U.S. health care bill clears last hurdle before passage

With plenty of goodies attached to the bill for various Democratic Senators to enable the 60 votes needed to move forward.

A pathetic piece of legislation.

I wonder how many of these idiots are going to vote against the bill, and then go home and try to claim they opposed it? I wonder if any of their voters will believe their lies, and vote to re-elect them after this.

How many of these congressmen have to face to go home and tell their constituents that even though this bill would help them, they voted against it?

How are they going to tell their constituents who can't get health insurance that they voted against the bill? < :-)

A pathetic piece of legislation.

I agree. And Merry Christmas to you and yours as well, my friend.

Peace,

Taka

You can now mark this in the history books as the start of America turning into a third world country because after they raise taxes to over 55% of your income (and all other things that they can dream up to tax) to pay for this there will be no middle class left - only the rich and the poor. And just think world, we Americans did it to ourselves without any outside help!

By the way - Merry Christmas to everyone at JT

Shock. Horror. People will get free treatment when they're ill.

Nice to see America being dragged into the 20th century.

It is shameful that it has taken this long for Americans to realize that some kind of national health care is required. We have been the last developed nation for some time to get with the program.

For too long we let big business scare us about universal health care. So many of you bought into the fear mongering that you would be taxed to death or lose your medial self determination.

Well, you were wrong. Normal working people in our country need health care and it is about time something was done to make it happen.

Is it the ideal model? No, it isn't. But it is a much needed start.

If you want to say that the US is third world, you need only look in the mirror today for how we deal with the welfare and health of our working population and the growing masses of the poor. Change was needed and is finally coming.

I am so proud of my party! Democrats voted down the stupid bit of wingerosity called "the DeMint Amendment",53-46. Supposedly, the amendment would have prohibited the practice of trading votes for "pork and pet projects" as wingers like to call the special incentives Harry Reid offered senate holdouts.I guess no one told Demint that Americans voted for wealth redistribution, by force if necessary, and the Democrats are going to deliver.

For too long we let big business scare us about universal health care. So many of you bought into the fear mongering that you would be taxed to death or lose your medial self determination." Well, they just gave big insurance companies and big pharma a boost. Your post is immature today.

Shock. Horror. People will get free treatment when they're ill. " Whose gonna get free treatment? unless you come over my house and I'm giving you first aid, you ain't getting anything free and you are part of this problem.

Is it the ideal model? No, it isn't. But it is a much needed start." Well, I guess you live in Nebraska.

skipthesong. I can't make heads or tails from you post. What the hell does Nebraska have to do with anything.

Look, the legions of "I don't want big government in my life" types are some of the people who most need this bill to pass. They are working people with little or no health care coverage and are the most exposed if someone gets sick, to losing everything to pay the bills.

The US is medieval when compared to other so called first world nations. We bleed the middle class for health care and leave the lower classes to rot. What kind of idiocy is required to miss that this is a bad thing for everyone.

See people without proper care are the ones who will help spread disease. They are the ones who end up costing you tax money anyway when their illnesses go from minor inexpensive treatable issues to major hospital stays on the dole.

For a so called Christian nation based on a faith where everyone is supposed to look out for the next person, we have a hell of a way of showing it by leaving half the nation without health care and a lot of the rest stuggling to manage buy with modest but very expensive care.

This is a start. And it has to start somewhere. Is it the right solution? Not yet. But it is a first step towards changing things and bringing our country out of the dark ages.

So, everyone thinking this is national health care, is of course either an idiot, delusional, or hopefully, just misinformed. This bill will leave 18 million uninsured, it will cost trillions of dollars, will raise taxes, and cut medicare. Hooray! Oh, and the Insurance companies, which were previously opposed, are strongly supporting this bill. Try to guess why.

No one will be getting free treatment, rather, everyone is required to have health insurance, and will have to pay a fine if they don't. Thats the big secret of this bill. Oh, and yes, you can't forget it massively increases the size of the bureaucracy, adding inefficiency, to the already burdensome problem of healthcare. Honestly, we'd have been better off with no bill then with this one.

How are they going to tell their constituents who can't get health insurance that they voted against the bill? < :-)

Considering how unpopular this is, anyone who wants to be re-elected will do everything they can to either spin this to be as positive as they can, or distance themselves from it as much as possible. This, is going to be the anchor around the Dems necks come next November. Dirty Harry is already planning his retirement, as Nevadas will be throwing his worthless butt out of office.

"But it is a first step towards changing things and bringing our country out of the dark ages."

Props, tkoind. I like how you also use this issue to slag off our country and the over-the-top Christianity.

"We bleed the middle class for health care and leave the lower classes to rot."

And points for working in the class envy talking points earlier. You are good at what you do.

The republicans hate medicare. They have always hated medicare. But now they hide behind medicare as an the sacred entitlement that they are trying to save. Please. < :-)

tkoind2: "skipthesong. I can't make heads or tails from you post. What the hell does Nebraska have to do with anything." I was trying to point out how that state got a lot of perks in order to pass this. It seems they get off real nice compared to many other states who are going to see our rates go up, just to name one item.

Look, the legions of "I don't want big government in my life" types are some of the people who most need this bill to pass." how about this, cut the gov down to a moderate size, cut off a lot of those stupid things that are funded. If the gov didn't cost so much as it is now with so much fat, I think this would go over a lot easier. Now how many government employees does it take to change a light bulb?

They are working people with little or no health care coverage and are the most exposed if someone gets sick, to losing everything to pay the bills." yes, but those who have been receiving free health care, and I was once one of them, will still be getting free care who is not going to get such care are those who made a good amount of money the previous year. Not the current year in which they may have lost their job. This bill does not cover it. They really needed a sort of insurance savings plan, but that idea was from a republican and Denis Kucinich, so it was shot down because this is really more for the team than it is for the people.

The US is medieval when compared to other so called first world nations." As a person who has worked in the med field and is married to a doctor, I am going to be blunt and say you have been swayed not by logic but by words. "We bleed the middle class for health care and leave the lower classes to rot." Prove to me right now that a poor person is refused care anywhere in the US even if they are not a citizen and I'll show about 10 countries that refuse to treat non-citizens yet you believe they are above us. What kind of idiocy is required to miss that this is a bad thing for everyone." No one is arguing that health care needs to be redone! No one in their right mind, but show me, point by point what is in the bill that makes what was idiocy is now not.

See people without proper care are the ones who will help spread disease." Bull, have you never gotten yourself checked for aids at a local board of health? how much did you pay? You can get treated for STD's, and a slew of other communicable diseases as long as the CDC specifies it is. "They are the ones who end up costing you tax money anyway when their illnesses go from minor inexpensive treatable issues to major hospital stays on the dole." Ah, but the lawyers who are ready to sue at the drop of a pin are not? Or those kids that are walking into, and I've witnessed this, driving up in a BMW, nice clothes, fancy cell phones are not?

For a so called Christian nation based on a faith where everyone is supposed to look out for the next person, we have a hell of a way of showing it by leaving half the nation without health care and a lot of the rest stuggling to manage buy with modest but very expensive care." Now you are picking from air. how the heck do you come to "half" when even your beloved party is still debating whether its 30mil, 50 mil or as low as 15mil and to add to that, its going to cover 30mil who are now "listed....listed.....listed" as uninsured. Your half is propaganda.

Cry at the insurance companies all you want. Your god-like party has just given them and the pharmaceutical companies their big wish. I'm gonna go as far as saying the government is committing robbery especially now that we have to put in at this moment but don't see a benefit until 4 years from now (and since when did we trust government to be on time for anything?). This is nothing short of thievery. If I pay now, I want it now. Are you going to be down with me if those benefits don't pan out in four years?

aday: "The republicans hate medicare. They have always hated medicare" Yes I am sure they do, but the dems have just did the repubs killing for them.

This is a start. And it has to start somewhere. Is it the right solution? Not yet. But it is a first step towards changing things and bringing our country out of the dark ages

18 million will be left uninsured by the new bill. But, if the Stimulus Package and its paper trail is any index, they will all be in repub counties! Hahahahahaha.

Senate passes the bill. Merry Christmas to all. < :-)
