Good.
Chip Star
Donny is the architect of this deal, so you should be saying the Afghanis defeated Donny.
Oh, the Taliban are not made up solely of Afghanis. Let’s have a slight amount of accuracy before 7:30, shall we.

I'm glad we're getting out of Afghanistan. Too bad Obama couldn't get this done during his eight years. Or the guy who got us into Afghanistan, Bush Jr.
CrazyJoe
So, after 19 years of fighting the Taliban, we are giving Afghanistan back to the Taliban.
Remember when Republicans said "Never negotiate with terrorists!"?

You are deflecting. The world doesn't revolve around Donald Trump - the US has been in Afghanistan for 20 years with multiple presidents.
I feel very sad for the women of Afghanistan who were hoping for a better life, and will see their hopes and souls crushed again. Yet, on the other hand, the US can't just have a standing army in every corner of the world. It's a sad situation all around, but it's not the responsibility of the US to provide security for Afghanistan forever.
Perhaps someone here can offer a solution?

Not really, because Trump is bringing the troops back home, another promise made and kept, that’s a huge win. That IS the ultimate winning goal.
Bush did and then later Obama moved the bulk of our forces to Afghanistan.
Chip Star
Then why send them in the first place?
Exactly, Bush did. Obama is irrelevant to this conversation. Why can’t conservatives ever stay on topic?
I wasn’t arguing whether we are. Thanks for the irrelevant input.
You are saying we are not socialist on a thread about the socially funded military getting out of Afghanistan. Wow.
I agree it’s worth every dollar getting our people home, but we weren’t discussing that; we were talking about the total cost. Please do try to keep up.

Isn't this exactly the sort of thinking that got us stuck in this war for so long? The reality is that most Afghan women were/are perfectly content to wear a burka and stay at home having children and cooking chapatis. Why did you assume Afghans would find your foreign lifestyle attractive? They are just as repulsed by your values and way of life as you are by theirs.

It was a mistake, but at least we got Saddam and no one misses the butcher of Baghdad.
No, because Obama decided to relocate our forces and remain there, his decision, so yeah, it’s very relevant.
Why liberals have to deflect?
A country without a military is different than the Federal government feeding and taking care of a nation and all of its social needs from cradle to grave.
That ’is” the issue, exactly!

Well done President Trump and staff for carrying through with his promise to "extract the U.S. from endless wars."
While it will be tough for the warring Afghani clans to live peacefully together, it's their country and thier responsibility. Hopefully they will succeed.
Trump's anti war policies will save lives. Thank God.

I completely agree, great move.

The Afghan war had nothing to do with girls education. Pashtun culture never educated girls past puberty. Only the rich, liberal elite in Kabul bothered with girls schooling. During the Russian occupation and socialist experiment, education for girls reached its peak. The US wasn’t so keen on that then.
The Taliban have emerged victorious, an embarrassing step down for the US. Sadly I have to agree with Donald Trump. No victory was ever possible. Get out asap.

Another promise kept.
krustytheclown
Good. It was a waste of resources and lives (on both sides).

I sure as hell wouldn't want to be a non-Muslim or a woman there when the troops leave.
nandakandamanda
Potentially a good move. Still a bunch of promises. The devil is in the detail.
nandakandamanda
I'll believe it when I see it.

Thank you President Trump for ending the nonsense over there.

I don't have to go anywhere near Afghanistan so all chooch for me, cheechers should just accept a whole lot of money is going to go to better use in the coming years and moderate the negativity.
Numan
Yep. and Trump wants to distract because the economy and stockmarket is tanking due to the coronavirus.
Ending the war that people have mostly forgot about won't matter if the financial sector gets worse!
Strangerland
Good on Trump for getting the US out of this mess.
Interesting that the TV show Homeland is coincidentally telling a story of truce with the Taliban.
Numan
Coincidence or just more proof that the current president who doesn't read gets his ideas simply from watching TV shows!

No, he’s just trying to fulfill his campaign promise and I’m glad he is. I don’t think he has to worry about the market that much, because no one can blame him for this crisis because it didn’t happen in this country, I don’t know who thought of that one but that’s kind of out there no one is going to blame her for the economy, yes, the Democrats will try to, but like with everything else it just won’t stick
It could actually help him in the long run...
