One way tickets bought at the same time with stolen passports to two different destinations in Europe. The terrorism theory sure looks plausible at the moment.

Brand new plane and with no history of troubles, and now suddenly disappear!! My guess AL QAEDA, or some other related TERRORIST group/organization. I hope to god/s that I AM WRONG!!

Elbuda: What would Al Qaeda have to gain from blowing up a Malaysian airlines plane bound for Beijing and full of mostly Chinese passengers? I agree that it's starting to look more and more like foul play, but I can't see any angle for AQ doing it.

Smithinjapan,

I was thinking that perhaps AQ (and I freely admit that this is pure speculation) might want to try out a new technique on a softer target. A Malaysian flight not originating or terminating in a high security environment might be a good test case.

I know that the bomb angle is not proven, and cannot be proven for a significant period of time, but the sudden catastrophic failure of a well-maintained aircraft at altitude with no communication makes this senario the most probable to me..

Not confirmed but there is an article reporting that 中国人権民主化運動情報センター announced that PRC may have shot down the plane fearing an attack similar to 9.11 targeting some political assembly held right now.

Yes, the existence of such an article is unconfirmed. At best this sounds like a conspiracy theory.

Samurai: Haven't seen anything about that on the internet(yet). Because the vast majority were Chinese, I was thinking it somehow, some way was related to the unrest in western China. Remember the knife rampage at the Chinese train station.

To clarify 中国人権民主化運動情報センター is I believe a non-political organization centered in Hong Kong to transmit information concerning how democracy is serpressed in Mainland China.

Brand new plane and with no history of troubles, and now suddenly disappear!!

Actually, according to Wiki, the plane first flew in May 2002 and logged more than "20,243 hours and 3,023 cycles in service."

Also, it had been in an accident in August 2012 when one of its wingtips broke off after striking the tail of another plane, reqiring significant repairs. It was certified as flight-worthy by Boeing after those repairs.

It helps no one to spread misinformation while simultaneously screaming "Al Qaeda!!" everytime something happens with a airplane, no matter how flimsy the evidence.

@El

I'll echo the fact that this is just off the wall mysterious, but as Smith said, I don't see what and how Al Qaeda would gain from this, however, there could be other terrorists at play here or another worse case scenario, that there was a serious mechanical problem, but even so, the the chances it being so bad that the pilots couldn't get a distress call out is a bit unlikely. So I will go with a possible terrorist attack, but IMO, I'm ruling out Al Qaeda, but there are dozens of terrorist groups and I feel it's going to take some time to put all the pieces together. I do hope, whatever the outcome, they can quickly find out who, what and most importantly, why?

Elbuda Mexicano,

Brand new plane and with no history of troubles, and now suddenly disappear!! My guess AL QAEDA...

Actually, according to Wiki, the plane first flew in May 2002 and logged more than "20,243 hours and 3,023 cycles in service." It's not an old aircraft, but it most certainly is not new.

Also, it had been in an accident in August 2012 when one of its wingtips broke off after striking the tail of another plane, requiring significant repairs. It was certified as flight-worthy by Boeing after those repairs.

It helps no one to spread misinformation while simultaneously screaming "Al Qaeda!!" every time something happens with an airplane, no matter how lacking we are in hard evidence.

The 24 hour golden window for search and rescue have passed. I hope everyone on that plane is all accounted for (Dead or Alive).

Other possibilities that don't involve "terrorists."

1.Pilot error/disorientation - This is how a number of smaller aircraft have been found to have crashed, including, most noteably, that flown by John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1999, and what was determined to be the most like cause of the Air France Flight 447 crash in 2009.

2.Suicidal passengers or pilots. The crashes of Pacific Air Lines Flight 773 (1964), SilkAir Flight 185 (1997), EgyptAir Flight 990 (1999), and LAM Mozambique Airlines Flight 470 (2013) were all determined to be the result of deliberate actions by either passengers or pilots in a manner having nothing to do with terrorism.

Exactly, That is the point I made before. OF COURSE Al Quaeda would love to blow up airplanes, but those would be the ones of the "Great Devil" USA. Or even better, an El Al flight, but they never manage to do that.

Malaysian airlines, full of Chinese and Indonesians, plus only 3 Americans? Why?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Smith and WilliB Not sure why you think the al Qaeda hypothesis is so impossible. Most of the terrorism in China over the last 20 years has been at the hands of Uighur separatists, including the train station attack last week. The USA detained several of them at Guantanamo. There is a proven relationship between the two groups. Likewise Makaysia has been known for decades as a country where Islamic extremists can find funds and support, and al Qaeda has been one of those groups. This is all well documented.

At this point it's too early to tell, but the scenario of foreign terrorist involvement (al Qaeda or otherwise) isn't too far fetched.

Hokkaidoguy:

" Makaysia has been known for decades as a country where Islamic extremists can find funds and support, and al Qaeda has been one of those groups. "

So why would they bite the hand that feeds them? If the Uiguirs are involved, wouldn´t they pick a China Air flight?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

A Malaysian official has announced that no physical evidence of the missing aircraft has been found yet, including the door mentioned in the article.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

WilliB - it was a Chinese code share flight with a majority of Chinese passengers. Is it so hard to believe that a group that attacked a train station with swords last week might not be too concerned about collateral damage?

Meh, it's just a hypothesis. In my opinion it's worth investigating. Makes more sense than the theories of alien abductions, meteor strikes or corporate hit jobs that have been making the rounds.

LOL, I did not even know of these. Has nobody blamed the Illuminati, the Skull-and-Bones Society, or GW Bush yet?

i think will soon find out the missing plane in the next 1-2 days. We together pray for them

One thing strage about the terrorist theory is that we have not heard of any statements made by the perpatrators which is usual in a terrorist act.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yeah another news outlet mentioning the Chinese may have shot it down, there have been a couple of jet liners shot down over the years, but if this is the case then china really does need to be brought to task over it and hopefully sanctioned, shooting down commercial jetliners in peace time is a big big no no.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I am no expert but I heard that the Southern tip of Viet Nam is full of mud, very thick mud which is brought by Mekong river system, years after years, centuries after centuries for thousands of years. So if the plane is now buried under 30m, 40 m of mud ,under the sea, can we still find it with today technology? This may explain why we haven't find anything yet.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I'm disgusted with KLIA for not checking passports properly. I have flown through there a lot and would like to know that I am safe doing so.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yeah another news outlet mentioning the Chinese may have shot it down

Why would they do such a thing? Violation of their air space or thinking it was violated? Did they want to set an example? Seems preposterous. Wouldn't a missile or rocket launch have left some evidence?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

With no claims of responsibility by any terrorist cells, I'm wondering if this is something similar to what happened with the Air France Airbus flight 447 traveling from South America to France. In that case, the pilots were the cause of the crash after ice blocked the pitot tubes - causing the autopilot to disconnect due to invalid speed readings. The pilots failed to recognize that their speed readout was compromised and ended up putting the plane into an accelerated stall trying to get their speed back into "the green". They never got word out on the radio because they were too busy trying to get the flight instrument readings acceptable again. The mantra for pilots is "Aviate, Navigate, Communicate". FLY your plane before you worry about where you are or about talking on the radio. Trouble with the flight instruments would also help explain why the Air Malaysia flight turned away from their flight path shortly before dropping off of radar.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Fadamor, wasn't the weather a factor in that case?

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Fadamor, good points except that when a mechanical problem arises, communication becomes a priority as well.

The fact that a debris field haa yet to be spotted indicates to me: A: the search is in the wrong area B: the aircraft crashed into a dense, remote jungle Or C: the aircraft is intact at the bottom of the sea somewhere or in some airfield.

The supposition of having been shot down or exploded midair would create a significant debris field which has yet to be identified.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Fadamor, wasn't the weather a factor in that case?

There were thunderstorms in the area, but 12 other flights were using the same route at that time and arrived at their destinations safely. If I were to assign the most significant "weather" cause, it would be that it was late at night with no horizon to refer to. Had the pilots been able to see the horizon, they would have realized they had the nose too high (as much as 40° nose-up prior to impact with the water) even though they were rapidly descending at up to 10,000 ft/min.

The Malaysia Airlines flight was also conducted late at night. It could be purely coincidence and the cause of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 ends up being something totally different, but spatial disorientation is a real concern once a pilot no longer trusts what his instruments are telling him and he can't look out the window to get his bearings.

First of all: My thoughts and prayers to all the victims families who are going through this turbulent time.

Secondly, What we have here are some variables: Mechanical Failure, Weather, or a Terrorist Attack.

The plane took off loaded with fuel, climbed up and leveled out at cruising speed, reportedly turned around back to Malaysia, and then vanished from thin air.

So, let's look at variable 1 - Mechanical Failure: Not very probable considering the pilot did not radio any problems and this Boeing 777 was a Brand New Jet right off the line. So, that rules out Mechanical Failure.

Variable 2 - Weather: Most Aircraft will climb up to 35,000 feet during the cruise, therefore, unless lightning strikes upward and with such an ark of lightning that's powerful enough to knock all the power out of the plane including the radio and sending it plummeting to the sea is highly improbable.

Variable 3 - Terrorist Attack: 2 Individuals reportedly boarded the plane with one way tickets and Fake Passporrts to Communist Smog Filled Bejing China for what? Vacation? Beautiful Malaysia isn't enough that 2 Individuals have to use Fake Passports and "Sneak Into" Communist China? Isn't usually the other way around? Nobody in Malaysia Security thought that 2 Malaysians really kinda dont match the photograph of an Italian and an Australian and they just ushered them right on through Security without double checking those passports?

Variable #3 is becoming more realistic than 1 & 2.

The plane was probably traveling at its standard 638mph or Mach .84 when it somehow either blew up and disintegrated or it took a nose dive into the Sea hitting the water a Mach 1. That would be the same as hitting the ground at Mach 1. I wouldn't expect any survivors.

Finally, If this does turn out to be a terrorist attack, then China has a serious problem with Islamic Extremism & it seems to be spiraling out of control in Asia. China needs to deal with this issue no matter what the stakes are and if China needs any help with Counter Terrorism, then feel free to call on the U.S. - We got plenty of experience with smoking Tango's out of their holes.

Again, thoughts and prayers to the families.

Someone else said something similar and I'm puzzled as to why this is being reported as such. This aircraft was delivered to Malaysia Airlines on May 31, 2002. It's been in service for almost 12 years. From Wiki:

The aircraft was a Boeing 777-2H6ER,[a] serial number 28420, registration 9M-MRO. The 404th Boeing 777 produced, it first flew on 14 May 2002, and was delivered new to Malaysia Airlines on 31 May 2002. The aircraft was powered by two Rolls-Royce Trent 892 engines.[69] According to the airline, it had accumulated at least 20,243 hours and 3,023 cycles in service. < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malaysia_Airlines_Flight_370#Aircraft>

It seems very odd that the whole plane would just go missing without a trace. Even when that Air France jet pancaked into the Atlantic some years ago some debris was found. This seems to be gone into thin air. How?

In the Air France crash, it took 5 days of searching to find that initial wreckage (and a couple of years before they found the rest of the wreckage and the black boxes). I would be surprised if NOTHING is ultimately found but I'm not that surprised that nothing has been found so far.

If they could not find wreckage of Plane in the sea and then they should look out at nearest coastal and land location from last known location on Radar.

Malaysia Officials today revealed that five passengers checked in to fly on the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 but didn’t board the plane.

I hope Malaysia authority is tracking down on all five peoples who checked in but didn't board on the MH370. If they released the CCTV picture of all suspected peoples and then I believe public can help to find and sorting out puzzle to authority. It will be very strange if passengers did not contact to Airline counter for they missed boarding to their flight. Their luggages were on flight MH370 and they need to inform Airline if they were not involved in any crimes activity.

The problem is Malaysia authority is holding back some important clue to public. I think they should release on Internet and public can help to find location of five passengers who checked in but didn't board on the flight MH370.

I like to suggest to Malaysia authority to release detail of all five peoples and CCTV image of all five peoples if they could not contact to them in person. Public can gather information for authority and they should not ignore capacity of peoples.

Can a commercial airliner flying over the area see anything from their altitude? Or do you have to be lower to really have a shot? I keep thinking about all of the hardware they are using to try to find clues, but if you add in all of the commercial airliners flying over the area, it starts to feel pretty creepy.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

This is getting strange. 3 days out and no trace! It will become harder as time rolls on. Maybe it is not where they think is should be. Maybe is flew under radar a bit.
