This is shocking. Awful crimes caused by humanity. Arms dealers should be concerned for their future souls.
I recently watched a documentary about the journalist Marie Colvin's death in Homs, Syria with scenes of babies dying from shrapnel wounds in medical centres. Assad and Putin should rot in hell.

As a citizen of Syria, allow me to say thank you and I support your comment 100%

Yes. I remember the late Tony Benn reminding us that during the crusades, some arms manufacturers were arming both sides.
It’s depressing that so little has changed.
Remember the answer to the question of how we knew Saddam had chemical weapons which he used on the Kurds?
The US and others armed him with them.

Aye.
I remember that picture of Donald (no, not that one) Rumsfeld shaking hands with his buddy Saddam Hussein. How it used to gall the PNAC types who tried to wish it all away.
And then there was the pure evil of Madeleine Albright who claimed that the deaths of half a million Iraqi children was "worth it".
War, as ever, is an industry that only the rich profit from.

Tragic, but what can be done about those lawless countries? Even sending our troops there has no effect and will only make things worse. Eliminate greed and corruption, maybe thats a start?
If you want to see a movie about kid soldiers I recommend the 'Beasts of No Nation'. This is not for people with a weak stomach.

As a westerner I am deeply ashamed that we watched Russian warships sail to the Med to attack targets in Syria. And then stall on going to the defence of children and women being slaughtered.
I cried when I watched that 2 year old boy die in Baba Amr from a shrapnel wound because they cut civilians off from the hospitals. And then dropped bombs on the civilians there.
I only hope that Assad's time will come.
Toasted Heretic
I presume you mean the countries that manufacture and profit from the deaths of untold millions?
Start with a boycott, lobby your local politician, join a pressure group. Every little bit helps - ignore the naysayers who say it doesn't because they've never got up off their cynical posteriors and tried to effect change.
You can also practice civil disobedience, sit-downs, chain yourself to fences of arms manufacturers and so on.
That's my advice and it may not be for everyone, of course.

It’s not as simple as that. While I side with non-intervention, particularly when it comes to the Middle East, it has to be granted that intervention in the Balkans saved thousands and lack of intervention in Rwanda allowed a disgusting genocide to go almost unchecked.
I think papigiulio’s point is a good one and worth discussing.

We can thank the likes of Bush and Blair for weakening the United Nations to the point of no meaning. The UN used to wield a fair amount of threat. Add Putin's plus the Chinese games that have ridiculed UN sessions.
Non-intervention, whilst seemingly reducing escalation of war, would have meant the Nazis ruling Europe and Serbians creating genocide in the Balkans.

Oh please... our anger should be directed at the CIA, MI6, Mossad, .... they are the ones with most blood on their hands.
TigersTokyoDome
Raw Beer, whilst I do not disagree with your point about the CIA, Mossad etc how on earth can you dismiss what Assad's regime did to civilains, mostly chiildren and women? Cut off from aid with the Syrian Army bombing them daily. And excusing Putin?? Putin is not even involved in Syria's internal issues - his crime is worst because he bombed Syrian civilians and protected Assad's genocide in return for global power games.
Toasted Heretic
All of them and Assad and Putin. Syria is an utter mess, and it's far from simple - the number of players involved in the conflict and the dangerous games they're playing.
Not to mention a generation of traumatised and messed-up kids. Who knows what the future will hold for them, for us?

The irony is that most of the people who favor starting wars in other countries typically never serve in the military, and they are also for strict immigration policies.
If you stop starting wars for geopolitical reasons then people would stop immigrating to your countries both legally and illegally.

Atrocities by Serbian forces accelerated after the intervention began.

Japan this is why having a normal military again is important. Japan can play a bigger role in the safety and defence of civilians being murdered.
Our military has a dark history in the past, but we can do better and use this force for good like we do in Japan for disaster relief. Germany with a much darker history than Japan already has a normal military and plays a bigger role on the world stage and in Europe. It's time to pull your own weight Japan.

Would you trust those criminal incompetents in the LDP with more powerful military forces and less restrictions on what they could do with them?
Germany also has a better record for purging itself of the leadership responsible for its past crimes and atoning for them. Japan is led by the children or grandchildren of the men who led it to disaster in the 1940s, and they are determined to whitewash as much wrongdoing as they possibly can. German leaders pay their respects at places were the victims of the Nazis are commemorated. I seriously doubt if Shinzo Abe would ever do the same thing.

@Jimizo
Let's have some perspective. Several German companies built Saddam's chemical/biological infrastructure in the 1980s. Several other -- GERMAN -- companies shipped over 1,000 tons of ingredients for mustard gas, sarin, tabun, etc. to Iraq. From that point, Iraq's OWN researchers and military made extensive efforts to develop their OWN program.
US companies at the time sold Iraq pesticides and steel tubes, which could be converted for military use.
As for conventional "arms," Iraq's arsenal was nearly all Eastern bloc.
There's a disturbing trend in the West - among people who should know better - for knee-jerk anti-Americanism, while dismissing or shielding the real culprits.

So terribly sad. Blessed are the peacemakers.
