I also spend only about $60 on my food, so I see nothing wrong with his answer. If the question was how much does my family spend, the answer would be far higher since my wife does most of the shopping.

I see nothing wrong with his answer.

While I do wonder about the accuracy of his answer, it does seem his answer has been taken way out of context. He was not asked about national averages or optimal figures for Kiwis. He was asked about his own personal spending. How can people be so stupid as to make that into a gaffe? Or let the media do it? One has got to be dumb as a bag of hammers to do that.

I don't know anything about him. But I am not surprised NZ turned to the conservatives after 6 years of suffering Ardern. I would not be surprised if Ardern is the most hated person in the country right now. She must amount to the worst gender diversity hire ever. I am sure you could swing a stick around the streets of Auckland and find a better woman for the job.

Jabcinta Adern and the liberals have no legacy. Abandoned the job a while back. Disposed of in the trash bin of NZ history.

Oh they have a legacy alright. Not a good one though.

Jabcinta Adern and the liberals have no legacy.

They will have a legacy:

Closing the country's borders to their own country’s citizens;

Locking down those inside their borders,

Mentally and financially crippling those who declined to get vaccinated (many of who foresaw what is now recognized as scientific fact), forcing them to comply or, in the words of current PM Hipkins, they would be "hunted down."

That is their legacy.

Glad New Zealand looks to be waking up and moving on, just as my Kiwi friends predicted they finally would.

I just hope National come down hard on gangs and youth crime. I also hope they inject hundreds of millions more into health care and simplify the process for getting houses built.

New Zealanders have voted for a Conservative government - which is par for the course andcl consistent over their full democratic history.

Ardern deserted the ship at the right time it appears!

Luxon, who served as chief executive of both Unilever Canada and Air New Zealand. Luxon has promised tax cuts for middle-income earners and a crackdown on crime.

Hipkins has promised free dental care for people younger than 30 and the removal of sales taxes on fruit and vegetables.

Those two little sound bites say so much...all you need to know really.

Luxon has a record of running a heartless multinational, in Unilever, which cares precisely f...all about the average person. Air NZ? Well, we've all seen how Alan Joyce (Qantas) just screwed Australian taxpayers for countless millions of dollars in personal gain, cheered on by the Conservative Morrison cluster.... party.

"Crackdown on crime"... ho hum... the kind of drivel these types always come out with. The equivalent of kissing a baby in the streets while trying to sway not-too-bright voters. They have no clue, or any interest in really knowing about, the causes or how to make it better. By trying to strike the "tough guy" pose, they always make it worse.

Hipkins mentions a couple of practical, not especially eye-catching, policy initiatives that would actually help the majority of the population. But will anyone notice? Hell no. Drowned out. Luxon money has bought the majority of media coverage.

@Keepyer Internetpoints

 I would not be surprised if Ardern is the most hated person in the country right now.

I can guarantee you that she is nowhere near the most hated person in the country right now. She has the little groups of radical lunatic haters on her back, which amount to a small percentage of the population, but overall she inmost definitely not hated. Some people might choose to vote for the other party (than the one she fronted), but she is respected on the whole (and rightly so).

Nonu, that's NOT what the Nationals do! Ever! Learn about the politics of your country!

If you care about those sort of things, vote Labor/Hipkins.

Global leftism has long been leading the world down the wrong path and self-thinkers are growing in numbers.

Well it’s not over yet. 61 seats need to form a majority and National/Act are on exactly that. I hope they can do it, but if they can’t I’d rather see Labour/Greens back in than a National/Act coalition requiring the support of that opportunist scumbag Peters.

Okay Randy. If you're a "self-thinker" you most certainly shouldn't be listening to rightists either, who want to suck every available dollar into the accounts of the already mega-wealthy. I guess I'll see you in the forest someday then. Let's share some freshly killed rabbit or deer, or whatever.
