And it can be done safely."

Says another Trump appointee with zero understanding of what daily life is like for the general population. More empty words, another empty slogan.

The United States is the hardest-hit country in the world,

Leadership failures at every level. 'Leaders' out of touch with daily life for those who do not live a privileged existence. Class divides made even worse by Trump etal.

with the coronavirus likely resurging even as flu returns.

I wonder how the pandemic deniers and their fringe/kook media will spin this.

I think schools need to go back - for some they will have had the best part of six months off. The may be done isolated areas where some caution needs to be applied, but schools cannot stay closed indefinitely.

However, people must still exercise caution - it is clear how rapidly the disease spreads once people let their guard down.

This idiot seems to know that he's going to be voted out in November and he seems to want everyone to go down with the ship.

Who cares if the kids get infected and spread it to their families?

Betsy DeVos has done sweet FA since given this job. She has absolutely no experience with education and is probably busier with one of her yachts.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Remind us what experience and grounding in education DeVos has again?

Oh, that's right. None.

Pressing for the schools to reopen is akin to sending children to a slow slaughter.

The pressure to reopen schools has come from the top, with Trump threatening to withhold federal funding from schools that refuse to reopen -- a stance that DeVos reconfirmed.

Nice, and yet more proof (if needed) that this administation is happy to destroy the already precarious education system.

Trump has criticized guidelines from the federal Centers for Disease Control for the safe reopening of schools, saying they were too rigid and too expensive.

Yeah, I mean, why spend that money ensuring children and staff are protected? Let's spend it on corona-fest rallies, golf, pointless space adventures, electioneering, paying off exes etc...

Who cares if the kids get infected and spread it to their families?

People with humanity.

Schools will not open this fall.

High school football will not be played this fall.

Big, yellow buses filled with children will not roll this fall.

Packed rooms with children playing musical instruments and blowing respiratory particles all over each other will not happen this fall.

... The President can say what he wants

... DeVos can say what she wants

... Our governors can say what they want

... Our School Superintendents can say what they want.

The virus speaks loudest - and when it comes to schools it is saying 'Come and get me.'

Ignore Trump/DeVos. The safety of our kids and school personnel come first.

DeVos is unqualified to be Education secretary, much like Rick Perry, who was named Secretary of Energy, years after asking for it to be abolished. Trump appointees have no experience nor belief in the ideals for the job they are supposed to do, thus doing much more harm than good with poor narrative and a lack of critical thinking and empathy.

Like President, like appointee.

School have reopend around the world.

America is behind the world on every issue related this virus

The Trump administration on Sunday again pressed for full school reopenings in the fall, even as resurgent COVID-19 infections raised mounting criticism that a premature return to classes could pose a danger of greater spread of the disease.

Donald Trump - sacrificing your kids so he can get folks back to work in a pitiful attempt to save his failing re-election...

But in two television interviews, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos insisted on the need for schools to reopen, even as several states were registering record numbers of coronavirus cases and hospitals in many cities were struggling to cope.

An education secretary who has no clue about education, children's' welfare....

Might as well sum up most of trump's appointments!!!!

And it can be done safely.

If you still believe a single word coming out of this administration about the virus now, you need to get your head checked.

Schools are being opened safely in other countries because they have their outbreaks under control. In the US its just racing around uncontrolled. The cost to the kids is horrible and it is entirely attributable to the complete lack of any sort of leadership or plan to get the US outbreak under control.

People with humanity.

So not the current administration.

So dramatic

He keeps screaming about it because he wants those children to swear allegiance to him and his ugly personality cult.

This idiot seems to know that he's going to be voted out in November and he seems to want everyone to go down with the ship.

I beg to differ Sir.

Trump has a vested interest in maintaining the virus and banning postal/internet ballots. In November he will declare a year long pandemic election cancellation. After the years postponement, Bidens dementia will be critical and the non-trump voting (poor inner city lower class minority’s) will have seriously succumbed to the virus.

“get those beautiful kids to our wonderful schools”

Here’s a president who’ll put his own political interests ahead of the lives of America’s children. Quite despicable.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Oh, that's right. None.

Oh, just realized you agree with me that DeVos has no experience. I guess you'd also agree that threatening to take funds away is a despicable move, right?

And they’ll always be in power.

No wonder social mobility is so poor in the US.

Are people playing a practical joke or getting overly frustrated?

If someone is that serious to reopen schools early without endangering lives, go ahead and give it a try. Just don't regret later..

So, Betsy Devos said "only .02% of kids are likely to die when they go back to school.

That's 14,740 children!

Welcome Back!

Infections among children are climbing to as many cases as adults over 80 in some states like Oregon! Over 80 children and staff were infected at a YMCA camp about a week ago.

Schools today - public, private, home are all a joke. They just teach the students to obey. Most teachers don't really care about student welfare.

When was the last time you spoke to a teacher, went to a school or studied education?

What's the basis for this statement?
