Can the wife / wives of a notorious terrorist be considered "innocent civilians"? How about other adult members of their household? Innocent? Really? I would say only the children are innocent. Any adult living with a terrorist is a legitimate target if you ask me. And if that terrorist was an honorable man he would have made sure his family was somewhere safe a long way from the fighting and not have brought them into danger like that. But oh, its always the US fault when terrorists do stupid things.

It breaks my heart to hear how loving, caring & merciful the US special forces are. I believe they attend Sunday mass before any killing spree they are assigned to.

Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi didn't have to blow himself and his family up. US forces would have been overjoyed to take him and the other man alive sparing their families much grief. Or would you prefer the US and other nations just let these animals go unchecked? Do you remember the hell they inflicted on Mosul, Kirkuk and the Yazidis? Or the 100 or so innocent people they killed waiting outside Kabul Airport? Nice people.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

People too easily forget. ISIS is not your friend.

The leader responsible for killing and terrorizing so many people blew himself up along with women and children in his care. Cowards to the end.

And they condemn Trump for being the worst. Did he caused any war and manslaughter during his reign? Democrats are hypocrite!

This sounds like saying Wild dogs are more gentle, more peaceful than Hyenas.

The US also rescued eight other children during the raid.

Here is a more detailed description of the raid. Note that two Daesh leaders were killed and took their families with them. The US also rescued eight other children during the raid.

I find it difficult to believe that there are still people who either truly don't know or simply deny that IS is a pure American production, starting from Usama Ben Laden Al-Qaeda, created, trained, financed & armed by US to fight the Soviet troops in Afghanistan & ending with IS in Syria & Iraq & including "The Fall of Mosul" operation, engineered, armed & ordered by the American administration.

Nope. You are wrong. IS grew out of the discrimination, neglect and outright violence inflicted on Sunnis in Iraq and Syria by those nations Shiite leadership. The predecessor to AQ grew out of US funded rebels who fought the Soviets in Afghanistan, that is true. But Daesh, IS or whatever you want to call it has its roots in Shiite discrimination and violence against minority Sunnis in Syria and Iraq.

Not mentioned in the J-T article nor by the gentle "citizen journalist" on location in Syria is that the object of the raid, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, detonated a suicide vest killing himself and his family. US forces did not kill them. In fact the US chose to use a much riskier ground operation rather than a drone strike in order to prevent to the degree possible unnecessary deaths of innocent people. Other media sources are reporting this fact.

https://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2022/02/03/Special-Forces-mission-syria/3531643873378/

What is interesting is that this Daesh leader Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was living in an area controlled by Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). HTS is a Sunni rebel group largely organized and funded by Turkey. They claim to be the sworn enemy of Daesh, yet here was one of their leaders living apparently openly inside a region controlled by a Turkish armed and funded rebel group that obtw also happens to be a sworn enemy of the Kurds. Turkey is knee deep in Daesh and is playing a double game in Syria pretending to fight Daesh when in fact they are using Daesh and others to attack the Kurds. They also send them to places like Libya and Azerbaijan where they serve as a mercenary force for the Turks.

It is ok, as long as it is USA doing the killing of civilians.

“There were no U.S. casualties."

It's the only thing that matters to these world pirates..

The rest of the world can be destroyed..

Because it's the USA USA USA!!! And we don't care about anyone but USA!!! Russians can go to hell, USA

USA is always right no matter what it does!!!!! USA!!!!

Isn't that in the lyrics of the USA anthem???..

Let's put music to this beautiful lyrics..

It would be too appropriate as USA anthem..

America doing what it does best - killing people around the world. Place your hand on your hearts America, for today your country has glorifyingly exercised its fundamental Americanism upon the people of the world. The people of the world should be on their knees in fear at your strength, oh Mighty America.

The United States acted in support of Kurdish forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces against the IS, a terrorist organization recognized as an enemy of everyone.

The right wing celebrated when Al Baghdadi was killed

Not just the right, a lot of people on the planet was happy that he was killed and with good reason.

along with two children!!!

No one celebrated their deaths, but sadly, it happens during a war or military conflict.

Thry suddenly have compassion for women and children now!!!!

Not just then, but when you deal with terrorists they often hide among civilians with the hope that their enemies won't take them out while they're mingled in, which doesn't always work. OBL found that out.

Quote from Sky News.

“The leader of Islamic State has been killed during a raid by US special forces in Syria.

Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi exploded a bomb that killed himself and members of his family as the raid began on a house in the rebel-held province of Idlib.”

https://news.sky.com/story/us-troops-kill-is-leader-abu-ibrahim-al-hashimi-al-qurayshi-in-syria-raid-12531902

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Reading Arab news sources gives a different slant on this. Among the body pieces neighbors reported seeing a woman with an exploded suicide belt.

The guy they took out is now being reported as the ‘new’ IS No.1, the successor to Baghdadi. Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

That’s a joke, and not even one to laugh about. While they make such a media ado about a ‘successful’ raid and kill a few guys and civilians in no man’s land or Syrian desert , whatever, the real ones are still happily attracted, imported and invited in legions, of course additionally to those already living in every western country.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Ok now you can understand why some countries are scrambling to develop their military/missiles, etc.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

What part of this article most of you didn't understand? There is always two sides to a story the good and the bad. For example The good!!!! Residents and activists in the area described witnessing a large ground assault, with U.S. forces using loudspeakers asking women and children to leave the area. THE BAD ISIS has been known to use innocent women and children as human shields. Use your brains don't based your thoughts on what you read and believe what you were told.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

I don't understand. Why would the western MSM care about the murder of innocent civilians in Syria when it can make blatant lies about Xinjiang and Ukraine?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

That the US invaded Syria and slaughtered civilians in their attempts to ensure that their pet terrorists weren't recruited by their once pet, now feral, terrorists, doesn't make this an antiterrorist act, it makes it an invasion in support of terrorists with horrendous consequences for innocent Syrians who just want the Americans to go away, just like practically all their neighbors (Palestinians, Lebanese, Iranians) do.

Which, if you believe Blinken, means that all those guys running around in American uniforms, slaughtering civilians with American weapons, are actually Russians (or maybe that's another example of America projecting its behavior onto others, and then punishing them)

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It was deemed a success because no Americans were killed. Women and children died, probably innocent civilians too. More terror from the greatest war mongers the world has seen.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

The right wing celebrated when Al Baghdadi was killed along with two children!!!

Thry suddenly have compassion for women and children now!!!!

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Until it wasnt and we found an entire family was killed, including children- for nothing.

So who was fired or punished for that, by the way? oh, no one?

The right wing cares for women and children overseas but when they are from an American minority decides they are criminals!!!

Shameful!!!

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

NATO created  (IS), the U.S. created  al-Qaida , and now they don't want them around.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

And what evidence is provided that these women and children were actually killed? A common tactic of this terrorist group to claim those killed were not their fighters but civilians as they know the media will start frothing. Also what proof these were killed by US forces action rather than the more wild and indiscriminate fire of the terrorists?

A lot of knee jerk assumptions and bias on display in the posts above.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

On what grounds does the US launch military operations on a sovereign country's land?

4 ( +9 / -5 )

More than three months after a botched drone attack in Afghanistan killed 10 civilians — seven of them children — the Defense Department announced this week that Americans involved in the mission will not face punishment.

Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby called the event a "breakdown in process" and not the result of negligence, angering many of the ground in Kabul.

Who is John Kirby? the guy who lied to us last time and then helped cover it up. You can even kill women and children and blame it on a procedural error, as long as you have the media in your pocket.

4 ( +10 / -6 )

That counterterrorism action sure sounds a lot like a terrorism action.

There was a time when any civilians deaths would have been absolutely unacceptable, now it’s still considered a success?

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Residents and activists in the area described witnessing a large ground assault, with U.S. forces using loudspeakers asking women and children to leave the area.

What about those who identify as non-binary?

But this is what the Xinjiang region would become if the Chinese weren't strict there. I would be another Afghanistan or Pakistan. What is needed is some sense in realizing that sanctions against religious beliefs do not correspond to a genocide.

And China has probably killed less Muslims than the Anglosphere.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

remember, what we were told about the last time something like this happened.

Totally just terrorists, coming to bomb something so we had to do it immediately.

A "righteous strike".

Until it wasnt and we found an entire family was killed, including children- for nothing.

So who was fired or punished for that, by the way? oh, no one?

1 ( +9 / -8 )

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an opposition war monitor,

No, it is the mouthpiece of an anti Assad Syrian expat living in a semi detached house in Coventry, England. He just re-posts often fabricated reports on his website and yet many mainstream news sites ( also anti Assad) quote him. Fake news even Trump would be proud of.

4 ( +8 / -4 )

If the above are both true, US rightists and others supporting the global fossil establishment should be pleased.

We don’t know all the details, so it’s too early to be celebrating anything.

I am not happy to see anyone killed and a politically tense area made even more tense, especially if the killing was for greater control of oil and gas and their shipments.

No one does, but if Special Ops were involved there must have been a very serious and good reason for it. But as for fossil fuel it doesn’t matter whatever the fuel source is that drives the world now or in the future it will always be used in some form or fashion by certain radical groups to extort, disrupt or used to profit off others.

And I want the world to stop burning oil and gas in such huge quantities and to stop wars for oil, or any other resource, or for any other reason.

We all want that, but that’s not going to happen, even for the nations that push to stop it, at least not for the foreseeable future.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

This was a single raid on a house that was over in hours against terrorists who are feared and hated almost universally.

So this type of raid is only right depending on the political party of the POTUS you align with?

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Idlib is home to several top al-Qaida operatives and other militant groups.

hey are busy stealing the oil.

If the above are both true, US rightists and others supporting the global fossil establishment should be pleased.

@OssanAmerica

I must admit, I was intellectually incapable of differentiating between the American "anti-terrorist action" in Afghanistan from a foreign invasion (until they were driven out, of course).

-1 ( +10 / -11 )

@JeffLee

Actually the Americans are occupying a large swathe of Syrian territory where they are busy stealing the oil. They would have probably occupied the entire country by now if it was not for the Russians putting a stop to them.

-2 ( +10 / -12 )

This is the standard of success?

in what the Pentagon said was a “successful mission.” Residents and activists reported multiple deaths — including civilians — from the attack.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

Why should Russia respect Ukraine's border if you don't respect Syria's?

This was a single raid on a house that was over in hours against terrorists who are feared and hated almost universally. Russia's threat is the invasion and occupation of an entire country. Your attempted equivalency indicates profound lack of understanding.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

The United States acted in support of Kurdish forces and the Syrian Democratic Forces against the IS, a terrorist organization recognized as an enemy of everyone. Except obviously the posters on JT who are intellectually incapable of differentiating an anti-terrorist action from a foreign invasion.

RichardPearce

Yes, the JT headline would scream ACT OF WAR, CIVILIANS SLAUGHTERED.

Not defending JT: at least almost all comments are welcome on their pages. Try to write anything not inline with British politics on Daily Mail for example.

Respect to your comment though.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

“successful mission.” Residents and activists reported multiple deaths — including civilians — from the attack.

Multiple civilian deaths. Mission accomplished. The dichotomy endures. Either non-de-script globalist murder or autocratic putsch.

Now, imagine if Russia did this into Ukraine.

Yes, the JT headline would scream ACT OF WAR, CIVILIANS SLAUGHTERED.

But, of course, the American military is the Supercollider of our real life Hench, and the Auditor is relegated to these comment sections, when her posts aren't 'removed'.

But the civilian blood that the American fighters spill definitely is red, sticky, and worth more than the casual dismissal JT has, again, given it.

Btw, this is sovereign Syrian territory as recognized by the United Nations.

Why should Russia respect Ukraine's border if you don't respect Syria's?

The Imperium's hypocrisy at its finest.

-6 ( +10 / -16 )

The military operation got attention on social media,

Could that have been the intention of the mission from the start?

Perish the thought!

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Still this biggest enemy humanity has ever seen in its history loves to talk about democracy, freedom & human rights & loves to accuse whoever doesn't live by his rules of being an aggressor & pauses threat to world peace.
