“Just as there is a multitude of creatures on Earth, there could be other beings, even intelligent ones, created by God. This does not contradict our faith, because we cannot put limits on God’s creative freedom.”

What is this, Opus Dei trying to get in first to set up one of its twisted missions?

I’m sure that the South American Indians thought of themselves as intelligent beings too, the Catholic Church however didn’t see them that way, so what hope have any poor aliens got?

One thing I learned at a very young age was never to trust a Catholic priest especially when he seems to be talking sense, because then you know he is lying.

I hope the aliens are catholic, because the catholic church considers all other religions to be wrong. At the very least, someone should tell them to leave their wallets in their spaceships to protect their money.

All religions should be banned except for Shintoism, as it is a party religion and just fun.

I hope the Vatican astronomer has a close look at the crater on the dark side of the Moon named after Giordano Bruno, who was tortured for 8 years and then burned alive by the Catholic church for expressing views similar to those quoted in this article in the late 16th century.

"Four hundred years after it locked up Galileo..."

Galileo was never locked up. He was placed under what we would call house arrest, and was too old, sick and frail to do much anyways.

What a crock... they vehemently deny and drag by horse/kill anyone who says the world is not flat. They later drag by horse anyone who challenges the idea that the earth is not the center of the universe. Now, after having denied that any other life exists for a very, very long time, they are holding a meeting to make up excuses for when we eventually discover life on another planet (or it us). You can see how shallow and falliable The Word is in Christianity.

I guess they saw the first episode of the remake of 'V' and are panicking. Haha. It was crappy, by the way.

There will always be pelnty of suckers that will believe the various forms religious teachings, though I thing ammending the texts to gain ground on credibilty is always a bonus to garner support from a few more less easily suckered suckers.

Science and religion aren't always at odds with each other. A lot of scientists, including people like Stephen Hawking, try to describe the creation of the universe in a way that is at odds with the church, but they both agree that something had to start everything. That's when they leave science and head towards religion....

Just because aliens aren't mentioned in the Bible doesn't mean that there aren't any...The book is too small for God to include everything he has done...besides, it is specifically addressed to this world, and not to any others...so if there are aliens, then they probably have a similar set of instructions for living that does not mention us...

I can well imagine the need 2000 years ago for something to frighten the simple minded into obeying the law, a god, any god will do, maybe even a small team of gods. What I can never reconcile myself to is the idea that we still have these deluded people that believe in such things. We make life for our children simple and fun with tales about the tooth fairy and Santa Claus and such nonsense, but we would be seriously worried about our children if they continued to believe such nonsense when they got older. Is the human race not old enough to finally put away childish things?

Of all the organisations in the world the Catholic Church is least trust worthy of all, anything it has to say must been seen in the context of its history and its history is one of the cruellest and bloodiest.

There are aliens, but unfortunately for the Catholic Church, they're all Protestants.

“There are aliens, but unfortunately for the Catholic Church, they're all Protestants.”

Simple Catholic solution to this, burn the lot of them.

Maybe they should start at the top.

How can so many people post such awful things about the church? The church is trying to understand more deeply the depth of Gods creations with the help of scientists.

The fact that the church is so open minded shows that it is modern and only wants to preach the truth to tose with faith. Of course it is possible that alien life may exist. I`m sure God would want to creat life on other planets.

Seems to be a lot of 'sins of the father' stuff going around. I'm catholic and don't ever recall burning any protestants, drowing any wiccans, or even making a concerted effort to convert any atheists. Although I do keep a spare set of 15th century duds around in the off chance my inquistionary sleeper cell gets activated, because as my grandfather José Miguel Domingo Fernandez always used to say, "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!"

There are aliens, but unfortunately for the Catholic Church, they're all Protestants.

Technically for them to be actual Protestants there would first had to have been an alien Catholic Church (ie an established institution to 'protest' against). In theory they could act as Protestants but as of Vatican 2 thats also kosher.

Is this José Miguel Domingo Fernández related to Domingo Fernández Navarrete the man that wrote Tratados historicos, politicos, ethicos, y religiosos de la monarchia de China? If so they are going to very disappointed that you failed to put the accent in the family name. What worries me more is that we might actually be related.

You do also come close to making a very good point in respect to who has a real claim to be Catholic and who Protestant because in the Bible it clearly states that Jesus told his team to ONLY convert the Jews and not to even try and convert anybody else, which if you think about it would suggest that to be a Christian one would first need to have been a Jew. I am paraphrasing as I’m sure you will appreciate, but I have had this talk with a young priest a long time ago and he just ran away without giving an answer. So, what if these aliens do arrive and they turn out to be Jewish, will they have more right to be Catholic than the Catholics?

No relation, my Papa is a 76 year old retired chef living in New Port Richey.

What worries me more is that we might actually be related.

I don't blame you.

Quite possible, although if that situation should arise there are a few nuns that I know that would be happy to duke it out over the title of most pious being in the universe... and they'll win damnit.
