"What a joke"

Yeah, it's a real joke dealing with the Taliban.

Adm. Mike Mullen: "There's no easy solution, and there will be no quick fix"

Exactly, exactly.

No success in seven years is ok but failure is shameful. Time for NATO and American troops to get training from Taliban and then fight on equal footing.

What is the joke are countries that are afraid to send in troops to help. Leaders who are too afraid of a backlash to make hard decisions. There are many more that I could mention. The Taliban were/are a bunch of machine gun wielding drug dealers/terrorists, who terrorised the Afghans.

There's no easy solution, and there will be no quick fix

The easiest, quickest, and best fix would be to send these troops to Washington, and take care of the terrorists there.

We should have stayed in Afghanistan to begin with instead of draining the troops out there and placing them in Iraq.

Afghanistan/Taliban attacked us but george bush turned his back on the original problem and attacked Iraq. Wasting our men, women and assets on a war of choice instead of fighting the real terrorist. < :-)

"We" never should have gone to Afghanistan (and Iraq). Afghanistan/Taliban did not attack us, they have absolutely nothing to do with the 9/11 attack. Most intelligent people have realized that by now.

The US never should have invaded Iraq, however the US needed to invade Afghanistan after the Taliban refused to stop harboring Al Qaida. Though the Iraq War is a complete mess, the US needs to see it and the Afghan War through. I personally reject the claim that George W. Bush deliberately mislead the American public on the Iraq War, I believe he honestly thought he had accurate information from those in charge of providing said information (which is still not really an excuse).

You admit it's still not an excuse, but reject the claim that Bush deliberately misled the US on the need to rush illegally into Iraq. Seems somewhat paradoxical.

javnation: perhaps countries are afraid as you say or perhaps a lack of sober leadership from Washington is more at fault. Bush may be able to bamboozle the American people, but outside America most people could see American foreign policy for what it was and is: a ponzi scheme.

Why would any sane nation commit their blood and treasure on an errand lead by a fool?

At least Canada is pulling their weight in Afghanistan. I reckon Stephen Harper, or whoever is prime mister up there, would do anything Bush asks.

Well Canada went in right after 9-11. But when the full measure of Bush's foolishness became apparent Canada declined to support the invasion of Iraq. I would not assume Canada's support if Bush decides to go on to Iran.

But then again, Canada being what it is may decide standing up may not be its preferred position.

Canada's support in Iraq would have been token. Afghanistan already has Canadian forces stretched to the limit. Besides, Chretien had family ties profiting directly from the large French petroleum concerns taking bribes from Saddam. There was no way a venal scumbag like that would have supported liberation.

Please...... It's one thing when a fact or two becomes skewed, but not a single "FACT" that he and his administration gave out was proven correct. Every single claim has been proved wrong. A few incorrections are one thing, but when everything turns up as bad information, it has to be viewed as what it is. Bold Faced Lies. < :-)

Not only are we sending more troops to Afghanistan, now the Pentagon announces today that 2200 Marines will be kept in Afghanistan at least 30 days (at this time) past their return date. < :-)

RedMeatKoolAid don't forget that America had its own venal scumbags who profited from selling oil to Saddam. Although Chretien may have been involved (first I heard of it), it is safe to say that most of Canada rejected Canada's involvement in the invasion as did most of America's allies. That Bush could alienate many of America's allies (most of whom supported the Afghanistan invasion) is testament to his own venality and poor leadership skills.
