“We’re concerned by reports of unusual Russian military activity near Ukraine,” Blinken said

Shouldn't Blinken be concerned by reports of unusual illegal immigrants activity at the US border?

Same old Russia, same old Putin and his short man syndrome. Threatening to invade peaceful neighbors, imprisoning opponents, poisoning journalists.

A wannabe Communist China - without the money, tech or resources.

I’ll bet the Ukrainians regret giving up their nukes about now.

Well, we obviously need a special envoy....someone who is known and trusted by Putin - maybe even liked....

Who has previous business relationships with him and may even owe him money...

Who has sided with Putin even over his own Intel establishment....

Who for four years helped Make Russia Great Again....

Know anyone like that?

Yes, Biden should focus on the Ukraine and forget China. Xi is ecstatic.

Well, if you say so....interesting you now don't consider China a threat...quite a flip-flop...

Xi is ecstatic.

Guess Trump give him another million dollar "Trump Collection" clothing contract...

It is not an either or proposition. What has changed is that in 2014 the US was still following the terms of the treaty that re-unified Germany and ended the Cold War, namely that NATO would permanently station forces in the former Warsaw Pact. That made it easy for Russia to take the Crimea because NATO forces were too far away to intervene and didn't have airfields and other facilities ready to go. After the invasion of the Crimea the US tore up that old treaty and began building bases all over the former Warsaw Pact. Mr. Putin would have invaded last summer but NATO, including a lot of crack US Army forces, were having this endless series of "exercises" in Poland, Lithuania, etc. putting strong NATO forces very close to Ukraine. NATO naval and land exercises with Romania and Bulgaria put NATO forces right on the Ukrainian border. This is deliberate, a means to deter a second Russian invasion. None of this detracts from deterrence in the Pacific. It is not a one man show you know. The US has capable military leadership able to manage both theaters and then some. You know that too, because I believe you were a sailor on the old USS Midway at one point. One of those fellows I met over there who spent their career in Japan and never wanted to come back to the US, but are happy to take that pension check I help pay for.

Know anyone like that?

no we don’t. And neither do Igor Danchenko, Christopher Steele, Adam Schiff or Jake Sullivan- despite falsely and criminally claiming differently

You don't? I bet Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman do....

I don't understand the US' concern about some Russian tanks rolling into Crimea, when there is a potential invasion at the US border of a number of people greater than Denver or Boston.

How about sending some troops to the US border?

You don't? I bet Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman do....

No, oddly they don’t either. despite also claiming they had some tapes or something.

Hmmmm.....even though he's Rudy's business partner, the picture shows he and Trump standing there together, and he's been convicted of corruption contributing to Trump's campaign....

Welcome to MAGA-world....

Does Blinken even understand the meaning of the words "along the border"? Even Ukrainians say that the Russian troops are 260 km off the border. Tell Blinken how to use maps. Instead of talking nonsense Blinken should have demanded the Ukrainian regime to stop almost daily shelling of Donetsk and Lugansk by heavy artillery and stop killing people.

@GdTokyo

Sure they do. With the nukes they'll make so much money!! Now they are going to demand from Germany a huge compensation for the Nord Stream 2, sure the nukes could be very handy for that occasion. But the rest of Europe is just so much relieved that the Ukrainians do not have the nukes now. A monkey with a grenade, particularly with a nuke grenade, is just a worst nightmare.

@Desert Tortoise

the US was still following the terms of the treaty that re-unified Germany and ended the Cold War, namely that NATO would permanently station forces in the former Warsaw Pact

What treaty, exactly, stipulates the presence of NATO troops in the Eastern Europe? NATO promised Gorbachev in exchange for the unification of Germany and disbandment of the Warsaw Pact not to deploy its forces in the Eastern Europe and ex Soviet republics.

Mr. Putin would have invaded last summer but NATO, including a lot of crack US Army forces, were having this endless series of "exercises" in Poland, Lithuania, etc.

No, Putin did not invade for another reason. He knows the old dictum: never do what your adversary wants you to do. Actually, Americans will be extremely happy had Putin really occupied Ukraine - that would be a huge blow to the Russian-EU relations and an immense strain on Russian resourses. The thuggish and thievish Ukrainian regime also will be more than happy - now they ruined its miserable country to the poorest in Europe (in early 90s Ukraine had the economy about the size of France), and they are dreaming about some occupier - Russian, American, German, Chinese, Saudi, whoever. Just anybody who will feed, warm them and provide money to steal. So do not expect Putin to invade, USA and EU are welcome to pour their money in this black hole.

That's on the border in military terms. Mechanized forces can travel that distance in under three hours and be inside Ukraine. Russia is a country many thousands of kilometers across. Putting a big troop formation 260 klicks from your border is putting troops on your border.

The final revision of CFE, Conventional Forces in Europe, which Russia formally renounced in 2007, having failed to remove Russian forces from Moldava and Gerogia as the treaty stipulated.
