U.S. says Russian hackers targeting state, local networks

Russian cyber warfare tactics have been widely recognized by many 'western' intelligence agencies, but denied by the global alt right, including many Trump supporters, and others pushing for Russia's version of national socialism.

It's long been reported that Russia, Turkey, China, Iran and other authoritarian states have 'meddled' in 'western' state's affairs using 'western' media, pushing anti-democracy messages and trying to cause further chaos.

NB That does NOT justify US 'meddling' in the affairs of other states.

The FBI, due to past lies, cannot be trusted...

Russia is also preloading laptops with real emails and personal photos and dropping them off in Delaware. Scandalous.

U.S. officials said that Russian hackers have targeted the networks of dozens of state and local governments in the United States in recent days, stealing data from at least two servers. The warning, less than two weeks before the election, amplified fears of the potential for tampering with the vote and undermining confidence in the results.

Of course they are - Putin is doing everything he can to help reelect his Puppet...

Too bad we don't have a President who believes his own intelligence, security and law enforcement agencies.

Jokes on Putin. It shows he can't even win his own "elections" legitimately.... If one is so great in the eyes of their own people, one doesn't need to cheat or manipulate the odds in their favor. I hope their hypocrisy catches up to them fast not with a karma bus, but a karma bullet train.

Mr. Trump called the FBI "scum" several times in a row at a rally in Pennsylvania.

Nothing really new about foreign interference in US elections. The French openly supported Thomas Jefferson against John Adams, angered by a treaty signed with the British towards the end of Washington's second term. There is some writing by Hamilton that the Electoral College was formed in part to prevent foreign interference in the election of the President. The Soviets conducted political influence operations against US leaders throughout the Cold War using disinformation campaigns, forgeries of documents and letters, and the spread of propaganda through sympathetic individuals and front organizations. The KGB Main Directorate, their foreign intelligence directorate, had an organization called Unit A who's job was to meddle in US politics and find ways to discredit the US. Based on old KGB documents many of the conspiracies surrounding the assassination of JFK, or those regarding homosexuality or KKK ties to J. Edgar Hoover originated in KGB schemes to discredit US institutions (and many live on today despite being shown to be false). Same old, same old today. All that has really changed are the medium used to conduct these influence campaigns. Now the Russians use the internet instead of paper forgeries and word of mouth. The actual methods have not really changed. Hubert Humphrey famously turned down an offer of cash from the Soviets during his campaign against Richard Nixon.

More evidence, not that any is needed, that this president will do nothing to protect our electoral process from foreign interference if it’s to his benefit.

Mr. Trump called the FBI "scum" several times in a row at a rally in Pennsylvania.

The FBI lied to FISA court and spied on his campaign attempting to prove the disinformation planted by Putin through the Clinton campaign. Sounds scummy to me.

Since both the CCP and Russia would be happy with a corrup Biden presidency, that accusation is a bit of a contradiction in terms...

Since both the CCP and Russia would be happy with a corrup Biden presidency

Both of these countries are trying to manipulate for a Trump presidency. Nothing could further their interests more than four more years of Trump undermining US interests.

Since both the CCP and Russia would be happy with a corrup Biden presidency, that accusation is a bit of a contradiction in terms...

You mean rather than a corrupt and incompetent Trump presidency? Russia wins first of all by generating dissension and by delegitimizing our electoral process. They get the extra win by getting their preferred candidate, and there’s no mistake that’s it’s Trump. He’s the guy who is taking down the country in too many ways to count.

We knew from previous election cycles they were going to interfere again. If Trump really thought the Russians were going to support Biden he would’ve taken the measures he’s so far failed to. Says it all.
