and yet life seems normal on the streets of tokyo. Is one supposed to feel more worried or less?

Unlike HK, Japan doesn't rely too much on necessities from China like bog roll or rice. That's why the HKers are panicking, what with the closed borders. But then again, hoarding, panicking and stripping shelves bare sometimes seems like a national pastime in HK.
