Except that there has been no warming of the seas whatsoever, even the El Nino predicted to occur last year failed to materialise. Models of course predict warming, as they predicted back in 1996 that the earth would be 1.2 degrees warmer in 2015. But as of now, there is been absolutely no increase in earth's temperature since 1996, meaning that the models were wrong. I don't expect the models predicting ocean temperatures to be any more accurate. The recent study by the IPCC's Michael Mann showing models which indicated the Atlantic currents were slowing was rejected, apparently Mann didn't know that these currents have been carefully instrument-measured for the past 15 years, and have shown absolutely no change at all during that period.
Once again, any headline which uses the word "may" to predict a future event is not worthy to be published. "May" or "may not" mean exactly the same thing. We only use these terms when we don't really know what is going to happen. The stock market "may" crash next year, but then again, it "may not".

mercury levels of the oceans are rising, literally and figuratively.

Similarly, cod stocks around Britain are rising. Cod is the most popular choice for fish and chips, not haddock.
Another sensationalist, inaccurate headline.
wtfjapan
what a load of BS, there are plenty of different fish both saltwater and fresh that taste fantastic lightly battered and fried. potatoes wont be going extinct anytime soon

From what I've seen you can get a variety different fish from the chipper these days, some of it advertised as from sustainable supplies. Chip shop owners are traders first, as long as their product is tasty I'm sure they'll adapt and survive.

@Elizabeth Heath:
Most popular or most common? Give me fresh, moist haddock in crispy batter any day.

This means if there is not fish and chips, all British people have to eat is Indian food and pizza.
