That’s like adding all the people from France and Britain, said Steve A. Camarota

Thank god we only have to worry about the Hispanics.

Just kidding. ;)

Articles like this seem to actually speak more about what people define as "white." I've always thought of Hispanics as being white. Obviously not because they share the same traits as our European brothers, but mostly because when I was younger the choices were "White, Black, Asian, Native American." When faced with those choices, Hispanics become white. Now I notice most forms or places where you see races listed will have Hispanic.

super: FYI, we don't really call ourselves Hispanic in our own company. We are just as diverse as Europeans; which is why I never really liked the term Hispanic. Mexicans are Mexicans, Puerto Ricans are Puerto Ricans, and Cubans are Cubans.

I wonder, though, what really is the point of the article. This has been known for a long time. It really shouldn't be so abrupt as "whites". When thinking of whites, I usually only count those that are Anglo-Saxon as white. I also don't consider African Americans and Africans to be in the same category. I don't know why so many put Hispanics into one group. We are just as diverse as Europeans are and we, just like they do, have rivalries and discourse.

If I am correct, what is considered white is basically the world's minority.

Before moving to Japan, I already felt like a minority in my neighborhood in Los Angeles. It would be days at a time between "sightings" of other whites like myself. My wife, who is not white, used to joke about it..."Look honey, a white guy, go say hi".

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Totally meaningless.

Does someone like Obama count as all black, or half black, half white? Does Tiger Woods count as half Asian? Or is it more complicated than that? Or simpler?

And what does it matter?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

it matters to all the "affirmative action" people in college and their cushy jobs. As for the race selection thing: I select them all since that will improve my chances -and if they challenge me I get hostile and threaten ACLU action.

It should be equal opportunity for all -but the liberals will never allow it.

Eventually they will drop their racist policies since it's demeaning, costly, and counter-productive. I will take nationalism over racism any day.

badsey: AA's start was legit. Granted, there are many who abuse it and few challange those abuses. Its helped me and my brother at times in gettng city wide contracts in Chicago.

However, don't you think there will be a time when AA will benefit "whites" (I hate that term btw)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Big deal.

I was raised by a Grandmother and Mother who used to tell me often, it makes no difference the color of people's skin. It's the heart that matters. < :-)

Come live in my city, where if you don't know Spanish, you're unable to live here. English is practically a 2nd language here, kind of obscure.

Sensei, I once has a similar experience myself driving through the Echo Park section of LA. At a red light an agitated blond-haired guy yelled through the window, "[You're white] you've gotta speak English!"

He just wanted to know how to get downtown or something. But all the Latinos waiting for the bus professed not to understand him. I think claiming not to understand English was a means to avoid having him ask them to help him out with the bus fare.

"higher birth rates among minority residents"

So, according to this logic, when whites become the minority, they'll have higher birth rates, thus becoming the majority again, right?

Sorry, I don't understand. You don't like the term "Hispanic"? Is it different than using the term "white" to describe large groups of people also from different countries?

Betzee: I once has a similar experience myself driving through the Echo Park section of LA. At a red light an agitated blond-haired guy yelled through the window, "[You're white] you've gotta speak English!"

That probably never happened.

There will be over 200 million white people in the US by 2042. If you don't like being a minority where you live, move to Wyoming or Vermont, where the white population approaches 100%. Of course, the boredom and lack of diversity factor also approaches 100%.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Meaningless, most of our friends were mixed race when we were living in the US. In our old neighborhood the populace was totally integrated. The only thing that determined whether you lived there was your pocketbook. Most major cities are not "majority white" so I don't think anybody is really in for some kind of shock here. If you want a homogeneous society move to Japan of course you'll still be a minority.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

SuperLib - That probably never happened.

That's a pretty harsh comment. You calling Betzee a liar?

With the rate of hispanic growth in the US, I can see being the minority in a few decades.

Plus the hispanics are you younger racial unit. I was watching a program on health insurance in the US and the median age of hispanics in this country was like 27 years old, whlie the median age of non-hispanics was like 38 years old. Their age group will be pumping out babies like mad.

Then life goes on. Another century or two, it'll be another race. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Totally meaningless.

I would not be so sure. There may be more to race than some are willing to admit. However, race hate is meaningless, and so are overt attempts to control the mixing of races. Ultimately, it is not a bad thing, but subtle things may be lost if races also disappear. And racial demographics will play a hand in the course of the country, like it or not, therefore, it has meaning in that resect also.

I believe the term hispanic is taking on a new meaning in America. In the American mind, it is more like mestizo, a mix of Spanish and native American ancestry. Many Americans don't realize that the upper class of Mexico and other Latin countries are quite white. That is because they are not the ones immigrating to America in droves.

At present, the term seems to be in a sort of limbo.

SuperLib, I had my roof replaced by a company a couple of years ago that employeed almost only Mexicans. When they were ripping off the roof, I came out to ask a question. Not a single person spoke English or at least they wouldn't answer me. I had to call the person who set up the work to get a response.

Will I be surprised that I'm the minority in a few years, nah. < :-)

How will the Democratic Party survive if playing the race card becomes a meaningless gambit?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

" don't know why so many put Hispanics into one group. We are just as diverse as Europeans are and we, just like they do, have rivalries and discourse."

I believe Hispanics are grouped together based on Spanish being the spoken language, although the official reason would be geographical. The same type of general grouping is applied to Asian-Americans, and as we all know by now, Asians are just as diverse as any other group and ideology wise maybe even more so. There they don't share the same language but do share geography.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

undecidedbout08 - Explain how the democratic party plays the race card. I see where more and more non-whites are at least considering the republican noninee John McCain. I see John McCain courting the hispanics from Columbia to the Canadian border. < :-)

obama ran for president too soon. He needs to wait until 2042. Then he'll get the keys to the West Wing without any problem.

There's only one party in America that believes in 'reparations' for the descendants of slaves.

There is only one party in America that believed in busing.

There is only one party in America that champions 'bilingual' education.

There is only one party in America with a former VP choice admitting that her party's current presidential nominee would not be where he is if he were white...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I agree that it's not so much about race as about national heritage. The factors of national heritage are more about common language, shared history, and shared values.

This is why the recent influx of Mexicans is a serious threat to our nation. Most of the Mexicans who've been entering illegally don't desire to be a part of the nation of the U.S. - they want the benefits, but remain committed to their Mexican nationality.

There are many Mexican immigrants from past generations who became citizens, learned the common language, and have truly become part of the nation. However, the recent influx are actually antagonistic toward the U.S. nation - even after the 2nd and 3rd generations (I suspect our welfare state has contributed to this). Many appear to have no desire to assimilate or make any effort to do so.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I haven't heard either candidate talk about reparations.

And busing hurt us I guess. (Too bad republican white children had to go to school with democratic black children.)

I'm not hearing bilingual eduation being talked about by either candidate. But if the change comes as forecasted, it might happen.

This is a personal opinion, not a party opinion.: There is only one party in America with a former VP choice admitting that her party's current presidential nominee would not be where he is if he were white...

Sounds like my friend undecidedbout08 is a little racist. Sounds like these items, even if they were true, bothers him/her very much.

I guess if your opinions are correct, we'll see reparations someday with the changing population shifts? We'll have bilingual education as soon as the Mexican's take a larger majotity?

Some things will change.

In the last 100 years:

Doing away with segragated facilities. Women have the right to vote. Blacks have the right to vote. Equal rights for all employees.

Get ready, more changes will be coming.

Barack is an agent for change. Go Barack!! < :-)

adaydream:

Sounds like my friend undecidedbout08 is a little racist. Sounds like these items, even if they were true, bothers him/her very much.

You are the bigot. What is racist about any of undecided's claims?

Is it his disagreement with reparations? Is it his disagreement with busing? Is it his idea that the nation should use a common language? Is it his claim that Ferraro admits her party's candidate wouldn't be where he is if he were white?

I'd like to see some actual evidence and warrants for your insulting claim.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I didn't bring these items up. undecidedbout08 did.

He's the one who sounds bothered.

But life goes on.

Change will occur and we whites who have been blessed to be the race of the majority, who actually mistreated people in the past, will have to make adjustments and we will become the race of the minority. Thank goodness civil rights and equality have been made laws of the land. We wouldn't like to have to live under the same conditions we forced others endure. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Nice dodge. You should be a politician.

You called another poster a RACIST. That's a serious claim IMO.

Now please answer the question: Why do you claim undecided is a racist because of the items he brought up?

Is it possible for someone to have a dissenting opinion from you regarding these issues and not be a racist? Are you unable or unwilling to debate this in a civil manner?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I've given my opinion sdmsec. You have yours.

White America won't be White America some day, soon. I guess we'll need more Black and Hispanic politicians in the future.

Have a great day. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

adaydream,

A simple apology for throwing unfounded, inflamatory insults into this discussion would suffice. I know we all jump ahead of our thoughts on these forums at times.

Again, I'm not debating your opinion on race and it's effect on the U.S. I'm claiming that it's in very poor taste and insulting to call someone a racist without any evidence to back it up.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sounds like my friend undecidedbout08 is a little racist.

Opinion was made. No apology required.

Have a good day. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'll have to agree w/adaydream on this one. Reading through undecided and sdmsec's prior posts, they definitely come off sounding like some whites I know. But I also understand where they are coming from. Being from a southern state, i have had to fight hard to remove racial thoughts from situations where they were irrelavent, which is sometimes hard to do. Fortunately, in America, most of the people who think like this are from semi-affluent to affluent backgrounds or from some really backward locals (see the kid who is suing his school system to wear the flag of the confederacy b/c "I'm proud of my heritage.")

0 ( +0 / -0 )

daydream: That's a pretty harsh comment. You calling Betzee a liar?

Opinion was made. No apology required.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Chessnutroastin,

Nice attempt to link my opinions with those of undecided and the kid suing his school system. However, my claim is that undecided's views on reparations, busing, bilingual education, and Ferraro's opinions aren't evidence that he's a racist.

It's sad that people can't have substantial discussion on these things without having risking being slandered.

I'm curious as to what in my opinions about national heritage you take issue with.

adaydream,

I suppose if I supply my opinion that you're a racist, homophobic, raping, idiot that I shouldn't feel the need to provide any evidence either?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Cool SuperLib. < :-)

Can you truly not see how slanted and bigoted this prior post is? I understand that some people are never able to overcome the fundamentals they are taught as children, but you'll have to try and view yourself in a different light if you want to have intelligent discourse with me.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

sdmsec - Compared to the things I get from the republicans and those who so perfusely profess not to be republicans, your opinion doesn't bother me in the least.

But there are a lot of one particular party that will have to change their opinions and platforms, if they intend to get the voters of the future.

This country will change and either you will be accepting the change or you'll be fighting it. We've been in a process of change in the South for the past 150 years. Bring it on. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Maybe I spoke to soon. Both both parties will have to change drastically. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So do you dispute my definition of nation?

Do you dispute my claim that most of the Mexicans entering illegally are receiving the benefits of our government's social programs?

Do you dispute my claim that there has been a recent influx of Mexicans entering the U.S. illegally?

Do you dispute my claim that most of the recent influx of Mexicans identify with and celebrate their Mexican nationality and, in fact, denegrate the U.S. nation?

Do you dispute that there have been Mexican immigrants in the past who have become part of the U.S. nation?

Do you dispute that many of the 2nd and 3rd generation of the recent illegal immigrants from Mexico haven't assimilated or even attempted to?

If you can't understand these questions or understand that they are very relevant to the news article then I'm afraid that I truly can't have intelligent discourse with you - as that would require intelligence on your part.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Is it good news or bad news. They must be doing something good in USA,with population going up, to 439 million in year 2050.

Wow, that is increase of 140 million by 4 decades. Imagine how much goodies you could sell/buy in USA.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So do you dispute my definition of nation? I'm not particularly interested how you define a nation.

Do you dispute my claim that most of the Mexicans entering illegally are receiving the benefits of our government's social programs? If you mean the education system, free medical clinics, then no. If you mean welfare, social security, disability, then yes (I work for these agencies, so spare me your uninformed opinions).

Do you dispute my claim that there has been a recent influx of Mexicans entering the U.S. illegally? Are you still in that group of people that call all Spanish speakers in the US 'Mexicans?' Please allow me to educate you that Mexico's economy has grown by leaps and bounds and their GDP is in the top 15 in the world. The vast majority of illegal immigrants in the US are from South and Central American countries.

Do you dispute my claim that most of the recent influx of Mexicans identify with and celebrate their Mexican nationality and, in fact, denegrate the U.S. nation? I'd say most people celebrate their nationality and Mexicans are no exceptions. Most of the ones I know (we have a lot in my home state) are kind, considerate hard working people thankful for any job. Maybe you are privy to disparaging remarks that others aren't, but I'd guess it's more likely your imagination.

Do you dispute that there have been Mexican immigrants in the past who have become part of the U.S. nation? No. Duh.

Do you dispute that many of the 2nd and 3rd generation of the recent illegal immigrants from Mexico haven't assimilated or even attempted to? Yes. By 3rd generation, close to 100% speak English with an American accent but still can speak Spanish as it is the preferred language in their parents or grandparents home.

"If you can't understand these questions or understand that they are very relevant to the news article then I'm afraid that I truly can't have intelligent discourse with you - as that would require intelligence on your part." hahahahaha! I'll have to start charging you something to explain such common sense things to you in the future.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Whoa....

How can this be true? Do you dispute my claim that there has been a recent influx of Mexicans entering the U.S. illegally?

Didn't the republicans have put up their virtual fence along the sorthern border? Shouldn't be any Mexican's coming in this country. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This article is only important to those who have a preoccupation with race (ie. Liberals and the Democrat party).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Betzee...there's plenty of those types in LA. Be careful.

adaydream...I dispute that its recent. It's been going on for a long time. I do have mixed feelings though. If I was a Mexican with a family to feed, and could only find work standing outside a Home Depot Store in LA, I'd probably do the same. On the other hand, don't use the States to do whatever you want, and then run back to your home country to avoid justice.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

First of all thanks for taking the time to respond and discuss this.

I'm not particularly interested how you define a nation.

I hope you'll allow me to quickly explain why I think it's important. The idea of nation is central to being unified by some common ground. Without this unity we'll be - well, divided. I fear that the U.S. is becoming more and more Balkanized. I use that term purposefully to emphasize the importance of having unity as a nation. National heritage is not restricted to certain races. As we would both agree, there have been many diverse people who've immigrated to the U.S. in the past. Most of these immigrants have become Americans (part of the U.S. nation). Without unity of language, shared heritage, and ideals we'll eventually become like the Balkans. After the large immigrations from Italy, Ireland, and Eastern Europe there followed a clamping down on immigration that allowed the existing citizens and the new citizens a chance to absorb one another. The current rates (and random nature of the illegal entry) aren't allowing this period of adjustment for the newcomers or the current citizens.

If you mean the education system, free medical clinics, then no. If you mean welfare, social security, disability, then yes.

You got it: education, free lunches for the children, free health care. Also, the children of illegal aliens are given the standard social entitlements.

Are you still in that group of people that call all Spanish speakers in the US 'Mexicans?'

You attempt once again to stereotype me. Obviously there are many Hondurans, Salvadorans, Nicaraguans, etc. entering both Mexico and U.S. However, the vast majority of illegal immigrants in the U.S. by nationality is the Mexicans. You really seem stuck on the idea that I'm racist which just isn't true. I don't value a person based on their race. I am concerned about the effects of illegal immigration on our nation.

Most of the ones I know (we have a lot in my home state) are kind, considerate hard working people thankful for any job.

I've met kind, considerate, hard working people in my home state, too. Most were American citizens of many different races; others were probably illegal aliens. Most people are fairly decent all around. However, this is irrelevant to the points I've made regarding illegal immigration.

Think of it this way: Hooray! You're a nice person. Come on in and live in my house, use my medicine and eat my children's food!

Maybe you are privy to disparaging remarks that others aren't, but I'd guess it's more likely your imagination.

May Day celebrations. Look for the videos the main-stream media wouldn't broadcast.

Yes. By 3rd generation, close to 100% speak English with an American accent

It's a good start. While a common language certainly doesn't guaranty unity and common goodwill the lack of a common language tends to cause division and friction.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't feel like you are a rascist at all. I don't know you at all other thaqn what you post. What I do see is that you and I have different views on immigration to the US. I'll agree with you that there is a problem with illegals coming into the country. Although I favor continuing to try to boost the economies of our southern neighbors, I think we can not stimulate every economy in the Americas. I agree that we have to pursue other methods to curb illegal immigration. What I disagree with you about is how the ones here are treated. There are currently 15-20 million illegals in this country by most estimates. Some studies show that these people make up 60% of our service industry or more. These immigrants have become an indispensible part of our workforce, have established many roots, and are not going anywhere according to this article. So what needs to be done? I believe McCain was on the right track with some form of amnesty for the productive ones with jobs. I have no problem providing the very basic human needs for people that work. I resent lazy people who exploit our welfare system (which needs major reform). I don't see our country become divided or Balkanized at all. In fact, I believe the primary reason that our country has continued to be as strong as it is is the immigration to our country. True, many of these people have poor educations in their poor countries and have trouble learning a foreign language, but that doesn't mean they're unintelligent. Their kids perform well on standardized testing given the opportunity. You may really roll your eyes when you read this, but I believe in educating the minorities in this country. Instead of being born into middle or upper class white family, what if you were the smart kid born to hispanic immigrants? Or the descendent of slaves who were denied education or literacy for almost 400 years? Were were your great-great grandparents from? Mine were from all over Europe. And I'm sure they faced all kinds of people that tried to keep them down or thought they were taking a slice of their pie. Sorry I rambled on so long.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Of course, the boredom and lack of diversity factor also approaches 100%.

Sorry my race bores you. You are right though, the lack of racial conflict can be boring. Its good to find the demographic that entertains you. I mean, you must be bored as hell over there in Japan despite all the technological advances and great television, but hey, thier all Japanese so thier all boring right?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry, I didn't mean whites are boring. I myself am one of course. I just meant that people who have a problem with ethnic diversity always have the option of moving somewhere more homogeneous and congruent with their own ethnicity. And yes, seeing only Japanese (or ainu) in Hokkaido for months and months on end is enough to make you smile when you meet a foreigner with native English skills.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Betzee...there's plenty of those types in LA. Be careful.

Thank you for your concern but I survived 11 years in LA. Though I would never move back, I also consider the experiences I had there, and that was just one of many, to have contributed to my intellectual development as much as any schooling.

It's true, in some of the working class immigrant neighborhoods most of the resident Anglos are dead-beats or guys with obvious substance abuse problems. The type you hurry by going in and out of convenience stores. But most of them were too far gone to attempt to make an ethnic connection anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

If you want a homogeneous society move to Japan of course you'll still be a minority.

I'd rather be a white minority in Japan than be a white minority in the US when the time comes. Anyone who believes that there's no differences between the races is either living in denial or brainwashed by those who preach such nonsense. There are tremendous differences in culture and values among races. So there's nothing wrong with preferring to associate with one race over another. Most do anyway.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

helter: the key word is brain washed. I never bought into it the idea that one group is above or below the the other but politicians want it that way. I am happy I am not pure Cuban but both Cuban and European (Italian) decent. I do believe there is going to one hell of a clash soon and I also believe it is not going to be white against black, as the media likes to make it out to be.

there's nothing wrong with preferring to associate with one race over another. Most do anyway." Birds of a feather flock together but I never really liked hanging with my own kind especially when it comes to women.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

superlid: Sorry, I don't understand. You don't like the term "Hispanic"? Is it different than using the term "white" to describe large groups of people also from different countries?"

I just don't like the idea of group people together. one of my main gripes with religion as you so often see. Its one reason I guess I wasn't too much into team sports, where I was into individual sports. The difference is that Hispanic as a word is ridiculous. Sure, most are speaking the same thing, but thinking and culture and even the usage of Spanish is different. If you think Hispanics are united, put a few Cubans, Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, and Salvadorians into the same room and see what happens. The outcome is much different if you put a few English and Irish into the same room.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

California has a huge deficit and it will be getting bigger due to inflation, and their schools are some of the worst. A welfare society doesn't work and the rich have outsourced many of the businesses = the big cities are left in neglect.

Would Henry Ford turn his back on Detroit? -no they built these cities thru innovation.

Affirmative Action doesn't make sense in English -it never did. All I know is that when I went to college these goons would absolutely stare at you when you walk by, like they were against you. They were FemBots. You could almost feel the hate emminating from the office.

I like Obama and I would like to see the rebirth of the cities and good corporations. Expect to see your taxes rise due to the inflation though. I also like merit based systems and our schools need to improve.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am not sure who decides these race labels. Who decides who or what is white? Is Maria Carey white? Tiger Woods? The Obamessiah? I think the politically correct media and Democrat party should get off this obsession with race politics.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Affirmative Action doesn't make sense in English" The reason its there does, but I don't think it should have included all minorities. Like all things there are pros and cons. White people however do have a legitimate grip against it but their gripe shouldn't be against those receiving it, it should be against those rich white politicians who passed such laws who would never ever step foot in places like Detroit these days.

The US already has towns and areas of large cities where whites are the minority, yet they would be eligible for affirmative action and I think that needs to change, especially in a place like Detroit.

I tend to think the article is intention is to cause fear or discontent but the real factor in whites losing anything in the US is due to their own kind who are politicians. It is they who have made schools teach guilt instead of living side by side. It is they who have pushed to allow companies outsource off shore, it is they who say poor and white = bad, poor and minority = innocent.

As for Obama helping this situation, ask yourself this: do you think he is happy being half white or would he prefer to be 100% black? I feel that he would prefer the later and no, I don't believe he looks at things 50-50 any longer; I thought he would but not as of recent. The economy is going down and yet the US makes sure they have to let in millions upon million of immigrants. How does the government intend on making native born tax payers pay as their numbers get smaller and smaller yet allow immigrant these days to learn, operate, and conduct civil affairs in their former country's language, get free health care, education, and in-state tuition - something they refuse to give a vet?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I just don't like the idea of group people together. one of my main gripes with religion as you so often see. Sure, most are speaking the same thing, but thinking and culture and even the usage of Spanish is different.

I understand what you're saying. The purpose of the article is to divide people by race, tho. I don't think they're trying to say that all Hispanics are the same or all whites are the same. I'm sure a Japanese person wouldn't like being called Chinese and a Chinese person wouldn't like to be called Japanese, but when you're talking about dividing a nation of 300 million by race then they'd probably agree that they're Asian.

I didn't know if you were objecting to the general practice of grouping, or just objecting to the word they were using to describe the group.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am objecting to the general practice of grouping. What group is my kid going to be in? Euro-America/Carrib-American/Oriental with a touch of African and Native American (Tiano) plus be considered "ha-fu" in Japan?

Bad enough we are still have groups based on income. I really wish we could go forward to a hundred or two hundred years and forget what group we originate from and deal with the real aliens who will arrive.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Aha! This is why some say America is losing it's grip on being a world power!! I get it now.

some of you guys need to look on the brighter side of things. For starters, since most of the increase is going to come from the likes of me, you can count on more Salsa and less rap. Finer women instead of those cow types. More Macho men for the ladies, not those video wannabes. Everyone will start dancing better and the US can catch up to Canada and become a multi-lingual country.

Where ability is given priority over appearance is what made USA a superpower. If they give that up so goes down with superpower status with it.

This article is only important to those who have a preoccupation with race (ie. Liberals and the Democrat party).

But it was important enough for you to post, wasn't it?

I guess Republicans are only preoccupied with race when they're trying to suppress the minority vote?

A lot of posters seem not to appreciate the value of demography. While it's true there are an increasing number of people of mixed race who don't easily fit into one category, demographers still want to collect the data (which is never a perfection reflection of what you want to study).

In the 1990s there was a ballot initiative in California to remove racial classifications from all state forms. Those who proposed it felt we were ready to move into a society where race didn't matter. But it does in ways we need to plan for, i.e., different fertility rates, predisposition to specific diseases, etc. Luckily it was voted down.

Non American posters ask which party makes demographics the issue, and the DNC 'chairperson' answers:

"If you look at folks of color, even women, they're more successful in the Democratic Party than they are in the "white", excuse me, the Republican Party."

---Howard Dean, August 14 2008.

There's no excuse for Dean.

A lot of posters seem not to appreciate the value of demography." I am going to defend the states here a bit. Other countries, like Brazil, Columbia, France, very rarely allow this information to come up in their media. Brazil is probably the most diverse country on the planet (80% of all African slaves wound up there)yet one would would never really know. They don't play the games that are played in the states.

undecided: while I am not going to give the repubs a whole lot of credit in race relations, I personally think the dems have been disgusting in the ways they have play race over the years. your post above proves me right when you have a rich fat white guy like Dean who has lived in a protected shell all his life has the nerve to come down and tries to tell people like it is. Notice, he'll go into low income areas, sure, but he makes sure which street not to cross..

"a rich fat white guy like Dean who has lived in a protected shell all his life has the nerve to come down and tries to tell people like it is. Notice, he'll go into low income areas, sure, but he makes sure which street not to cross.."

That's why he has a Ph.D in front of his name. And you?

"If you look at folks of color, even women, they're more successful in the Democratic Party than they are in the white, excuse me, the Republican Party."

Is this statement so incorrect or unfair? I have heard that most American blacks tend to vote Democrat, and that when black votes are quashed, Republicans tend to win, if you can call that a victory.

How many black or mixed race presidential candidates have the Republicans fielded? The Democrats? Its all in the numbers. Just dont place blame on one party and think you have solved everything. People have gravitated to a party because of the issues just as much or more than they have been rejected because of race. Basically non-white Democrats are there because they chose to be.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Basically non-white Democrats are there because they chose to be.

And that means that they were attracted to one party, repelled by the other, or a combi of both. But it still stands that the Democrats are known for being more multi-racial than the Republicans. That simple fact carries no blame. Blame may or may not be warranted however.

That's why he has a Ph.D in front of his name. And you?" Man, i can get that in a few years and I ain't even a rich fat white guy like Dean who has lived in a protected shell all his life nor do I have the nerve to come up town to tell people like it is. Notice, I can go into low income areas but I bet you can't!

If you think that having a Ph.D really makes a person better than the next guy, then you deserve to live under this fat rich blancito altos and have him control you life.

The plot will be successful soon! All whites in America will be a minority, muhahahahahaha!

What the heck and who the heck cares about this report. You have to be simple minded if this really means a hill of beans. These kind of reports make, the simpler folks of the world worried.

It makes one wonder why so many different race reports have been coming out lately. Or am I just paying more attention to these kinds of reports than I used too?

By 2050, whites will make up 46 percent of the population and blacks will make up 15 percent

Hm or am I correct? By 2050 Whites will make up 46 percent of the population.

Hm now how does that make whites not the majority? When Hispanics will make up 30 percent and Blacks 15 percent.

Let us do the math, Whites 46% , Blacks 15% , Hispanics 30% , Asians 9%.

By my math, now mind you this is my math. By 2050 Whites non-Hispanic will still be the majority.

I do not know about any one else`s math but if you have 46% and the next largest group has 30% doesnt that make the 46% the majority?

Hm that darn Yellow Journalism math is hell! Have to fuel that race fire if not then everyone may get along and then what do you have?

No more Fox News and a BLACK President! No! Not that, please say it is not so, a Black person as President!

Please this report is a joke and anyone that does not see through it needs to get some new glasses.

What does Fox News (cable - pay to view) have to do with this report?

When did the Left grow so terrified what they can't control or sanction?

When did the Left grow so terrified what they can't control or sanction?

What the heck does that have to do with the story?

The real question is, how do you feel about this report?

So how does this report make you feel, please be open and tell us your deep feelings? Do you feel sacred? Do you feel mad?

Or do you feel that this story has no bases and is just spreading hate?

BTW did I forget to mention that CNN is a bit too pinko? There make you happy?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The real question is, how do you feel about this report?

I really don't care.Having grown up in the States it hardly strikes me as news.

Or do you feel that this story has no bases and is just spreading hate

How does any stat affirming that America is far, far more racially integrated and tolerant than Europe, Canada or wherever it is you hail from constitute this imaginary 'hate speech' that Lefties and the America-obsessed always seem to see filling the airwaves, cyberspace and the deadwood media?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Actually I hail from Miami, lived in New London, Charleston SC, Kings Bay GA. Well you get the picture, I am an American.

The story it self is a story that makes it seem as though it really matter what percentage each race is in America. The only reason it is news is that some reporter decided that this type of story would sell.

To me this is a lame story that should only be used in a bird cage.

I dont consider nor have I ever considered myself to be a race in America. I have always considered myself to be an American. That is why I dislike stories that divide a people and bring out fears in them.

These kind of stories are not worth mentioning but they are mentioned because news outlets pass them out.

Some groups love them and in others in brings out fears. Usually those groups are the far right and the far left of each race. There are more legs when folks hear these stories.

I myself want to hear about what our politicians are doing with our money. I like to hear the truth even though these days the line between a lie and a truth are so thin due to it being an election year.

Hope we can get to the bread and butter of facts rather than the gray areas of fiction.

BTW I live in Japan now.

Brazil is probably the most diverse country on the planet (80% of all African slaves wound up there)yet one would would never really know. They don't play the games that are played in the states.

On the other hand, if you don't allow people to be tracked by race (albeit never perfectly) you'd never have studies showing the disparity between whites and other races. I just finished a book called "Freakonomics" where the writers used data from birth certificates in California to measure the progress of the babies over a 15-year period. If you eliminate race from someone's profile then you'd also lose data such as this...

Ummm no. The other nonwhite groups would be seen in combination, so you would need more than 50% to have a white majority.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Ok then, which group will have the majority in the US in 2050? Now please bear mind that I said group, and not as a whole. Now I was not talking about a simple majority. Back to you

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Trust me, it won't matter much, because the European-Americans still won't become the minority by much and they will still make up the largest single racial/ethnic group. But, most of all, it won't matter because they will still hold the overwhelming political, economical, and social powers in North America and these are what really counts, not just the size of an ethnic population. South Africa with apartheid rule under the whites who only made up about 10% of its poulation but controlling paractically everything over the 90% non-whites is a perfect example. And the whites are still the richest and the most powerful in South Africa, today, even after apartheid.

while the major of the Caucasian working there ass off, people of Latin America hop the border and mass reproduced on usa soil.

If the majority of Cacasians in America really did work their asses off, as you think, there wouldn't be a mass influx of Latin Americans crossing the U.S. border, because there won't be enough works for these people who are willing to work much harder than the white Americans, for much less pay.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Proudkoreanguy,

I do not think that would be the case. The US dollar (though weak as it is now) is still worth much more than most other currencies. They exchange that 1$ for however many (...insert currency type here....) and send it back home to feed their family for the day.

So, there is still plenty reason to sneak into the states for work.

Am I wrong?

So, there is still plenty reason to sneak into the states for work.

Am I wrong?

Nope, you are not wrong - at least not completely. But, when there are employers in America willing to pay only what the illegal immigrant workers are willing to work for or consumers who are unwiiling to pay enough for products or services to support the livable wages for their fellow (legal) Americans, well, the results are predictable and Americans cannot have it both ways - not pay enough to their own that foreigners are willing to work for, then complain about the latter.

koroke at 02:07 AM JST - 19th August while the major of the Caucasian working there ass off, people of Latin America hop the border and mass reproduced on usa soil.

This is what I mean about reports like this not worth the paper they are written on. Koroke believes ,"people of Latin America hop the border and mass reproduced on usa soil.".

These kind of reports just spread fear in people. They are not worthy news. Just imagine how many more Koroke`s there are now in America because of this report.

FWIW: You need to check your math. 46% doesn't constitue a "majority" - it's a "plurality". A majority means greater than 50%.

I think what someone is trying to say is that all people not considered white are united. There is the assumed alliance between Hispanics and Blacks, although it is not what many think it is, but I don't know where Orientals fit.

Heard a case where people in the south would tell a Chinese American soldier he could drink from the white fountain but the Japanese American could not. I guess that is what they are trying to say.

I tend to think that reports such as these were put out there to insight fear in many, which is dangerous if you think about it. Can you really imagine if pure whites got together now at this point in time? It also is there to say hey, now that whites are nothing, racism will go away...........but, do you think people of different races will live happily ever after? Hell, people of different religions or langauges don't even get along.

Racist whites in USA (and there are quite a few closet-racists here in USA, trust me) will interpret the projection as a "wake up call" to further maintain their poltical and sociaoeconomical power by subtle means while trying to falsely comfort the minorities that they will be more empowered, so should not complain about the continuous glass-ceiling or exploitations that exist against the non-whites.

Patriotic Americans do not care someones ethnic background. We are above shallow feelings like that. People cannot understand how we intergrate so well and fairly.

I commend you for being among the very small minority of patriotic Americans who feel this way. I really do.

What is wrong with that! Nothing, I do not care about someones ethnic background. I know there are racists all around us, and I do mean all around us. The world is full of racists.
