Another republican folly remedied by a democrat.

More like another American folly. To pretend that there wasn't widespread bipartisan support for military action is to rewrite history. A CNN/Gallup poll in October 2001 showed 88% of Americans supported military action in Afghanistan. Out of 37 countries that were surveyed, the US, Israel and India were the only 3 countries where a majority of the public supported military action.

Nonsense. Joe will struggle to fully withdraw. Military won't let him. Taliban take the country by end 2021 because Joe broke the deal and gave them reason to fight on. All so he could have his 9/11 symbolic withdrawal date.

They need to just build a great big wall around the whole country nothing in, nothing out let the taliban have it, but they can never leave and no one can enter ! Sad for those who remain I know but ...............

The mental religous people who want to flog the country to death can do just that with no input from anyone any longer.

It will become the next ISIS in a very short time.

Another republican folly remedied by a democrat.

In your universe maybe. In this one Obama expanded the war, in his 8 years and the Democrats (and their GOP pals) blocked Trump from pulling out. I remember them saying he was irresponsible for wanting to pull out.

Your Democrat friends are as bloodthirsty as the Republicans are. Own up to it.

Looks like prime real estate. Bet they are delighted to have it back. They can use it to fly their F-16's and other air power assets........

The withdrawal from Bagram Airfield is the clearest indication that the last of the 2,500-3,500 U.S. troops have left Afghanistan or are nearing a departure, months ahead of President Joe Biden's promise that they would be ****gone by Sept. 11.

Maybe Biden would be more alert about US security concerns.

The U.S. has **refused to say when the last U.S. soldier would leave Afghanistan, citing security concerns, **

Biden does what Trump campaigned on and failed to do in four years - end the endless wars of the NEOCON Repubs....and Trump supporters criticize him....figures...

Trump was never smart, experienced, or strong enough to get it done....similar to his campaign promise to build the border wall that Mexico would pay for....another failure....

Trump supporters can't make up their mind - criticize Biden for ending it or criticize their fellow Repub NEOCONs for starting it...

Historically, the Democrats have been the warmongers. WW1, WW2, Korean War, Vietnam, in all cases American involvement began under Democratic presidents.

It is about bloody time to leave these countries to their own devices. Twenty years, untold billions of dollars and thousands of lives later, exactly zero progress. Once bin Laden was exterminated, the reason to be in the area was gone.

Excellent news! Great work by the Biden Administration.

Another republican folly remedied by a democrat.

Wrong, Trump was the first President to aggressively push to leave the entire Mideast against literally everyone in the Pentagon, hawks within his own party and even some Democrats.

In a statement to CNN, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned that, “the price for leaving too soon or in an uncoordinated way could be very high,” arguing that global security continues to be at risk from international terrorist groups who might organize attacks from Afghanistan.

And former commander of all troops in Afghanistan, retired Marine Gen. John Allen, did not hold back in his condemnation of Trump’s withdrawal plan and his motivations for it: “I believe it’s political. There was no tactical, operational or strategic merit to doing this.”

Trump’s announcement has even been met with opposition from his supporters in the Republican party as well. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-S.C.) called it a “mistake” and warned against “any earth-shaking changes in regards to defense and foreign policy.”

Good luck to the Afghans against the religious zealots. It’s disconcerting how harmful religion is to the world.

Well, that’s just not our problem anymore. Doesn’t matter, at least now we’re out of there and that’s the only thing that matters.

Didn't that democrat vote for the invasion of Afghanistan in the first place?

Short-term memory loss is an occupational hazard to the libs.

Trump wanted out in May. Biden broke that deal and chose 9/11 because he wanted to make it HIS deal on a symbolic date. And now it is all going wrong.

Saying this is Joe's achievement is delusional. And anyway he may still not get it done. And will leave 650 soldiers there. Who will continue to be a target and cause the Taliban angst.

Typical bungled execution by Joe. Should have sent Kamala to deal with this.

In 2001 the armies of the world united behind America...

Who writes this guff?

The title forgot to include "and leaves the Afghans to their fate."

Why not call them what they are, the Afghan Division (Taliban) of the Pakistan Army will be coming in soon, wonder who will defend the Afghans now.

Well, so much for girls learning to read anymore in that country... and so much for their uncles having to wait until their neices are at least 11 to marry them.

afghan will be overrun by taliban or similar, back to old stoneage ways. not because the war failed, the war was doomed from the start. it's a people that hate each other and the war was a means to propell the military machinery and extract resources from the area.

The Middle East is worse now that during the Arab Spring.

The economic crisis is far more severe and protests are already popping up across the region - in addition there is already civil war activity brewing in the Levant (not just Iraq) and Afghanistan. Yemen is still as hot as ever and Iran is getting hotter.

The migration crisis is going to be far worse this time round.

everyone loses except democrat backed neocons who already made off with small fortunes paid in full with lives, lies, and Chinese capital.

After 20 years. After so many deaths, so much pain, so much destruction, so many families destroyed, so many futures ruined, etc etc, mostly locals. They are leaving, arguably, leaving the place worst than when they first came.

Look at the photos folks.

Not many Afghan troops to be seen.

Good bye and thanks for all the fish.

Old Pastun proverb.. Invaders have watches, Pashtuns have the time.

Alexander the great, The British, The Russians and now US/NATO.. all couldn't prevail over the mountain tribesmen..

American proverb, its not the dog in the fight, its the fight in the dog.

The beginning of the end of Pax Americana.. next?

Did they scortched earth it before they left, booby traps everywhere, or did they leave fully fucntional with fridges stocked and runway lights working ?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

After the Taliban overrun it, maybe they'll change the name of it to UBL International Airport.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well the Taliban should have that under control in about two or three weeks. U.S. Military should have a rule no structure left behind

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So no more illegal bombing campaigns by the US against Syria originating form Afghanistan? Oh wait--US is still in Iraq.

Afghans say U.S. left Bagram without notice.
