American and its guns.

Americans will never do anything about this. We need to just accept it. It's now just part of the culture. If you have to live there, just put your kid in private school or hire a home tutor and try not to attend large events. What else can you do? Living in America means that this is just always going to be happening. Trying to change it is a waste of time. The gun owners would probably kill all of the non gun owners quicker than they would ever give up their weapons. This is just how it is now. I don't even see a point in reporting it anymore, honestly. Nothing will ever be done, nothing is ever changed to make anyone safer, so all it serves for is to make everyone miserable. Another day, another mass shooting. This is America, folks, love it or leave it.

But maybe do try to leave it, if you can.

Best thing to do then is to buy a gun to protect yourself.

Best thing to do is not live somewhere so awash in guns that people feel the need to arm themselves out of paranoia.

You know, like anywhere in the entire developed world other than the US. Its very comfortable not having to sleep with a gun nearby to feel safe.

Right, best to issue guns to new born babies too! Lets arm everyone in the US with guns and let them all shoot it out with each other, the winner gets to be president!

And if anyone takes THAT seriously, or the comment I am quoting, ya'll got some serious mental issues that need to be dealt with!

America has become a very sick nation.

Really sad, what's been happening to the US, and, to an extent, Europe.

It's also a rough vicious cycle, as in order to protect yourself from shooters, you'll have, yourself, to buy a gun.

Not wanting to turn this into a Japan-love comment (that I usually do) but... this is one of the many reasons I love Japan.

There isn't any REAL crime out here. Real as in mass murdering, bank stealing, etc.

And the saddest part is that nothing or very little is done about.

The United States of America (U.S./USA) does not have the will to put a stop to this tragic situation.

Wayne LaPierre must be laughing so hard after finding this out. He is nothing but an Iago always stirring up lies and crap for his own sick pleasure. He needs to be arrested.

Utter garbage.

*He is nothing but an Iago always stirring up lies and crap for his own sick pleasure. He needs to be arrested.*

For what? Because liberals hate the second amendment? Why so intolerant?

And most of the killers were taking or had taken psychiatric drugs and/or were in the middle of what is laughingly called "treatment."

It's not the guns that are the problem.

What's freedom when you can't even walk in the streets at night feeling safe.

Look at Uber's crime report, the problem is mostly USA's culture and it is unlikely to change.

It's just so funny when the NRATrump2A people salivate over their guns and how they are protecting from Tyranny from Hillary but then come to Japan which is a complete gun free zone. It's such a comedy. Sorry, no guns in Japan and you shouldn't have come here if they are so important to you (and why do you keep talking about your guns so much while in Japan while at the same time you cannot have them?).

So many Americans trust nobody, not family or friends let alone strangers. So fearful they feel the need to carry guns. Shoot first, ask questions if they survive long enough to answer. It make's law enforcement so much harder wondering if everyone you approach in doing your job either has a gun on them and if so will they get angry or scared and use it on you. The more opportunity for someone to get fatally injured, the more often injuries will occur.

As others have pointed out America will not change, at least until they grow up and develop enough wisdom and trust in their countrymen. And that could take centuries, assuming our species manages to save the planet. We all have a way to go to get intelligent enough to make the needed changes.

I guess our actions and inaction's betray us. We are really still just barbarians trying to evolve.

That is true if we have a look at the mass shooters background especially those school shooters most were from broken homes and on some sort of psychiatric drugs - we don't know what the effect of these drugs are.

Back in the 70's AR15 Assault rifles could be purchased via mail order and yet there weren't the mass shootings like there are today.

This is the West:

No this is America, many EU nations Australia NZ etc have very low gun crime and homicide rates similar to Japan. America has the highest homicide and gun violence rate of any 1st world democratic nation in the world even China with a population 3 times that of AMerican has a homicide rate 1/8 that of the US. So you using America as an average is setting the bar very low.

what say you "the west" haters

Apparently leftist Democrats should boycott McDonald's, Burger King, KFC or cable TV and the internet for being guilty of promoting sedentary lifestyle and junk food,

all lifestyle choices made by people by their own free will, name me 1 person who was gunned down in massacre that want to be killed by their own free will, (except the gunman themselves) there will come a time in the future when medicine will cure many of the things that kill us today,

but there will never be a cure for a madman in a gun massacre as long as they have easy access to weapons

Source? The article contradicts you, at any rate. Anyway, in the cases involving guns, it seems preferable that those people NOT have the ready access to weapons that America provides.

Very true. It’s nice not feeling like I need to carry my .45 with me everywhere I go.

"Best thing to do then is to buy a gun to protect yourself."

“The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.”

A bad guy goes to rob a convenience store and ends up shooting the cashier.

A good guy with a gun sees what happened and shoots the bad guy.

Another good guy with a gun runs into the shop and sees 2 people dead on the ground and a guy with a gun in his hand and shoots that guy.

Another good guy with a gun enters the shop...

Right, you say this because you want to justify in your own mind a preconceived notion that American's are mentally ill people, because "normal" people dont kill others....what a crock of bs!

It's frankly mind-boggling to see people arguing that "Best thing to do then is to buy a gun to protect yourself." Really? Don't these people look at statistics? Don't they see the US, with one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world, has a ridiculously high gun death rate, as opposed to countries with fewer guns? There's a direct correlation: more guns = more deaths. But sure, let's just arm everyone (eye roll)
