More like another American folly. To pretend that there wasn't widespread bipartisan support for military action is to rewrite history. A CNN/Gallup poll in October 2001 showed 88% of Americans supported military action in Afghanistan. Out of 37 countries that were surveyed, the US, Israel and India were the only 3 countries where a majority of the public supported military action.

Nonsense. Joe will struggle to fully withdraw. Military won't let him. Taliban take the country by end 2021 because Joe broke the deal and gave them reason to fight on. All so he could have his 9/11 symbolic withdrawal date.

They need to just build a great big wall around the whole country nothing in, nothing out let the taliban have it, but they can never leave and no one can enter ! Sad for those who remain I know but ...............

The withdrawal from Bagram Airfield is the clearest indication that the last of the 2,500-3,500 U.S. troops have left Afghanistan or are nearing a departure, months ahead of President Joe Biden's promise that they would be ****gone by Sept. 11.

Maybe Biden would be more alert about US security concerns.

It is about bloody time to leave these countries to their own devices. Twenty years, untold billions of dollars and thousands of lives later, exactly zero progress. Once bin Laden was exterminated, the reason to be in the area was gone.

Wrong, Trump was the first President to aggressively push to leave the entire Mideast against literally everyone in the Pentagon, hawks within his own party and even some Democrats.

In a statement to CNN, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that, “the price for leaving too soon or in an uncoordinated way could be very high,” arguing that global security continues to be at risk from international terrorist groups who might organize attacks from Afghanistan.

And former commander of all troops in Afghanistan, retired Marine Gen. John Allen, did not hold back in his condemnation of Trump’s withdrawal plan and his motivations for it: “I believe it’s political. There was no tactical, operational or strategic merit to doing this.”

Trump’s announcement has even been met with opposition from his supporters in the Republican party as well. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-S.C.) called it a “mistake” and warned against “any earth-shaking changes in regards to defense and foreign policy.”

Short-term memory loss is an occupational hazard to the libs.

Trump wanted out in May. Biden broke that deal and chose 9/11 because he wanted to make it HIS deal on a symbolic date. And now it is all going wrong.

Saying this is Joe's achievement is delusional. And anyway he may still not get it done. And will leave 650 soldiers there. Who will continue to be a target and cause the Taliban angst.

afghan will be overrun by taliban or similar, back to old stoneage ways. not because the war failed, the war was doomed from the start. it's a people that hate each other and the war was a means to propell the military machinery and extract resources from the area.

The Middle East is worse now that during the Arab Spring.

The economic crisis is far more severe and protests are already popping up across the region - in addition there is already civil war activity brewing in the Levant (not just Iraq) and Afghanistan. Yemen is still as hot as ever and Iran is getting hotter.

The migration crisis is going to be far worse this time round.
