The only reason China is supporting Putin is because China is hopping to profit from this war by being the middle man for all the trade that Russia needs. As soon as there is no money to be made, China will drop Putin like a hot potato. Therefore, sanction China I say!

Yellen also spoke to countries that "are currently sitting on the fence" when it comes to Moscow, "perhaps seeing an opportunity to gain by preserving their relationship with Russia and backfilling the void left by others."

Western and other Asian oligarchs are also complicit with Russian oligarchs in that they use the same financial manipulations outlined in the Panama and Pandora Papers to evade regulaton and taxation of their assets.

Yellen has got this all wrong. They’ll never join the sanctions now not they were going to. It’s like the colleague you dislike, China doesn’t respect the US and won’t just do what the US says to do simply because it is told, warned or threatened.

To treat China like Australia or Japan shows they haven’t don’t their homework.

Yellen will come back in a few months asking China for favors.

Absolutely. Well said!

The Washington clowns are sooo pathetic, they think with their childish tantrums are going to intimidate the great Dragon from the East..

Rarely do you see two authoritarian countries make such a large strategic miscalculation and get things so wrong....

Putin somehow convinced Xi that his invasion would be over in a week, that it would involve few civilian casualties, there would be little economic disruption, and that the West would break apart in its response, and the US shown to be toothless...

That last one was the key for Xi - anything to show Taiwan that the US cannot be counted on, and better to make its rapprochement with the mother country on China's terms...

With the Ukrainians defeating the initial invasion, Russia's hideous war crimes and civilian deaths, the outright military bumbling, the re-energizing of NATO under US leadership and the strangling Russia's economy.....Xi now considers Putin a bigger liar and fool than Trump....

They already have. China has toned down its tough talk and wolf warrior diplomacy. They've seen what damage a United Western Alliance can do both militarily and economically. They are being very quiet now compared to how beligerent they were before the war.

So yeah. The Chinese are in fact intimidated- not by the US alone, but by the western alliance.

It's time for the freedom loving countries, who don't have desires on stealing their neighbors' lands, to split off from those countries that have goals of conquering their neighbors. Let's let go of them, these 2 big bullies, and let them slide backwards into the abyss of failed nations. Why should we finance their violent assaults and invasions of peaceful countries?

Russia and China both want to have their cake and eat it too in the sense that they like the money, wealth, prestige and power that comes from free trade with Western countries, but they still stubbornly hold on to their primitive ideas that invading peaceful neighbors is acceptable, but it's not. They haven't learned anything. They love our money, but they hate our form of government.

Thus, it's time to say goodbye to them. Yes, they have large areas. But, so what? So do we! Yes, they have lots of people. So what? So do we! They think their way of attacking peaceful neighbors for no other reason than to enrich themselves is acceptable. Hell no!

We have nothing against China and Russia doing well economically for themselves as long as they do so in a peaceful way. This has nothing to do with jealousy and more to do with respect thy neighbors. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Remember that one? We're against violence and we're for democracy. It's not perfect, but it's better than living under a dictator. Ukraine is fighting so it doesn't have to live under a nasty dictatorship like Russia's, and the Ukrainians deserve our respect and help at this extremely difficult time. Remember, if Russia succeeds in taking Ukraine, then we shouldn't be surprised to see it soon followed by China's invasion of Taiwan and then Russia's invasion of its other neighbors as Putin pretends he's Peter the Great.

China appears to be on the fence only because it wants to do to Taiwan what Russia is doing now to Ukraine. China's watching from the sidelines while secretly cheering for Russia to win in its aggression, but at the same time wondering what the world reaction will be like. Let's make it very clear how angry we are by Russia's violent aggression against a peaceful country.

US Treasury Secretary warns China over its stance on Russia:

Yellen warns, '..lack of participation in Western sanctions campaign against Russia could affect others' willingness to work with Beijing'. What is this?

China is independent, it is not under US order. Moreover, is Beijing not under sanctions.?

There’s enough wood in your eyes to build several houses.

Rarely do you see two authoritarian countries make such a large strategic miscalculation and get things so wrong....

Exactly how I see it except for the US and Russia.

It’s more a case about Washington making poor foreign policy judgement calls. The State Department, CIA and Pentagon all move quickly on a decision and action, but without having the clear foresight to know the full consequences of their moves. That’s poor leadership at the White House.

You have staff members at the Biden administration, who leap before they look, and after they regret their prior decision-making, it’s too late to resolve the problem. Accordingly, China looks like a winner by default.

The Chinese follow advice, as in “when you see your rival acting foolish, stay silent.” That means don’t raise your voice against your rival lest they could learn valuable lessons and possibly change their patterns of behavior for the better.

They are being very quiet now compared to how beligerent they were before the war.

They are quiet as described above, watching the US and Russia make a fool of themselves and create more destruction.

Wasted words by her unless she trying to be a comedian because right now China is laughing hysterically

China has a way of using everything to its advantage.

No. China is NEVER quiet unless they have been taken aback and they have. They are watching what's happening to Russia and they realize that could be them next. THAT'S why they're keeping their mouths shut.

Biden is finally getting that the world has changed, and that Imperium only economic warfare isn't a devastating weapon anymore.

He still (along with way too many Americans) doesn't grasp that the US propaganda machine isn't a devastating weapon anymore outside of the Imperium.

The US can declare whatever it likes to be reality and inside the Imperium, ordinary people will believe that to be reality no matter what, but outside of the Imperium ordinary people look on those declarations the same way people inside the Imperium look on Trump's declarations about what is reality, for the same reason.

Americans dont even believe US propaganda anymore, much less the whole world.

Janet Yelle is making a veiled threat: more sanctions heading China’s way if she doesn't “help” with Russian sanctions. China's relative quiet means…”Bring it on!”
