If you have too train Ukraine soldiers, maybe they should not be Soldiers, until they are fit,the US do not send service dog in the field ,unless they are properly trained to operate in the theater of battle

Why in the hell is an unelected NATO official dictating policy, you can divide a city into 80 GPS grid of one miles, and choose your target in these grids and dictate the target you consider, and along the 16 billion dollars, Ukrainain need by the end of the year

My tax money working for Ukraine. Well, I do what I can.

At some point the Russians and whoever is the "leader" of Ukraine will sit down and sign an agreement giving control of the Dombas, Crimea and the south to Russia. US/NATO aid will at best postpone this date leading to more death and destruction on both sides, but mainly on the Ukraine side.

Six months after Russia invaded, the war has slowed to a grind, as both sides trade combat strikes and small advances in the east and south.

Not exactly, the war has become a predictable slow grind of Russian bombardment followed by a slow deliberate taking of territory.

The US/NATO need to stop their proxy war, a war they cannot win. They overplayed their hand, the sanctions are hurting Europe more than Russia.

-5 ( +16 / -21 )

Mr. K,

Zelenski is in charge of Ukraine. Your “whoever is in charge” smear should be directed at mini-me Vlad as his position would seem less stable at the moment.

How nice of you to suggest that Ukraine give up its sovereign territory in exchange for the privilege of not being bombed by the Russians who are the aggressors here.

I have an alternate proposal: The Russians leave Ukrainian territory and in exchange the Ukrainian army stops killing them. Sounds like a fair trade to me.

And Rodney with the tired tired lies of neo-nazism. Think of something better, man. You are embarrassing yourself. This is one of many Russian lies about why the population overthrew a Russian stooge in 2014. All of them lies.

Ukraine wins by not losing. So far, they’re winning. Ukraine, the Western democracies and I are all betting the Ukraine’s will to fight and the West’s material resources are greater than those of mini-me and his fascist rabble in Moscow.

4 ( +16 / -12 )

American weapons taking out Russians. Keep it going!!!

-1 ( +14 / -15 )

No worries Russians you have allies, Uganda, North Korea, Syria. More than enough to overwhelm Europe and the U.S.A., And you have amazingly reliable weapons systems and let’s not forget tactics? How are those battalions of ex convict’s faring? Just have to flatten those threatening hospitals and apartment buildings. Victory!

5 ( +16 / -11 )

The United States stands in solidarity with the proud Ukrainian people. Slava Ukraine!

-1 ( +11 / -12 )

You people support a country ,that getting taking back into the stone age, Ukrainain are not stopping anything, Russia is pounded Ukraine city everyday,if they concentrated on Kiev like Mariupol,Kiev would be like Mariupol,I am not advocating this, but Russian have not taking this strategy route, they are a concentration of Russia assets in Belarus, maybe getting ready to strike Kiev again

-8 ( +5 / -13 )

Three billion dollars well invested.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

You people support a country ,that getting taking back into the stone age

You people support a country that taking Ukraine back to stone age. Pathetic.

Russia is pounded Ukraine city everyday,if they concentrated on Kiev like Mariupol

Oh Russia has been getting pounded pretty hard lately, and it's just going to keep happening until the fascist invaders go back home to Russia.

Belarus, maybe getting ready to strike Kiev again

Go for it, it worked out really well for the invaders last time, didn't it?

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

And with ever the USA is doing Japan is now in a far more dangerous situation, oh and please don't give the B. Reply the USA will help protect. We have NK and China both with nukes and both Lovin the idea of flattening Japan.

So get ready for more trouble but more likely get ready for more taxes because the more the USA gives the more it is going to ask ( aka tell) Japan that it needs to "contribute" more on it ls defence and do more for Ukraine, so Japan will pay more for USA troops here, pay more for more weapons for the SDF and pay out more for Ukraine.

-4 ( +9 / -13 )

Oh and Larry,

The fascist dictatorship, er…”government” of Belarus? Not so popular back home. Seems they needed Russian paratroopers to put down their uprising last “election” cycle.

Gosh, if mini-me keeps sending Russian paratroopers everywhere his mini mini-mes are unpopular, pretty soon there wouldn’t be any to invade Ukraine much less defend Mother (refrain from adding an additional word) Russia!

In other words, Belarus mini-me might want to think twice about his position back home before following mini-me down this particular rabbit hole.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Did congress approve or was it an executive only decision?

2 ( +8 / -6 )

Yrral

You people support a country ,that getting taking back into the stone age, Ukrainain are not stopping anything

You may note, that Russia haven't moved the front for a month. But the main reason that people support Ukraine is that Putin is a bully, and if he he isn't stopped, he will take more.

Russia is pounded Ukraine city everyday,if they concentrated on Kiev like Mariupol,Kiev would be like Mariupol

Russia simply do not have the capability to do this, which should be obvious. They can send cruise missiles and rockets, but they can't get artillery close enough to effect an attack on Kyiv.

they are a concentration of Russia assets in Belarus, maybe getting ready to strike Kiev again

Nope. Not a chance.

I am all for supporting any freedom fighter around the world regardless, BUT when I see tens of thousands of Americans sleeping on the streets sick and hungry while BILLIONS are being send to an endless war zone it makes me think what these billions could do to improve the lives of these desperate and needy citizens.

Strange how Russia and Trump supporters have zero faith in Ukraine winning this battle but they were so sure of the danger of Ukraine that they were "forced" to invade to protect themselves.

Great! Simple solution. Raise taxes. Then you can do both.

AND Russia is running out of “precision” (by Russian standards anyway) munitions.

Yesterday another knowledgeable poster said Russian annual tank production WAS about 30 units a year. Now it’s idled due to a lack of materials.

The Russians are losing that many tanks a MONTH.

The vaunted SU-57 has between 3 and 5 production models in addition to about 10 prototypes (1 crashed, 2 burned) in service after its initial introduction in 2015.

By comparison, Lockeed Martin delivered 142 F-35s last year. (For the mathematically challenged) That’s about 3-4 times production every month than the entire Stealth fighter production run of Russia.

The paratrooper who quit Ukraine and gave his story to the Washington Post said he didn’t initially have equipment and when he got his AK, it was from the Afghan war and rusted.

So color me skeptical at the red “army’s ability to keep pace with Western supplies for Ukraine.

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Strange how Russia and Trump supporters have zero faith in Ukraine winning this battle

Did they ever get those MiGs that Zelenskyy wanted?

Great! Simple solution. Raise taxes. Then you can do both.

Yes, and as a result you are getting the Democrats drummed out the House. I mean, it’s just money from someone else. Just get a check and see how many zeros we can tack on.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Great! Simple solution. Raise taxes. Then you can do both.

I have a better idea, why don't you and the rest volunteer to have your taxes raised to include the extra money and let us opt out.

That way you and the rest can fully support Ukraine and those that don't or don't care well we can feed our families.

Only fair, right? It isn't our country or where we live, so if you want to pay be my guest and I can have my tax money fix the pavement on our street the ward had been promising to do now for over a year.

-1 ( +12 / -13 )

AS: That way you and the rest can fully support Ukraine

BOOM go the Javelins!

All Americans will pay for it. But not more than the Russian soldiers.

-2 ( +8 / -10 )

Cheaper to pay for a contract on Putin.

How to invite Russian tanks across your border: Beg for aid, drag Europe in at the expense of its economy and political stability, do a lot of talk shows. Be weak.

How to stop Russian tanks from crossing your border: Make it clear that you would send snipers to Moscow week 1 and keep sending them until they take out Putin and the Russian government. Then you would burn the Kremlin and take out Russian infrastructure - power, comms, net, energy storage. You would bomb dams, tunnels, bridges, railways and airports. You would set the tinder dry land near Russian cities on fire. Final ultimatum: Get off my lawn or Russian nuclear reactors will be bombed to criticality.

If someone attacks your country and your people, you progressively destroy their country until they stop, leaders first.

How many times do you have to remind people that it was Ukraine shelling the Russian speaking Donbas Region for the last 8 years with the loss of more than 14,000 civilian lives.

A lot, because it is not true.

The total loss of civilian lives is 3,404 over the last 8 years. the vast majority of those in 2014 and 2015. And many were killed by Russians, including the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17, that a Russian BUK shot down killing 298 on board.

If you look at the last 6 years, there are 362 civilians have lost their lives, on both sides of this conflict.

So try to get your facts straight, and get things in perspective.

this is not a "present" as one day money have to be paid back...USA does not doing this for some kind of "charity" as any war is good business for them especially if ignited by them in name of their own interests-list of wars ignited by USA after 1945 is endless and this is just last one...

feel sorry about ordinary UA citizens without bright future in any foreseable future and completely worthelss government acting in name of US interests only.

one and only solution id to stop this meaningless violence, take seat have serious talk and make clear both sides opnion, than start fresh clean step by step.sending of guns and media propaganda support will never bring peace to region and more and more people will die.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

Gosh Awa,

I just don’t care for fascist dictatorship invading another country and murdering its citizens on a bs lie.

I’m also not overly fond of people carrying water for said murderer’s lie.

I like democracy, free elections, national sovereignty and people not being raped, shot and left in the street.

What can I say? I’m funny that way.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

What did Putin think would happen? He wanted NATO out of Russia’s backyard and accomplished the opposite. Russia was never a great military power even at the height of the Cold War. What leverage do they have? Nukes and gas. They’re like a bigger version of North Korea.

3 ( +10 / -7 )

Throwing good money down the commode.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

this is not a "present" as one day money have to be paid back.

This is being provided under the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, which is a grant, not a loan.

USA does not doing this for some kind of "charity" as any war is good business for them especially if ignited by them in name of their own interests-list of wars ignited by USA after 1945 is endless and this is just last one...

Funny how every war, even Russian invasions of its neighbors which were obviously initiated by Russia, can be framed as American acts of aggression if all one cares about is pretending Russia had nothing to do with bad stuff Russia does.

feel sorry about ordinary UA citizens without bright future in any foreseable future and completely worthelss government acting in name of US interests only.

And yet you act as a cheerleader for the Russians who are destroying that future for them, and taking Russia’s own future down with it as well.

one and only solution id to stop this meaningless violence

Yeah, Russia staying in Russia, Ukraine staying in Ukraine. Pretty simple really, and something within Russia’s ability to accomplish.

sending of guns and media propaganda support will never bring peace to region and more and more people will die.

Yup, Russia sending guns, bombs, and state media into Ukraine isn’t going to solve this at all, I fully agree.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

Putin invaded and started the war.

Just like in Crimea,  Chechnya, Georgia, and North Caucasus, 15 years of war.

9 ( +13 / -4 )

Antique, the US spend more money and time on training a service dog for military service, than Ukrainain do for human, just give them a gun,if they have one ,and throw them in trench to get bombarded Google US Military Dog Training

There are many shades of grey in this war as in all others and most of us on here would benefit from reading a variety of sources on the background to the Ukraine conflict ( that doesn't mean just reading a slightly different version of the same original story rehashed on different Anglo media sites).

You could say that of any war, but it seems like an excuse to whitewash Putin's imperialism.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

US to send $3 billion in aid to Ukraine as war hits 6 month-mark:

6 months on, the situation in Ukraine seems to be more of a stalemate than physical combat.

Like Oliver Twist in the movie, 'We want more food, more, more', Kiev needs more military & financial aids, more, more..

0 ( +4 / -4 )

There are many shades of grey

Yeah, but this “special military operation” isn’t one of them.

Putin didn’t like Ukraine moving towards the West, as is their right, so he interfered in the election and put his rube in charge.

In 2014 Ukraine citizens decided they’d had enough of this pretender and got rid of him in a mostly peaceful protest even in the face of Russian snipers sent in to shoot protesters.

Mini-me didn’t like that so he started this bs revolt in Donbas which not for nothing, belongs to Ukraine under the fiction that Russian speakers were being oppressed. He also illegally annexed Crimea.

Shame on us in the West, we didn’t hold him to account. We could/should have. Even as a supporter, I am disappointed in Obama for his inaction and it’s a stain on his legacy.

But that wasn’t enough for mini-me. No, he needed to distract from his domestic incompetence so he launched a war of expansion using a series of increasingly laughable lies: genocide, Nazis, NATO aggression - each less plausible than the last.

So no, there isn’t any grey area here. Russia is the aggressor on Ukrainian soil and Ukraine with abundant Western support will continue to resist until the Russians leave.

Not really that hard to grasp OR that extreme an opinion.

In related news: Japan will not pull its investments from Russia and continues cooperation in 2 gas fields per Japan Today.

"U.S. to send $3 billion in aid to Ukraine as war hits 6 month-mark"

It's good to see the FAITH so many here have in the U.S. government and it's inherent right to contribute its people's desperately needed resources to killing for geostrategic advantage of Corporate and to enriching those for whom international debt is their milk and honey. Problems? There are always solutions. Overcrowded, poorly funded schools? No problem, some Americans think too much anyway. Crumbling and archaic infrastructure? Stay off of bridges, sit motionless in traffic and enjoy muzak, filter the organic carcinogens from water as a hobby, enjoy the dark during grid failures, et cetera. Ever more people camping on sidewalks, sides of highways, under bridges? Do 'sweeps', tearing down their tents, trashing their few possessions, and they just 'go away'. Hungry? America has an obesity problem so what could be better? Worried about the mania of desperate frustration, economic and social, killing so many young Americans? Buy a gun, arm your children, make them 'good kids' with guns. Yes, absolutely! More BILLIONS to corrupt regimes if they oppose those who refuse to bend a knee to American dictates, and even MORE BILLIONS to our 'Defense Department' to 'defend' the indefensible. America is an inexhaustible well of printed paper with ever diminishing usefulness as 'currency' but, soon will be much more valuable as T.P. when the well runs dry and the country becomes a massive sinkhole. Yes, such FAITH as we see here will certainly be appropriately rewarded and, like so many well deserved events, will come suddenly and when least expected and absolutely will be SOMEBODY ELSE'S FAULT and never the ones who cheer for insanity as so many here do. And what better use of "AID" that might otherwise be used to better people's lives than to help end their lives instead? No problem...

@wallace

Just like in Crimea, Chechnya, Georgia, and North Caucasus, 15 years of war

Crimea - not a shot fired. Chechnya - an islamist insurgency, Georgia - a small conflict after Georgian army attacked Russia first. North Caucasus - what do you mean? Anyway, compare it to the trail of blood - Serbia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lybya.

Today, August 24 is Ukraine Independence Day. In commemoration of the Declaration of Independence of 1991. This year there will be no parades.

Ukraine struggled against Soviet occupation and once again it was invaded by Russia.

The Russians who live around the Russian Embassy area in Tokyo, are very aggressive individuals - not very likeably people at all. So, with that as an example of what's going on in Ukraine - I wish the Ukrainian people the best and hope that they pull through this terrible time with success.

4 ( +9 / -5 )

@SuperLib

BOOM go the Javelins!

Many Ukrainians have cult-like faith in Western weapons. First it was Bayraktars, than Javelines, than M777, than HIMARS. Germans at the end of WWII also furiously believed in "Wunderwaffe". Didn't worked then, will not work now.

-7 ( +4 / -11 )

The weapons will end up in Syria, Yemen or Ethiopia. Serbia. 123rd most corrupt country in the whole world.

-5 ( +5 / -10 )

Ukraine struggled against Soviet occupation and once again it was invaded by Russia.

Funny how Ukraine passed a law condemning what it called Soviet occupation and saying it was all illegal but then says the transfer of Crimea to the Ukrainian Soviet authorities from the Russian Soviet authority was legal and makes Crimea Ukraine's.

So the parts it didn't like it rejected but what it sees as a benefit it demands to keep.

Indeed, that is the case with almost any war....and nope, no whitewash...just pointing out the need for some balance & need for most of us on here to dig a little deeper

So do we need balance & the need to dig deeper with Hitler and Nazi Germany as well?

3 ( +7 / -4 )

It is the right of any sovereign nation to decide its future. It is the right of Ukraine to decide if it wants to join the EU and NATO.

Putin opposed Ukraine joining NATO but instead, he created the situation of Finland and Sweden joining NATO. Switzerland is thinking of joining.

Putin's game plane is falling apart.

When the Russian Federation was formed after the fall of the Soviet Union there was great hope Russia would join NATO and become part of Europe.

Putin ex KGB is pro-Soviet and wants to turn the clock back.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

So the parts it didn't like it rejected but what it sees as a benefit it demands to keep.

lol No. Let's examine this argument through an analogy.

Person A steals Person B's wallet, and person B is rightfully angry. They demand their wallet is returned by Person A. Reluctantly, Person A agrees and returns their wallet. Would you argue that it's inconsistent that Person B accepts the return of their property from Person A, because Person A never had a right to possess it? This is essential what you're arguing, and no, it doesn't justify Russia invading Ukraine.
