U.S. gov't heads to court to seize private land for Trump's border wall in Texas

Huh... and here I was thinking that the Republican Party was the party against big government seizing people's private property and trampling their rights in order to do whatever it wants.

Govts are there to hassle citizens from living their lives. Taking land isn't a party thing, it is a govt thing.

Republicans just think that the govt which governs least, governs best. For many needs, that is true, but not for all. The current President isn't a true Republican and it seems that most of those in office are either, since they keep spending and spending and spending without ever planning to pay off the debt.

This fiscal conservative, not a republican, thinks the only way to limit the power is to stop deficit spending with a law, require the US govt to under budget by 5%, paying off the debt, and cut back on national defense, internal spying, DHS, TSA waste. Fix the immigration laws to make illegal immigration useless. Make it impossible to work without being legally allowed to work in the country. Make it so having a baby inside the USA doesn't convene citizenship if either parent is illegally in the country or on a non-permanent visa. Seize all the property of any business hiring or paying anyone not approved by the govt to work in the USA. No more incentives to come and no border wall is needed.

There is no excuse why the US should be spending more than the rest of the world on military. Or prescription drugs.

The wall was proposed by Roger Stone (Republican serial fake news spewer arrested earlier along with other Trump syndicate members) as another way to attract white nationalists and others fearful of those not from their demographic, in this case people from south of the border.

The 'wall' will barely put a dent in cross border problems, and cost working and middle class taxpayers (not Trump and his fellow elite who've been given tax breaks). It will take moneys away from other needed projects that serve the general population.

I don't think forcible seizure of private land by the government is right. That's not fair in a democratic free society. Either negotiate for purchase at a healthy price to convince them to sell or leave them alone and find another way around the problem. Those Trumpsters no where near the border will cheer his efforts, and those near the border will flip just like coal miners losing, the farmers losing,the seniors who will lose their public assistance, and now the border residents.

The Trump promise to the people of the US that Mexico would pay for a "beautiful wall" was proven true the moment he took office.

Well since the land originally was Mexico's and then they lost it in a war, in a sense Mexico really is paying for the wall.

Given the fact that illegals crossings this year was an all time high, one of the highest in recent memory the SC did acknowledge the issue with DACA is unconstitutional. A step in the right direction and a start. California and other border States are a complete mess when it comes to illegal immigration. The Democrats have been completely incognito on this issue and now as crime and homelessness are rapidly rising, liberals are complaining about the prospects of imminent domain? For one thing by the time a person can either scale or even attempt to cut through it, the border patrol is en route or ev if they bypass it, they need to reach the secondary wall. So it greatly slows illegals down and makes it much, much easier to apprehend them.

about 650miles of wall, mostly fencing currently covers the border, in Trumps first 3yrs less than 100 miles of new wall has been built, most of the work has been spent of replacing existing wall/fencing. so currently there is over 1200miles that has no wall or fencing at all. Goodluck getting that done in a year

As it goes up and as more of it’s being built, no one said, it’s impossible to enter the country, but this will significantly slow them down and that’s exactly what you want to slow them down and to allow CBP to easily apprehend them. So this is one step at fighting illegal aliens from slowing them down from entering the country illegally.
