So the best the West can probably do is to gain concessions on reform from Assad in return for helping halt the violence.

Syria is basically a unified country (now) pushing the rebels out. People are arming themselves so these terrorists (rebels) can never come back and gain a foothold. You will still see the Western backed terrorist attacks against Syria, -but eventually these will fade also.

This same type of scenario happened in Iran also. --> Thankfully it never got as bad as Syria.

Well, the West was aiming to displace a thorn in its side in the form of an Iranian-allied Syria, but the lack of foresight backfired, just like with Iraq.

Now it's a total calamity, and the only way out has to be elections, which Assad will probably win.

So the best the West can probably do is to gain concessions on reform from Assad in return for helping halt the violence.

That's what they should have done in the first place, instead of trying to discredit him.

This is the failure of the Western Intelligence to properly assessed its original support strategy of this uprising and the possible outcome.

In order justify/sell a tyranny to the populace you must have the chaos (war) first. Almost all Syrians now support their Gov and Gov troops. The foreign-supported rebels are the outsiders. At the beginning there were some people unhappy with the Gov, but now the rebels are so out of control they have little to no support. -Even the West does not want to support them even with all the media hyping the rebels as liberators.

I don't understand this "war" either. Was it that important to push the Russian Navy port out of Syria? Is a new pipeline from Iraq their want. Physical Gold holders in Turkey that shun the fiat banks? --> Chaos in Syria could bring instability to Turkey which is like the South Korea of the middle east in growth.

Syria opposition group consists of various factions that sworn allegiance to its own course. The West should have known this prior to the commencement of uprising. This is the failure of the Western Intelligence to properly assessed its original support strategy of this uprising and the possible outcome.

Even for argument sake that the uprising is successful what will then become of Syria having these various factions that are not unified accept of overthrowing the current regime. The future outcome would be replacing one rogue leader with possible another or for worse case scenario a continue war between various faction for many years to come. The ordinary Syrians are the one suffers.

The real story here is that the Western-backed Rebels are losing and Obama/Nato are getting desperate. As always the civilians are paying the highest price. People should not be supporting this type of media and politics.

“We want to know who we are dealing with,” French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius

Wasnt that was the most stupid remarks the west has ever made!?
