In percentage of gross national income, with 0,15%, the US are of those that give the least. (Sweden gives back 1,41%). Per person, Americans give 95 USD when people of Norway give 800 USD... And lots of the money keeps going to countries the US has 'redesigned' , like Iraq or Vietnam.

I've travelled months in West China without seeing houses with heating or air-conditionning and nearly no personal cars, electricity was limited, hot water a few minutes a day. So that's not those hundred millions of people that can easily consume less. It's us in Japan, in Europe and in the US that need to lead the effort.
