White house threatens defense bill veto over Confederate base names

I think that the USA has some bigger issues than this to worry about at the moment and the name changes sound like a bit of a knee-jerk reaction.

Take it off the table for now and put it back on the table post November.

Once more Trump's appealing to white nationalists in his base trying to further divide the country, once more Trump's attempting to take attention away from his ongoing failures in dealing with the pandemic and a collapsed economy.

The names of traitorous bigoted generals are more important than the lives of brave, honorable servicemen!!!

He thinks more of Confederate soldiers than our soldiers.

When Colin Kaepernick takes a knee during the anthem I am sure military base names are the first thing on his mind.

Since the Confederacy was not allowed to leave the Union the Union owned its history. They were American soldiers. Many served in the U.S. armed forced AFTER the Civil War. Anyone who disagrees should insist the South be given independence RIGHT NOW. The Union wanted to own it so shut up and own it already!

I think you forget that the blacks and minorities have a voice now, we are not in 1860s anymore.

Anyone who sides with the confederacy is welcome to get out of US right now.

Their goal was NOT to topple the United States. Their goal was to achieve independence. This is like a wife trying to walk out the door and get a divorce and the husband knocks her teeth out and tells her she is staying. Traitor?? No, they did not assist actual enemies of the United States to attack the United States either. They were trying to get away. They were on the defensive. Those states joined the Union voluntarily but were not allowed to leave. What is America? The Hotel California? Canada gave Quebec a vote on independence. The U.K. gave Scotland a vote on independence. Talk independence in America and get crushed. The traitors and enemies to America as embodied in the Declaration of Independence were all in the North!

Keep the bases and statues as they are. Clearly Americans have not learned anything from them yet.
