Zuckerberg is getting it from both sides. Warren from the Left and then there is the whistleblower leak of him telling his Washington Post lackeys to pump out more anti-Trump propaganda. Couldn’t happen to a better guy.

So the Democrats were freaking out about the Russians using Facebook to get Trump elected and Warren thinks its a good idea to make an enemy of the guy who actually owns Facebook?

Blocking or suspending accounts for speech can prompt complaints of political bias or censorship, but a hands-off approach may be viewed as a free pass to politicians like Trump.

Regardless of what you think of Warren or Trump's politics, Facebook is evil. The people running it know how it can be abused and are happy to openly sell that ability to anyone who wants it.

The only thing I'd miss from FB would be contact with family and friends across the world.

As someone whose politics are a mixed bag of conservatism and liberalism, and as someone who has posted on both conservative leaning and liberal leaning sites, I suggest that you may have what I call "Conservative Victim Complex". EVERYBODY that has anything real to say gets censored on Facebook. I probably got censored more than anyone because I don't do or pander to the stupid happy delusions so many people in this world are prone to. People act like they want the truth but as soon as their stupid delusion bubble gets burst they get mad.

Anyway, it should be illegal for these companies to delete any content from their servers. They should have the power to flag the content and that's it. Then you can choose to filter out that flagged content (blue pill) or view it (red pill). I am a red pill type of guy.

In fact I think Facebook only cares about Facebook. They will do or say whatever it takes to keep hit and post counts up. They talk out both sides of their mouth to try and please as many people as they can. They want the exact amount of controversy to keep the conversation going while not breaching the point that people quit or illegal threats of harm flood in. They don't want legal trouble. They don't especially want this political candidate or the other one. What they want are clicks.

Aside from rolling over money from her senate campaign to her presidential one, Warren doesn't seem to have thought any of her policy stances or strategies through.

I think you don't understand basic psychology. You are basically asking people to embrace being a hermit. Facebook is not the only site collecting data and those that aren't probably aren't being used by your friends.

And trying to get your friends to switch platforms is nigh impossible. You either follow along or sit alone by the roadside.

Facebook is operating in the public domain and needs to be responsible and held responsible by weight of law, just like all other entities going or gone socially irresponsible. This is a job for the government, just as busting up monopolies in the past was. This is exactly the reason why we even have governments.

Society has rules. You are not allowed to sell wondercures for uncurable diseases, even though that would make lots of money. People who would do that are evil.

Facebook could simply restrict itself to using posts by friends and family to get you to read conventional advertising. However, it has not chosen to do so. Instead it gives us "Win prizes in this free soccer prediction contest" or "look at this example of animal cruelty", which are actually both gateways into a data mining operation that will hit you with expertly designed and targeted political propaganda. This is exactly what the Vote Leave campaign did on Facebook before the Brexit referendum. Facebook are not selling you to an advertiser as a consumer, they are selling you as a voter, supposedly an actor of free will, to be manipulated using the huge amount of information it has on you, provided by yourself and every friend you have on there. I think making money in this way is evil.

itsonlyrocknroll one point I guess I should have made clearer is that social ostracization is the first and greatest concern to typical human decision making in a society where food, water and shelter are easy to come by. And when most people declare they refuse to use Facebook or some other thing literally everyone else in the group is using, they have just taken several jumps into the omega realm. You will get odd looks and you may as well be a luddite. If you want to have friends you best bet at that point might be to sell all your belongings and join the Amish. I exaggerate a bit but its close to that serious. The human need for social belonging and the ease with which they can lose it cannot be understated. Its the core reason people don't commit crimes for example far and above the simple fear of formal punishment. Losing friends and/or spouses is huge.

Besides which, when all social information in your circles is funneled through Facebook or another site you refuse to use, how do you get your information? Try and turn one of your friends into your personal assistant who calls you with every grain of information? That is a good way to lose a friend as well.

If all your friends are conversing via Facebook or other but you abstain, you will become the fifth wheel. And then you become an outcast. Its not a joke and its not even mysterious.
