are USA located in Taiwan strait?

The Taiwan straight is international waters and open to all maritime nations including the USA. Are you surprised to hear that? Yes, the USA can sail through the Taiwan straight whenever it chooses to. International law applies and they are not breaking any law in sailing there.

some news for me...maybe even for Google?

Google already knows the US is free to sail there, it seems only you are unaware of their rights to do so.

how abt to say US warship provoking China in Taiwan strait?its more accurate headline!

Sailing through international waters is no provocation. If you would like to see a provocation, wait for the US to hold military maneuvers in the Taiwan straight, where they by law have the right to do so. Then you may have grounds for such a comment.

A good move. They should have done it during the exercises, though.

As expected, the pro-PRC crowd gets into the act early here with fake news!

Considering that U.S. regards Taiwan as a province of China... well, you can fill in the rest of the sentence...

You know, I think the US regards China as a province of Taiwan!

Considering that U.S. regards Taiwan as a province of China.

It doesn't.

"To this day, the U.S. “one China” position stands: the United States recognizes the PRC as the sole legal government of China but only acknowledges the Chinese position that Taiwan is part of China. Thus, the United States maintains formal relations with the PRC and has unofficial relations with Taiwan."

It's international waters. This is news worthy?

Then the PRC mouthpieces surely won't loose their stuffing over it, will they?

Bring it on...

What's the problem? The waters are international. America is just traveling where it is internationally recognized in a legal sense where anyone can travel through. Just because China says it is not international waters and just because China says Taiwan is part of China, does not mean it's true even in the slightest sense. So, again ~ What is the problem?

Nothing wrong in sailing in international waters. The Taiwan Straits doesn't belong to China. All democratic countries should send their warships regularly to sail through the Taiwan straits. Let China take back it's own medicine on how it bully other nation especially Taiwan.

If a country claims lands that aren't theirs, isn't it right to challenge this ("provoke them")? To do otherwise is to basically recognize that their claim is valid. China claims a whole lot of islands, including ones administered by Japan...

Last I checked the US - as do all other navies - have Freedom of the Seas. Of course, dictatorships like Communist China, fascist Russia and their many supporters on here, would love to remove this and eliminate International Rule of Law entirely.

These people - in a nutshell - despise freedom.

Taiwan will never, ever be controlled or ruled by Communist China.

Good job USN. It is not exactly news but important enough for people to know that it is going on and not slacking off. Japan should do it too, if only for training. It is very close to the Senkakus. The UK, Canada and Australia etc, all should do it. First send a coast guard ship, then a few missile battleships and then some subs and a few aircraft carriers. Really important to keep that stretch of water open, and the South China Sea too, in fact the whole Indo-pac, or wherever there is Chinese threat, but first and foremost, the Taiwan Strait.

With the CCP's continuous authoritarian expansionism toward Taiwan, it is even more vital for democracies to actively cooperate and counter such conduct.

Really no need for this to even be in the news. International waters are exactly that.

I was on a U.S. navy ship that sailed through the Taiwan Straits over 30 years ago, and more than once at that. As a matter of fact, if memory serves me right, the whole damn battle group sailed through. Google wasn't around then but then as now it is international waters. China had nothing to say back then and should keep quiet now. It's not news.

What law is that?

Legality of Military Activities in an EEZ

"Most of the States that participated in the LOSC negotiations supported the view that military operations, exercises, and activities have always been regarded as internationally lawful uses of the sea and that the right to conduct such activities would continue for all States within the EEZs of other States.4"

That law.

It's nothing compared to other things the US routinely does, like routinely invading other countries and routinely meddling in other countries ' affairs.

Your focus on the US while completely ignoring the Russian illegal invasion is telling.

As terrible as American leadership has been over the past few years, one thing will never change: US Naval Vessels are so cool. Big, fearsome, grey behemoths sailing the free seas. A sign of mankind's triumph over nature and a symbol of pure unadulterated strength.

However, like the US dollar, as iconic as it is, people are losing faith in it's power. American military leadership just sucks in 2023. Seasoned, tested, rank-and-file officers are jumping ship. The people running the Pentagon are actual parasites.

Fortunately China is all talk. If they invade Taiwan it will be a disaster for them. As soon as their boats hit the shores they would be sitting ducks, while simultaneously having to move their infrantry units and vehicles up mountains. Not to mention the many annual typhoons that could also literally rain on their parade.

LOL China HELLO now what? The US sails through and waves HELLO.!!! Any other country they shoot water cannons ram boats now what!! Just follow and say "WE followed and monitored them like watching a thief in a store.

The U.S. warship USS Milius sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Sunday, in what the U.S. Navy described on Monday as a "routine" transit, just days after China ended its latest war games around the island.
