At the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva on Thursday, the United States called on North Korea to dismantle camps it said held tens of thousands of political prisoners.

@Zichi

That would be a good start.

I agree, but those are camps which NK says don’t exist. I can’t see Kim acknowledging their existence. If he starts removing bricks from a wall it will eventually collapse.

Still worth a try.

You honselty think that cancelling war games is a BAD thing?

Cancelling the war games because Trump says he "waved his magic wands and we are now best friends with NK", IS A BAD THING. Think about it, we cancel the war games, NK resumes building nukes and firing missiles...its a little strange, don't you think?

Why would you think NK would ever honor their claims to denuclearize and continue talking? Because Trump told you so? Trump's still a political infant, a background in business is not the same as leading foreign affairs. If he were to listen to the people around him a little bit more, its possible dems and the media would give him a little more credit. A little bit.

*Honestly

0 ( +1 / -1 )

How? Sanctions remain in place, the removal of which is a stated primary objective for NK.

Honestly, don't liberals have anything better to do than sneer?

Cancelling war games and bestowing credibility.

Hobestly, dont conservatives ever acknowledge reality?

No more war please, already the world suffering...

It's quite funny how until recently Trump cultists were proudly saying there were no more missiles flying and holding it up as proof of his diplomatic triumphs. I imagine they'll be feeling a bit silly reading this article.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

looks interesting, North Korea fired short-range missiles but USA heading to Iran. Because USA suspect!!!

Need to recall USA use same suspect theory to attack Iraq later found false info.

Every one can see the result of any war.

"These missiles, whatever they were, whatever you want to call them, they were very small. And not aimed at Japan, not aimed at Guam, they were aimed up the North Korean coast. So it was a very non-provocative provocation, if there is such a thing."

Agree, this is just Kim's way of staying relevant. Still wants to be seen as a 'credible threat' in the region.

The Justice Department said the 17,061-ton "Wise Honest," one of North Korea's largest cargo ships, was first detained by Indonesia in April 2018.

The not so aptly named 'Wise honest'.

"They gave us an offer - you know, a take-it-or-leave-it offer - five different times. And we couldn't take it, so we had to leave."

A quote that could have come from either side. It was my impression that it was Kim who left the talks, not Trump.

Look what happened to other leaders who had no nuclear weapons - Saddam Hussein, Ghaddafi. Kim would be a fool to give up his weapons on the 'promise' of the removal of sanctions by Trump, with his demonstrated propensity to renege on deals already made, cf the Iran Nuclear Deal, the Paris Agreement, the Russia Nuclear Forces Treaty, the South Korean Trade Treaty, NAFTA..... He has no credibility.

"The relationship continues. ... I know they want to negotiate, they're talking about negotiating. But I don't think they're ready to negotiate," Trump told reporters.

Washington has given no sign of willingness to budge on sanctions

Sounds like the US is equally not ready to negotiate.

Negotiation means giving a little, taking a little until a position is reached on which both sides can agree: not unilaterally setting out demands, laying down the law and throttling the other party until they either submit or implode.

@Goodlucktoyou

Add piracy to the list of USA war crimes

Wait, what?

Who is at war? And where did you read that piracy is a war crime?

time for a vacation to MarLargo for a game of golf and chocolate cake to drown the sorrows. maybe start playing some 3D chess since that 4D chess doesnt seem to be working

No POTUS other than Trump boasted that hes fix the NK problem and fix it quickly, 3yrs later were still in the same situation. Even asked Abe to put a recomendation in for a Nobel becasue he thought he deserved it for all the efforts he put into NK. The Trumpsters actually thought Trump would do it, Kim is playing Trump like a fiddle.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

You guys prefer war?

No. It's not the only alternative to appeasement and capitulation. Why can't conservatives understand that the world ain't binary?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Be it Iran or N. Korea, it's really worrying that this president (in particular) would like nothing more than to start a war just to get himself re-elected as a wartime president. 2020's just around the corner, so be prepared for something crazy.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

@sergenno The only thing the Trump haters can do is criticize him instead of criticizing Kim, who is the one who should be criticized here

In my opinion Kim is one of the globe's nastiest dictators, of whom Trump's said

'he speaks and his people sit up for attention – I want my people to do the same’.

Trump's said he 'loves' Kim.

Trump backers who criticize Kim, who definitely should be criticized, are contradicting their diktator wannabe.

Trump has dictator envy. Kim's outplaying Trump; Trump's getting played. Which is to be expected when he's dealing in events way above his ability. And interest.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Whew. At least Trump didn't give any new concessions.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

I'm neutral on Trump most of the times, so I just sit back and laugh at how the anti-Trump brigade almost always hilariously segue onto Trump from almost any topic, eg draught, missiles, cargo ships, 30s something dictator....ROTFLMAO

@Wallace Fred

This can all end once and for all once the war criminal regime ...

Institutionalised racism ...

The military industrial complex ...

Fred, I’ve been wondering what would come out of the exit of the Stalinist era black hole. Now I know.

If anyone is uncertain about what appeasement and capitulation to a barbaric, thirty-something dictator looks like, it's what Donny is doing with Kim.

I think you need to look up the definitions of appeasement and capitulation, Chip, they sure don't apply here.

Trumpophiles have no leg upon which to stand and criticize Obama.*

Too bad Obama couldn't take care of this problem during his eight years ( yeah and Bush before him )

Congratulations Trump! Wow. Your "we love each other" strategy is really working!

Amazing how there's no criticism of Kim here, just Trump.

The only defense Trump supporters can provide is something something about previous presidents, and/or something something just wait and see.

The only thing the Trump haters can do is criticize him instead of criticizing Kim, who is the one who should be criticized here. Sheesh.

This can all end once and for all once the war criminal regime thats actually used nuclear weapons on another country signs an end to the war. But every sane person knows that won't happen. Why?

The South Koreans never used nuclear weapons on anyone.

Institutionalised racism coupled with a false sense of greatness that requires each and every nation to be subservient.

If it's a false sense of greatness, why is the US the most powerful country and why are most other nations subservient?

Other reason is pure greed. The military industrial complex has a wide net across the globe that is a huge cash cow. Once the east asian boogeyman is gone, that cow's gone too.

There is more than one East Asian boogeyman. Plenty in the midcle east as well. Didn't think that one through, did you.

The hypocrisy from some on here that continue to ignore these very obvious facts is mind numbingly disgusting to say the least.

The ignorance from people that don't see the world as a hole is hilarious, to say the least.

Well done. I wonder what they found on the ship. It's a big baby, it seems. Love it!

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Fred, you are hilarious!

And yet, you absolutely can not dispute my points. The ball's literally in the war criminal regime's hands. Propaganda though coupled with an inability to study past events enables the perpetuation.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Scuttle the ship and cargo. Build a reef with it.

Do that with every ship caught in violation.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Just reread the article and found some further detail four paragraphs from the end.

Apologies for the rant!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Seizing a ship is maybe a first and possibly a huge slap to DPRK, but there is absolutely no detail on the most newsworthy part of the article.

Lets see. War has never officially ended. So what does any sane nation do? Prepare for an invasion. This is how it's been. Always.

They aren't even trying, just down voting. Too funny.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

Trump's way out of his element on both international and domestic issues, which is what anyone with even the slightest bit of reasoning power expected from an inept and corrupt real estate developer, especially one who's shown an unwillingness and inability to learn anything new.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

What has Trump done with NK?

Appeased and capitulated.

0 ( +8 / -8 )

What has Trump done with NK? And he was getting someone to draft his Peace prize acceptance speech.

Washington blamed the shortages on the North Korean government and said it could meet its people's needs if it redirected funds from its weapons programs.

Food shortages are the result of extremely dry weather in North Korea not middle testing.

Why are sanctions being imposed and North Korean trade impacted when the US has the biggest military in the world? The US has also tested and deployed nuclear weapons as I recall.

Slightly hypocritical?

19 ( +22 / -3 )

Now that Don has bent over and grabbed his ankles repeatedly for Kim, Trumpophiles have no leg upon which to stand and criticize Obama.
