A. Asia is a continent. It is huge.

B. I am American. I would never ever put a name of a continent, country, religion nor racial term in front of American.

C. I think Americans can never come to face and repair race issues if they don’t stop putting the above from B in front of American.

How stupid, those are not responsible. Such morons should demonstrate in front of that Wuhan laboratories if they would be capable of thinking about it.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

I can relate to this while not directly. I am Filipino and relatives of mine who live in southern California have been told to "go back to your country" by other races. You can probably blame the media for this, the Chinese have been depicted very badly in the past years, especially during this pandemic. We can probably agree that unless everyone blatantly wears what is their ethnicity, discriminating on a certain nationality will eventually lead up to the public discriminating on the that country's continent or similar race.

Prior to four years ago, the MAGA-mobs would have been too ashamed to do something like this...

But four years of hate, intolerance, and grievance, echoed by the far-right hate chamber media has brought these creatures from out under their rocks...

Over 500K dead, an insurrection against our democracy, and a resurgence in hate crimes....the legacy of Donald Trump....

I'm surprised he didn't say at CPAC that some of these attackers were "very fine people"....

7 ( +21 / -14 )

and you point the finger at Japan?

"Now, just over a year and thousands of incidents later, some of the early victims find moving forward has been difficult or, at best, bittersweet. A recent wave of attacks on elderly Asian Americans — including the death of an 84-year-old San Francisco man — has fueled worries that hostilities have only worsened."

Reflect on the above.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Lincoln - not sure the article has any stats on whether this uptick is the "MAGA crowd". It does mention the attacker in the case discussed was a Latino...... Do you have concrete stats on who the perpetrators of this increased anti Asian stuff are? anecdotally I have seen a few reports that the attackers in some cases at least are African Americans (or at least Black people).

Perhaps you've missed this;

Hate crimes in the U.S. rose to the highest level in more than a decade as federal officials also recorded the highest number of hate-motivated killings since the FBI began collecting that data in the early 1990s, according to an FBI report released Monday.

Our work to address anti-Asian racism is inextricably tied to fighting anti-Black racism

Racism and bigotry of any kind should be condemned. But the issue of racism in the US is not as straightforward as it seems. How about when Blacks are racist against Asians or vice versa. Known to happen a lot but never highlighted as much.

My relative who is a doctor migrated to the US 25 years ago and he mentions that he did not face any racism from the white people that he has interacted with both professionally and personally, at least not of the overt kind. But he has faced a bit from folks of other ethnic backgrounds who were immigrants to the US themselves (and also highly educated like him).

I am not saying that one person's personal experiences are representative of everyone's experiences, but only that issues of racism in a cultural melting pot like the US are too complex to be blamed on one person or event.

10 ( +12 / -2 )

Anyone that is asked where they come from and put America second in the response should be deported to the country or continent they claim to be from. Seems obvious to me that they think of America as a second class quality.

This is what Trump has wrought with his "China Virus" and his "Kung-Flu" deflections to avoid his own ineptitude.

I agree with the above poster: 4 years ago racists would have been unlikely to utter these things in public because it was not socially acceptable. Of all Trump's failures and disasters, giving racists and xenophobes the space to spread their filth has been one of the more depressing. Not 500k dead-depressing, but depressing nonetheless.

7 ( +15 / -8 )

This is what Trump has wrought with his "China Virus" and his "Kung-Flu" deflections to avoid his own ineptitude.

It's the CCP virus.

6 ( +14 / -8 )

Kaerimashita, I've noticed this trend as well (at least in the news reported, I don't have any statistics), and I wonder what is the reason.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

Trump spread hate and racism even before he was elected. It was part of his platform. He never stopped or slowed down.

Early in his presidency, it caused many unhinged people to attack Americans of Latin descent. People would demand to see someone's green card thinking that they were illegal immigrants. Only, they were full on Americans.

In 2020, he has focused racism on China as a diversion for his failures to contain CV. Now, these unhinged people are lose on another group of Americans.

That man was a cancer on America.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

Viking,

What do you mean "was"? We are still mid-chemo.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

It's the CCP virus.

It came from China. There is zero evidence that is was manufactured in a lab. I know this because smart people with degrees in biology and epidemiology tell me so.

But Trump had to deflect blame from his own incompetence, so he started to racialize it. And now we have Asian Americans getting knifed, pushed down, and insulted.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Absolutely despicable and unforgivable racism. Physically attacking and stabbing innocent chikdren simply because they are Asian is the work of pure evil. I truly hope this Gomez animal is locked away for life and endures the worst US prison has to offer every day of his worthless life.

The US had better sort out this anti-Asian racism fast, or risk being seen as a violent and racist failed state. I know countless people who used to want to visit the US, but are simply too terrified to go for fear of being attacked or killed.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Absolutely disgusting! I just hate racist people unbelievable!

Trump spread hate and racism

No, racism in the States towards Asians is not new, has nothing to do with Trump, it has a lot of do with the cancel culture and many of the schools institutions now are discriminating more against Asians and whites in order to except photos from blacks and Latinos, stop blaming everything on Trump, he’s not in the office and this has been a seething and growing problem for a very long time. During the Rodney King riots blacks were attacking Asians store owners and there was no Trump back in, so.....

In 2020, he has focused racism on China as a diversion for his failures to contain CV.

No, he focused rightfully on China as our REAL and serious geopolitical foe, not to mention the virus that was unleashed which has nothing to do with race, it’s the government actions (whether intentional or not ) that caused this, has nothing to do with the genetic makeup of the people. Leave the race component out please.

That man was a cancer on America.

Actually, the real cancer is the woke and cancel culture that is tearing the country apart.

Please people, especially non-Americans. Asia is a massive area. Please copy and paste the link and check it out. Sorry that the links are not hot here, but it makes JT system safer.

I have contacts, acquaintances, and friends around the world. Not one of them from outside the United States marks themselves with a continent, country, religion, or race before telling them where they come from.

Racism can be stopped. But people must bring it up and be proud of their present passports and not some things from the past or dreams of their future.

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

bass4funk writes total sense as always. But since the mods on here are woke lefties, it is only a matter of time before his excellent post disappears.

-8 ( +7 / -15 )

I have contacts, acquaintances, and friends around the world. Not one of them from outside the United States marks themselves with a continent, country, religion, or race before telling them where they come from.

Are you suggesting the likes of Mr Cung should have advised their attackers of their nationality to prevent an attack? He was attacked from behind, his kids eye and face slashed with a knife. Get real.

There is NO imperative or requirement to let these scum know where you are from. The imperative is on the scum to not be racist psychopaths. If they cannot manage that, lock them away forever.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

It should be made clear that the vast majority of these attacks on Asians in America are being committed by Young Hispanic and black men.

-6 ( +6 / -12 )

@Fighto: You totally missed the point.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

Illiterate morons do commit such heinous crimes.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

donald made racism mainstream and we are all suffering for it!!!

0 ( +7 / -7 )

This is very terrible news. Personally, I think Trump's open use of hate speech has contributed to the rise of craziness in all aspects of American life.

Don’t think so, Trump is definitely an excuse to use for poor Democrat policies, opposing cancel and woke culture have nothing to do with racism. Blacks are now more snd more being displaced by the same cancel culture they deeply supported and by the very people they support predominantly and that’s Democrats.

*In a 2014 editorial, conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly pointed out that Asian household incomes were 20 percent higher than white household incomes on average. “So, do we have Asian privilege in America?” he asked. Of course not, he said. The real reason that Asians are “succeeding far more than African-Americans and even more than white Americans” is that “their families are intact and education is paramount,” he said.*

At a time when it is being proposed that hundreds of billions be spent to uplift the Negroes and other minorities, the nation’s 300,000 Chinese-Americans are moving ahead on their own,” claimed a 1966 story in the U.S. News and World Report, which noted their “strict discipline” and “traditional virtues.”

*To the extent that all myths are rooted in truth, this model minority stereotype recognizes a real pattern of Asian upward mobility. A century ago, Asian Americans were known as laborers of the lowest wage. They were ditch diggers, launderers, miners. *Yet over the decades, despite poverty, racial violence and widespread discrimination, many Asians managed to clamber up the socioeconomic ladder.

Basically, Asian Americans had to overcome the same obstacles of White injustice, racial prejudice and discrimination and they did it, but the two basic key factors are: education and an intact family, this is the reason for their success and now in order to regulate the playing field, Asians are supposed to be limited to how many can apply for University, admit a few to allow more Blacks and Latinos to enter in these institutions, so once again, this is done based on quotas and race and not the merits of success, hard work being consistent. This doesn’t stop and curtail racism, this creates and intensifies it.

Trump appeals to the uneducated; those who don't have higher order thinking skills. Racist people tend to be uneducated as well. Fix the education problem in the US and many things will be fixed.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Americans must educate themselves better. Racism is bad.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Trump appeals to the uneducated;

Trump has nothing to do with Democrat policies that have failed the Black communities over the last 60 years, in fact, he’s not even in office, so now what will Biden and the Democrats do about it? How will they fix this racial injustice, find another bogeyman to try and shove the blame or actually deal with a serious problem. The Black community definitely deserves better.

Wasn't he fired from Fox for sexual abuse?

Hmmm...those are two entirely different issues, let’s not conflate the two and stay focused..

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

These innocents didn’t get attacked because of poor Democrat policies, they were attacked because an idiot of a President called it Kung Fu virus, demonized Asians and encouraged his bigoted followers to go after anyone who they thought was in American.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

The pathetic pompeo was out with his dog whistles yesterday, another of donald’s bigots wagging his tail, even though his master is no longer his master!!!

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Not separate issues.

Yes, they are TWO COMPLETELY different issues, sex and racism have nothing to do with it, if you want to go down that hole on lost credibility, we can name a ton of Democrats that lost it, again, keep the focus on the Asian racism issue, please.

O'Reilly lost his cred for anything.

Not in that regard.

Trump has nothing to do with Democrat policies that have failed the Black communities over the last 60 years,

In case you missed it, the post is about Asian Americans, not blacks.

But Blacks leaders in the Democrat party are calling for quotas and fairness when it comes to admissions of students of color, which Asians are or minority if you prefer.

Kristen Clarke would uproot and change the system across the board from job placement to academia to allow preferential treatment based on race rather than merit, in doing so, that in itself is highly racist.

Do you have any evidence at all any of these attacks came from a "MAGA mob" (I assume you mean Trump supporters), or did you just pull that out thin air?

Personally, I would bet that if anyone compiles a statistic, it would show the opposite of what you claim.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

serendipitous1

Trump appeals to the uneducated; those who don't have higher order thinking skills.

What is your reason for claiming that? I would rather claim that the Trump-hating propaganda media appeal to the low-information crowd, and that it it takes some effort to take a critical look at what CNN et al tell us.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

...and most of the attacks are committed by young black men, but that's not important right now.

WHITE PEOPLE EVIL!

0 ( +6 / -6 )

I wonder if the US media's incessant demonization of China has anything to do with the racist attacks against Asians.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

To a certain extent, it probably has and that would be a stupid, ignorant, and the wrong thing to do, to demonize these people that really had nothing to do with what the government of China has done to the world essentially.

Facebook is not a reliable source.

No, but it's not the source, it's one of the other links, the first one being Youtube and the second FNC which is the main source.

Hate crimes in the U.S. rose to the highest level in more than a decade as federal officials also recorded the highest number of hate-motivated killings since the FBI began collecting that data in the early 1990s, according to an FBI report released Monday

So where in the article did it say that MAGA supporters committed hate crime against others than the other way around? Yes, we know you hate Trump and anyone who supports him with the utmost passion but stop pointing fingers without evidence of the exact individuals who committed these crimes.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Bah! You've changed your tune.

No, I didn't and never do.

The fat guy was responsible for pouring fuel on the fire with his racist rhetoric.

No, racism towards Asians has been around in the States forever and took a fever pitch during the Rodney King riots, I went through that entire event and the Koreans just got hammered, complete tragedy. It's the Democrat's policies that have failed the Black communities time, after time, after time....

He has just about offended everyone except WASP straight males who kowtow to him.

The Dems are doing that now by pushing for quotas as if that will help Blacks academically or racial tensions.

China virus, kung flu, you name it, he's said it.

It did come from China, it didn't come from Ethiopia.

-9 ( +2 / -11 )

bass4funk:

H1N1 came from USA. Shall we call it the American virus? AIDS came from USA. Shall we call that the American virus too? Your virus has sure killed a lot of people.

@Fighto: You totally missed the point.

Reading. Try it. You'll like it.

Fellas - Im not sure the article has any stats on whether this uptick is the fallout from "PROPA-MAGA". But if it smells like BS and "makes everything about race all the time". . . well Sure you are bud.

"It does mention the attacker in the case discussed was a Latino...... anecdotally I have seen a few reports that the attackers in some cases at least are African Americans (or at least Black people)"

Yep. Just like I always say.. about race.

It's well known that most college-educated people in the US tend to vote Democrat, not Republican, and it's not a coincidence. For the vast majority of graduates, for at least four years college forces them to think more about the US, her issues, and the world. It just can't be compared to only having completed high school.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Prior to four years ago, the MAGA-mobs would have been too ashamed to do something like this.

This is a false claim. The uptick in violence against Asians in the U.S. in the past year has been documented, and the majority of violent attacks were committed by other minority groups, especially blacks. Many of these attacks do not get listed as “hate crimes” because of the beliefs that Asians don’t count as a minority or that blacks cannot commit hate crimes.

That is exactly 110% correct

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

I'm skeptical of this claim. It sounds exactly right-wing extremist pundit's rhetoric, rather than based in reality.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Go ahead, name a 2 or 3 and contrast that to Asians and their high standard of living, high earners on average, hardworking, most graduating with some of the highest degrees, extremely low incarceration rates, family unite intact, so which Black city can match ANY Asian city in the any rich and prosperous Blue State?

Asian Americans don't have a higher standard of living than White Americans after you adjust for cost of living.

There are no 'Asian' cities in America. Yes, there are Asian enclaves, but not Asian cities.

Propaganda? I understand Trump got the highest black vote yet. How do you explain that?

Yes, I guess going from 6% to 12% of black men and from 4% to 6% of black women means that Trump is wildly popular with black Americans?

And...guess what the #1 reason for that increase in the black vote? Immigration.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Time to push BLM aside and start ALM.

-7 ( +2 / -9 )

One thing he is looking ahead to — life as a newly naturalized U.S. citizen in a country where “they respect people.” Cung remains unbothered that he may not fit some people's idea of what America looks like.

America is sprinting away from the idea of not judging people by what they look like. In fact, a major political party has changed its entire organizing philosophy from pushing on class based resentments to race and all other “intersectional” divides. This change in direction gained a head of steam under the Obama Administration and as been picking up speed ever since. Biden is making racial equity - code word for racial grievance - the highest priority of his administration. He has woven it into every fiber of his policies. I fear for America’s ability to survive as a nation. The future will be bleak if we allow politicians to continue to exploit voters based on race and other differences. When identity is more important than the content of one’s character, there can be no justice or peace.

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Anyone that is asked where they come from and put America second in the response should be deported to the country or continent they claim to be from. Seems obvious to me that they think of America as a second class quality.

Boy, if THIS is what qualifies as ‘American’, I might just leave that bit off entirely.

The sad and harsh reality is that the Democrats have failed the Black communities for over 60 years, their policies and gutted and devated them

Don’t worry, guys. The GOP and Trump will show us all how much they help black people. It’s on their agenda right after releasing their healthcare plan.

7 ( +8 / -1 )

There are racist people in the USA as in other countries BUT only in America will you find people that are very vocal in protecting and speaking for the victims too!

God Bless America!

0 ( +3 / -3 )

DOJ reported that 52.7% of all hate crimes in 2019 were committed by whites and 23.9% committed by blacks.

So, it is hard to swallow the right wing position that this uptick is primarily from black people.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

There is always attacks in America. And attacks in all over the world each and every countries. But what we hear in USA is some kind of propaganda. A propaganda against Trump. This is what the purpose of this ARTICLE.

Look at China, they attack Japanese people, Look at Korea they attack Japanese, Look at Islamic nations they attack Jews and Christians ..

But painting the attacks to divert to a certain political leader is a propaganda

0 ( +2 / -2 )

All racial attacks are despicable but I think the point is that they can’t all be laid at the door of one racial group not can they all be ascribed to one common motive.

To blame Thump for racism in the US is silly. If anything his policies were pretty colorblind. And there are plenty of politicians of all stripes who relentlessly use race as a motivating factor for supporting them or indeed for vilifying their opponents.

it’s a shame that so many people fall for their lies

1 ( +4 / -3 )

Given that whites make up about 65% of the population it appears that they are much less likely- as a percentage of the population- to commit a “hate crime”. Your stats work against your argument. In fact it paints black people in a bad light. Are you sure this is the point you are trying to make? Where is the equity in these stats?

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

To blame Thump for racism in the US is silly.

I completely agree. Racism has been a huge problem throughout the Americas since the first Europeans invaded the continent.

But just as silly is hearing Trump defenders claim his words haven't added to racial tensions.
