If you believe that human rights are behind the American obsession with breaking the independence of the Iranian population, you might also believe that Biden didn't win the election.

It would have been easier if the Biden administration had stayed with Trump’s Iran policy as it was working well.

If you believe that human rights are behind the American obsession with breaking the independence of the Iranian population, ...

Americans just can't believe that free people, with free elections, would actually CHOOSE the Iranian govt they have. The same goes for nearly all the countries run by authoritarian govts that the people can't get out from under.

Call it a cultural flaw, if you like.

People should be allowed to choose their governments without a gun to their head. Targeted sanctions against specific people is just 1 method to make it uncomfortable for the people causing the problems. It forces them to use other people to gain access to anything outside their country. A little hassle, but hardly any impact to normal people in the country. Just look at Putin's girlfriend. Overnight she became extremely wealthy ($100M+) because Putin was sanctioned. She gained money, properties, and "stuff" all because Putin didn't want to hold the money and needed a proxy to do business outside Russia. She has a little place in Monaco. https://www.theweek.in/news/world/2021/10/05/what-the-pandora-papers-say-about-putins-inner-circle.html and https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/10/4/pandora-papers-some-of-the-names-listed

The sanctions announced by the Treasury and State Department targeted government officials and organizations involved in the repression of protesters and political activists, and prisons where activists have been held in brutal conditions.

Well done, although:

It would have been easier if the Biden administration had stayed with Trump’s Iran policy as it was working well.

The election of the terrorist president had the lowest turnout in history of the Islamic Republic.

Strong, rival candidates were barred in the race.

The Ayatollah predicted a low turnout of voters would result in Iran's enemies putting more pressure on it.

Many Iranian voters refused to vote because they knew it would not change the conclusion.

So, those majority of non-voters were able to influence the outcome where its enemy, the US, has applied pressure on it.

Good going to the peace-loving people of Iran who are struggling to overcome living under a non-demicrstic government.

Wow, Trump really screwed the pooch on this one. Five years ago, they were controlled and working with the people of the world. Now they're on the verge of nuclear weapons. That one is 100% on Trump. Remember than when Iran nukes someone - if Trump hadn't been incompetent, those people wouldn't be nuked.

Americans also couldn’t believe that Vietnamese people would actually choose the North Vietnamese government, but Americans were wrong then.

Wasn't the North Vietnamese government made up of Vietnamese people?

Why wouldn't Vietnamese people choose a North Vietnamese government? Should they have chosen a Cambodian government?

Is it unusual that a North Vietnamese government represented Vietnamese people?
