I feel bad for the dead and for the US Customs and Border agents who might have found these people. It is a thankless job. I've never been stopped by border patrol, but have passed a number of these checkpoints on I-10 over the decades.

I have seen other people pulled over, being hassled. Doesn't look like fun. I must not fit their profile. My car doesn't have places to hide stuff, not really.

Actually, the largest hassles came from the California agriculture inspection people who wanted to see all the foods we had in the RV at the border.
