Any one that is racist should be thought the joys and wonders of knowing and or being with some one else from another culture/color. Racist people are the lowest of the low! they make me sick to my brain!!

The name of the meeting is a bit off considering that this doesn't appear to be a meeting on racism but instead a meeting for the mutual damnation of Israel. In addition there's the:

troubling elements that suggest support for restrictions on free speech and an affirmation of the findings of the first World Conference Against Racism, held in Durban, South Africa, in 2001 that the U.S cannot endorse.

The last meeting was a political minfield of touchy wording and I doubt the next meeting will be any different. If this were actually against racism and social discrimination I my have a different opinion on the matter but as it is I can think of no reason validate U.S presense there.

There is a reason why it is called the 'UN Conference on Racism'; it is where the UN expresses the racist ideology of the overwhelming majority of it's members. Why Obama "regrets" not attendning is astonding!

The UN, lecturing about racism? Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

"We are not attending in part because we believe you are restricting free speech... and because you are speaking freely about Israel, which we wanted to restrict."

"We are not attending in part because we believe you are restricting free speech... and because you are speaking freely about Israel, which we wanted to restrict."

So if a country doesn't attend, this is their position?

Just goes to show everyone, including the African American groups, that Obama is nobody's boy!

Unfortunately, this further discredits the US. Consistently the US will not go near this conference because the embarrassing problem of Israel's apartheid state is going to come up. It would put the US in the position of defending it when it is in fact indefensible.

The more I watch Obama the more I see him as the American Gorbachov. He is for openness and extending his hand everywhere but there are fundamental rotten things in his system he will not touch, one of them being the so-called special relationship with Israel, which has helped turn that place into a monster.

The Obama administration will “with regret” boycott a U.N. conference on racism

This conference isn't about racism. It's about Israel bashing. And ironically the bashing is done by the most racist and intolerant nations on earth, such as the Arab league. My only criticism of Obama here is the unnecessary "with regret" in the statement.

SuperLib: "So if a country doesn't attend, this is their position?"

It is if that's their position, yes, but not attending does not make that their position, no.

"...boycott a U.N. conference on racism next week over objectionable language in the meeting’s final document that could single out Israel for criticism and restrict free speech..."

Read the article. That's only the first line, and it goes into more detail later. Glad I could answer your question and help you out.

I did read the article. But you seem to be saying that people won't go to the meeting because they don't want free speech regarding Israel. That's all one could really gather from your one sentence.

Being against racism is a noble cause, but a misleading description of this UN conference, which has long been hijacked by muslim countries as a platform to lambast Israel, by defining zionism (e.g. Israels existance) as "racism".

Likewise for the "defamation of religion" clause. Again, this sounds noble, but the only religion which demands this privilege is islam. The muslim countries want to ban any form of cricitism of islam as "defamation", while turning a blind eye to the treatment of non-muslims in muslim countries.

Kudos for Obama administration for staying away from this, although one has to wonder how long this resolve will last, considering the people who are advising the one (Samantha Powers, Freeman, Rashid Khalidi etc.)

But smithinjapan they do have a point, why is Israel being the only nation singled out when there are dozens of other nations that have racism issues. The issue the US has is that Israel is the only nation mentioned when there should be dozens of other nations that should also be mentioned, if those nations were also mentioned then the US would have no problem with Israel being one of those mentioned. Like helter skelter said, this isn't about racism this is nothing more then a bash Israel conference.

Noliving, spot on.

Check out all the racism in the UK, Germany, France, Australia...

No wonder they like to draw everyone's attention elsewhere.

why end "racism" when people make all this money on it. -Look at how many college professors would lose their cushy do-nothing jobs. "Global warming" is very similiar of an idea -If "Global Warming" ends Al Gore is out of a job and you can only invent the Internet once = No work for Al Gore.

The USA may be a racist country, having killed off most of the native population (American Indians) forcing Black Africans into slavery to support it's cotton industry down in Dixie, but how ironic, that this same country was able to elect it's first African American president, Barack Hussexin Obama. I think we should not let the Israel factor hold back the USA from attending these kinds of meetings. Arabs and Jews are both racist and they will hate eachother for a long, long time, no need to join the "I hate your people because your god is false" crap, because, their is NO GOD, and if God did exist he probably look more like Obama than Bush.

Hook, line, sinker. Mamoohd Ahmedinejad, Sheik Nasrallah, and Ahmed Yassin can be proud of you.

Some of the most racist & bigoted people in the world are the people that are first to accuse the west of racism & they are the same people that are hijacking this conference. Try integrating in any of the Arab countries & see what happens to you. Assuming that you can even see the face of a girl to know if she is pretty or not just try talking to her. These are some the most intolerant people on earth & they believe they have a right to be critical of Israel? If I were to go to Israel & try to seduce a pretty Jewish girl away from her religion some might be unhappy about it, but they would kill me, & her.

Moderator: Readers, please stay on topic.

Looks like the ones that aren't attending are the most racist.

"israel" is deserving of top spot on the list of racist and hating nations. It is an illegal entity on other peoples' land, without defined borders, a non-signatory to the NNPT without any IAEA controls of its 200plus nukes, and IMHO the single greatest threat, more than so-called Al Qaeda, pirates or even global warming, to humanity's survival. Eliminate this worm, and we'll all breathe a lot easier. “Not supporting the State of ‘Israel’ does not make one, in any way, less of a friend of the Jewish people and most certainly does not label one an anti-Semite.” Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss, a spokesman for Neturei Karta International, Jews United Against Zionism. Like the good rabbi, I am not anti-semitic, just anti Zio-Fascist, and as "israel" is illegal, I'm anti illegal nations.

Canada, the US, and Israel were the first to go out. Looks like Australia and Holland are now out. I'm kind of curious now to see what kind of document the conference will produce.

I always get a kick out of this:

[Israel is] the single greatest threat, more than so-called Al Qaeda, pirates or even global warming, to humanity's survival.

Followed up with:

I am not anti-semitic

I think I get it. You're not anti-semetic, you've just applied logic and reason and come up with the completely objective conclusion that Israel will bring out the end of the human race.

Hehe. Can we get any more obscure? So Libertas, are you getting your info from neo-Nazi websites or Islamofascist websites? Difficult to tell.
