chinese know this very well. This is why Chinese would not push N.Korean. S Korean should know this as well. 40% of S Korean population are living around Seoul and Seoul is only 40 km away from 38 Line. N. Korean can easily bombard the areas around Seoul. US and Japan do not care this because they do not and never care loss of Korean lifes. Chinese way is to save more Korean lifes, both north and south. It is the way to go.

It should be "people bare footed do not afraid of the people who wear shoes".

The goons in the PLA admire the Stalinists of North Korea.

I want to ask Adm Mullen, how many so called 'wargames' were held in front of China's doorsteps and why it was so frequent even before the Cheonan incident! And you will got a clue who was the troublemakers!

Just do nothing. Stop all aid. Make NK more of a financial and political burden to China, then China will act.

If you looked at the wikileaks cables it would appear that China's control of NK is more limited than we like to think. When you think about it, that's not a surprise. How do you control a meglomaniac like the dear little leader? I'm not sure it can be done any more effectively than Chamberlin "controlled" Hitler.

Sure they do, they just don't like it. But it's the only thing that seems to make them take our views seriously.

All that would succeed in doing is further pushing up tensions in this >part of the world, with China reacting outrageously and perhaps even >SIDING with NK outright.

North Korea ALREADY succeeded in pushing up tensions, and China is ALREADY siding with North Korea outright.Or do you not follow current events?

No, methinks China is not doing more on the issue because NKorea has >already garned the world's attention and is unlikely to attack again any >time soon. They are just playing their cards and waiting. If NK attacked >again I have no doubt China would do more.

China will do more only when they're own interests, economic and strategic are threatened by North Korea's behavior. The US-SKorea drills in the Yellow Sea have sent a strong message to China already in this regard.

US, should shut up and stop acting like a little kid. China are worse, but America has very dirty hands.

The only player which can substantially mitigate the conflict on the Korean peninsula is not China, it's the US. For China, NK has become a burden since long time, but they can't let NK go and let the conflict escalate because too much is at stake for China itself. For better or for worse, China is held captive by it's erratic neighbor. That doesn't mean though that China doesn't have enough influence any more to use NK for at least some tactical jibes against the US. The problem is that the Obama administration is too ailing to open another domestic front of conservative furor when they dare to start talking to evil communists...

If you feel sorry for children in North Korea. Send them chocolate.
