That will save some Money.

Leaving 30-50000 behind? That is not pulling out.

Coming on the heels of the dead boys a couple days ago, it's not quite fast enough. Mind you, they now have the utter disaster of Iraq to keep in mind -- pulling out suddenly would further endanger all the Iraqis who have been put in harms way thanks to the war (which is to say, ALL of them).

Things are admittedly a little better than they were a year or so ago, but that's not saying a lot about hundreds of thousands of innocents dead, and when violence is on the rise again. Obama has been left yet another tough situation from the train wreck of his predecessor.

"A residual force". So Obama was lying about packing up and leaving. The right wing nut jobs get what thgey wanted , a continude US presence , who are really in control of the country.

A residual force will have very little to do with Iraq, it will be there to keep an eye on Iran and quick support for Afghanistan. Especially necessary since Kyrgyzstan closed its doors to the US.

America still has bases in Europe and Japan, it's all about regional power and security.

Bring the troops home.

Republicans would be planning what they need to continue suppling 130,000 troops for another 10 - 20 years.

Start pulling them out yesterday. < :-)

Leaving 30-50000 behind? That is not pulling out.

Agreed. We got lied to.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

likeitis - are you unhappy because your government isn't spending more on foreigners like the previous administration did? :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama didn't lie about this. He said that he'd get them out in 16 months if it was feasable. He said he'd talk to the generals on the ground and do it as soon as possible.

John McCain wasn't going to plan on bringing them home. < :-)

"That will save some money"

Get serious - with President Obama and the Democrats in charge of spending? They'll won't save it, they'll just spend it on some boondoggle. I can't stand it...

"Johm McCain wasn't going to plan on bringing them home"

Sure, just make up stuff and post it, daydream. Sheesh..

Obama predicted the surge would fail. In fact, he said it would make things worse in Iraq.

His choice for secretary of state called General Petraeus a liar, to his face and before the entire nation.

Obama shafted retired general Zinni after promising to make him the new ambassador to Iraq. Didn't even have the decency to inform the man that he had given the job to someone else.

The Iraqi bourse hit a new high this month, markets elsewhere are trending in the opposite direction...

Good to see some of our boys will be coming home. Too bad many of them will not have a job to come home to. Bravo Zulu to all of them!

The US should just pull out of Bagdad and move it's troops near the border with Iran, this is what would keep the Iranians out of Iraq and help our Arab allies feel a bit more secure, and let our same Arab allies start patroling Iraq, they speak Arabic, they understand the local culture better than we do, and our troops are just sitting ducks for any angry local (Arab, Muslim etc..)

Sarge "Johm McCain wasn't going to plan on bringing them home" Sure, just make up stuff and post it, daydream. Sheesh..

Making up stuff? John McCain said he was willing to stay 100 years. He wasn't even considering coming out of Iraq for years. < :-)

Get serious - with President Obama and the Democrats in charge of spending? They'll won't save it, they'll just spend it on some boondoggle.

As opposed to the conspicuous savings made by the previous administration. What was it, a few billion per month spent blowing stuff up overseas? Yep - that's the way to save.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wottock - I'm not claiming that the previous administration was the perfect example of frugal spending, but at the rate President Obama and the Democrats are spending now, they're going to make the previous administration look frugal.

Sarge

they're going to make the previous administration look frugal.

That's going to be pretty tough. I don't see any upcoming bill that will give the 1% of the population $4Trillion. And instead of this money going to individuals to pad their bank accounts, it's going to the nation in spending to stop the recession that george bush cultivated. < :-)

OK, back on topic:

"U.S. to be out of Iraq in 19 months"

Well, that's only 3 months longer than the president promised, so I think we should cut him some slack.

When the last U.S. combat troops pull out of a free Iraq, I hope the president acknowledges that the credit goes mainly to his predecessor for making the unpopular decision that he made, and, of course, the outstanding performance of our brave troops, many who made the ultimate sacrifice.

I agree with - of course, the outstanding performance of our brave troops, many who made the ultimate sacrifice. 100%.

I hope the president acknowledges that the credit goes mainly to his predecessor for making the unpopular decision that he made

Sarge his decision to start a war on lies? I don't think so.

Your continued support of george bush after his two terms as a very poor president is admirable. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

His decision to finish the unfinished Gulf War, which will hand President Obama victory with honor.

Sarge, you're getting funnier by the hour.

The sooner your nation pulls out of Iraq, the sooner your government will free up money that it can spend on Americans.

Or are you still forcefully wanting a government that spends your tax dollars on foreigners, like the previous government did? :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sushi, you're still denying facts.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

likeitis - are you unhappy because your government isn't spending more on foreigners like the previous administration did? :-)

I am unhappy because that sounds like more than a "token" force. I would like the government to cut military spending far more massively. Spending on foreigners for peaceful pursuits I don't mind as much.

this is what would keep the Iranians out of Iraq

What made you think they needed to be kept out of Iraq? Its the Americans that need to be kept out of Iraq! They been there for six years! I can't say I have heard Iran make noises about invading Iraq in decades. So from where does such worry stem from?
