Members of the House voted 428-1 to pass the "Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act," which requires corporations to prove "with clear and convincing evidence" that any goods imported from the region were not made using forced labor.

Who was the guy who voted against it?

Good. Uyghurs/Tibet are only the tip of the iceberg. communist China is the enemy of the human race.

Good! Its a start.

Who was the guy who voted against it?

that's what I want to know.

I believe it was Thomas Massie, the Republican who often votes against things out of some concern for procedure or something else not related to the actual issue being voted on.

5 people also didnt vote at all, 3 Democrats and 2 Republicans.

> The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed legislation restricting imports from China's Xinjiang region over its treatment of the Uyghur Muslim minority, as tensions continue to escalate between Washington and Beijing.

Yup, that’ll set the Chinese straight, get them scared and hopefully they’ll change the error of their ways on their treatment of the Uyghurs. They’ll learn now for sure.

A few years too late, but don’t see any other countries putting genocide to the vote. I can imagine the internal discussions, should we say something about concentration camps?

Well they are technically re education camps.

according to the initiators

yes but these things are not as simple as that. I mean between shocking human rights abuses and profit, they’re is a huge grey area that frankly we need time to spread our investment portfolio so as not to include Maas rape serialisation and brutality cultural destruction on a vast scale.

But hey look at my new training shoes…shinny, shinny

have to go church time.

When this administration releases Jan 6 American citizen protesters,

held without charges or bail

in squalid conditions, with no due process or human rights,

they can lecture China on its behavior.

Hypocrite thy name is Pelosi.

Big deal. The Chinese will simply swap the stickers on the packaging.

Wouldn’t be the first for them.

From Newsweek:

The only legislator to vote against the second measure was Republican Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie.

The only legislator to vote against the second measure was Republican Kentucky Representative Thomas Massie. Massie has recently been criticized for sharing a Christmas photo of himself and his family holding guns days after the Oxford High School shooting.

Newsweek contacted Massie's office for comment.

Thomas Massie, now known as a “World Class Idiot”:

“The father of a Parkland victim hit out against Representative Thomas Massie (R-KY) after he shared a photo of himself and family members holding guns days after the Oxford High School shooting. Earlier that day, Massie shared a photo on Twitter that showed him and his family members posing with guns in front of a Christmas tree, with the caption: "Merry Christmas. PS. Santa, please bring ammo." -

In reality it will not make a great deal of difference either for suppliers or the region in China. It shows the US at least making the attempt to do something without actually interfering.

US companies may need to alter their supply chain a little to accommodate the domestic law.

No direct interference with China, but China will complain and threaten retaliation none the less.

ok and so what?

And yet the Israeli regime has 'most favoured nation' status despite it horrendous and murderous treatment of its Palestinian majority.

So while Biden babbles on about his concerns about human rights when he does things like this, it's about as convincing as when Trump would babble on about his concerns for truth while, for instance, forcing whistle blowers to seek sanctuary in Russia.

Good point *@zichi 4:42pm:“Check the labels” … BEFORE you buy.*

(Admittedly, have had my own, personal ‘crisis of conscious’ when pulling out the spring & summer clothes this year, that were purchased long before the Uyghur crisis came to light.”)

First good thing these blowhards have done in ages. Wonder how they propose to "punish" China though......

I second that

First good thing these blowhards have done in ages. Wonder how they propose to "punish" China though......

Not going to happen with the current administration. CCP companies are back in govnt contracts, TikTok is free to blast CCP propaganda, the Confusious institute is back in universities, Hunter is selling magnificent paintings to CCP dealers at 6 figure amounts, the "green" programs call for massive supply of rare earths from CCP run mining sites, I could go on for pages. This is just empty words again.

"In Xinjiang, across China, millions are enduring outrageous human rights abuses: from mass surveillance and disciplinary policing; to mass torture including solitary confinement and forced sterilizations; intimidation of journalists and activists who is have dared to expose the truth."

Did these same things happen in the US during WW2 to Japanese Americans? . . . and even now days?

Happy to see America taking the lead role once again as other people and countries just complain with no results other than skilling up their typing skills. America is a beacon in a dark world. China is on the cusp of America's ire. Outside is America.

1 ( +5 / -4 )

What is your solution? Boots on the ground?

Nothing. I can’t do anything and this resolution can’t either, but it looks good on paper dvd. If it doesn’t have any teeth. I’m sure the Chinese will get a good chuckle from it.

Well stated. Republicans care only for themselves, which is painfully obvious to anyone with an 8th grade education.

And the Democrats have done what over the last 11 months regarding China?….

Focus on the stimulus that we can’t afford and now the atrocities of China are coming to the forefront? Yeah, they care so much that they waited until the 11th hour.

Focus on the stimulus that we can’t afford and now the atrocities of China are coming to the forefront?

MAGA: Let's defend Chinese atrocities in this case because Biden is going to sanction them and focus on money directed toward the American people when it should be going to the corporate tax cuts we cheer. Classic MAGA

And yet scroll down a bit and he opposed Trump's second impeachment. In the chaos on Trump world not showing fealty at all times gets the cold shoulder.

https://www.lex18.com/news/covering-kentucky/rep-massie-trump-impeachment-serves-no-real-purpose-plans-to-object-in-wednesday-vote

Point is, this is a hardcore American rightist n Congress supporting a Chinese surveillance dystopia.
