A stolen handgun found at the crime scene had been converted to a weapon capable of automatic gunfire.

Probably an auto sear. Available online for about $20.

I was told the media would ignore this story because the shooter was black. Yet here it is. Again.

Wait a minute… in California it’s illegal for a felon to possess a firearm. It's illegal to convert a handgun to automatic fire. It's illegal to steal a handgun. It's illegal to carry a handgun without a permit. It's illegal to brandish a firearm in public. It is illegal to misuse a firearm.

All “common sense” gun laws that mean nothing to the people willing to break them.

A year ago, prosecutors implored the state parole board not to release Martin early from a 10-year sentence — noting his prior convictions for possessing an assault weapon, stealing electronics from department stores and beating a girlfriend he encouraged to be a prostitute.

The best way to reduce gun violence is to never release violent criminals from prison before they serve their full sentence.

Dandrae Martin, who was held without bail, was freed from an Arizona prison in 2020 after serving just over 1 1/2 years for violating probation in separate cases involving a felony conviction for aggravated assault in 2016 and a conviction on a marijuana charge in 2018. Court records show he pleaded guilty to punching, kicking and choking a woman in a hotel room when she refused to work for him as a prostitute.

I think I am sensing a pattern.

Please identify the parole board members who thought it was a good idea to release Mr. Martin early.

Not ignore, but they will refrain from discussing the race if the person is a minority quite often, but if the person is white that information will be broadcasted immediately.

Right. But you also have an ambiguous, ungrammatical, 200-year-old statement in your founding document that gives people 'the right to keep and bear arms.'

As it stands, the majority of the population can legally acquire a basically unlimited amount of firearms and ammunition with the bare minimum of screening, and almost no reasonable justification beyond 'I might need it one day.' Even when background checks do accompany a sale, the databases are notoriously inadequate and incomplete.

Then, a lack of nationwide regulations such as safe-storage, permitting, licensing, training and basic safety requirements - which any "responsible" gun owner should be happy to follow and don't actually infringe on someone's right to own a gun - guarantees a constant flow of once legal weapons into the wrong hands. Even the Mexican government is trying to sue American gun manufacturers due to the uninterrupted flow of weapons into that country.

As long as firearms possession is guaranteed by law instead of allowed by it as in every other comparable nation - with the accompanying vastly lower levels of gun violence - none of the nibbling around the edges that lawmakers are limited to will even make a dent in the amount of daily carnage caused by the USA's 3 - 400,000,000 guns.

If the gun was illegal, why paste a picture on Facebook? Darwin Award?
