The State Department planned to publicize the rules Thursday, according to two officials with knowledge of the plans who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The rules would make it more difficult for pregnant women to travel on tourist visas. In one draft of the regulations, they would have to clear an additional hurdle before obtaining the visas — convincing a consular officer that they have another legitimate reason to come to the U.S.

.....Birth tourism is a lucrative business in both the U.S. and abroad. American companies take out advertisements and charge up to $80,000 to facilitate the practice, offering hotel rooms and medical care. Many of the women travel from Russia and China to give birth in the U.S. The U.S. has been c racking down on the practice since before Trump took office.

.....There are no figures on how many foreign women travel to the U.S. specifically to give birth. The Center for Immigration Studies, a group that advocates for stricter immigration laws, estimated that in 2012, about 36,000 foreign-born women gave birth in the U.S., then left the country.

The U.S., as well as every other country, has every right to restrict the entry of foreigners into their country.

How about pregnant women who intentionally want to go to the better hospitals in the US compared to their home countries

Sounds like they'll have to go to a different country that has a better medical system instead of the US.

Nobody wants the mother or the child to die during childbirth

Birth by current location isn't needed anymore in the Americas like it was previously and should be removed from US laws if either parent isn't a legal permanent resident.

Removing this incentive for illegal immigration would go a long way towards reducing illegal immigrants trying to have anchor babies.

The other required step is to ensure anyone without a work visa cannot work in the USA. That would drop illegal immigration to zero. No illegal work. No illegal immigrants.

And the US gets control over the illegal immigrant problem.

I actually get this one. With our current world system, I don't see why people should get citizenship simply due to location of birth, particularly as this can be used to breed a generation of citizens who may have zero loyalty to the land of their citizenship, if they never end up spending time living there, and are raised by parents also not from there.
