What a tragedy Musk is! Clearly, he is a remarkably talented person, but that does not make him a good human. Sadly, those two traits do not always go hand-in-hand.

Musk is right to be aiming for life on Mars!

This planet is too toxic…

-13 ( +8 / -21 )

It's a real conundrum for right-wing 'free speech' types. How does a belief that jews are replacing us align with accusing anyone who criticises Zionist colonialism as anti-semitic ?

8 ( +14 / -6 )

That conspiracy theory holds that Jewish people and leftists are engineering the ethnic and cultural replacement of white populations with non-white immigrants that will lead to a "white genocide."

All the MAGA rhetoric of election fraud and immigration goes back to their Great replacement Theory, crypto-Marxist Jews and "cultural Marxism".

It doesn't even deserve praise to its subtlety of being called dog whistles, they are klaxons.

If Musk's inspiration Iain Banks was recanted and descended from his Culture GSV he would whip Muskl senseless.

Musk's tack right and alliance with Trumpian rhetoric and his former partner Peter Thiel's views can't be said to be stupid or against his aims though, it does play into his aims with Twitter Superapp-dom.

6 ( +14 / -8 )

total nonsense.

Oddly TikTok and Osama bin Ladin is fine though. Guess Xi gave some orders on his trip.

-18 ( +6 / -24 )

Has the genius bankrupted himself yet?

7 ( +15 / -8 )

total nonsense.

You think musk didn’t agree with the tweet?

You think the tweet wasn’t real?

Or you think it is unfair that something happened on tiktok and didn’t receive the same attention? That’s it? Another boohoo?

This is not some random person tweeting, this is the owner of the company.

I don't side with either belligerent in the Palestine-Israel conflict, but it is disingenuous for the Democratic Party to claim antisemitism when it's the Democrats themselves who have betrayed the Jews.

Jews have congenitally voted for the Democrats, electing Presidents who refused to meet with the Israeli Prime Minister (Obama and Biden) in times of ‘peace’, and who have given aid to the state of Iran, when it could be argued that this American ‘Aid’ pays for the equipment and ordnance, which is, at this moment, helping to eradicate Jews.

So they can point the finger at Musk or whoever as much as they like, but when representatives are openly affiliated with Democratic Socialists and pro-Palestinian movements, calling for the end of Israel, then there is no more mystery in the antisemitism of the Democratic Party.

Now bring on those Establishment Left downvotes!

-24 ( +5 / -29 )

Guess Xi gave some orders on his trip.

Ooh, another conspiracy theory!

12 ( +21 / -9 )

when representatives are openly affiliated with Democratic Socialists and pro-Palestinian movements, calling for the end of Israel, then there is no more mystery in the antisemitism of the Democratic Party.

Did you happen to read the article? Even the headline should do it.

Poor old Musky, he just cannot stop himself treading in it, can he?

13 ( +18 / -5 )

Just what we need. More riled up illiterates who believe anything. That’ll end well.

IBM on Thursday halted its advertising on X after a report found its ads were placed next to content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party. Media Matters said it found that corporate advertisements by IBM, Apple, Oracle and Comcast's Xfinity were being placed alongside antisemitic content.

Well I for one and glad Musk bought Twitter. I don't know where I'd be if Free Speech Warrior Elon Musk weren't here to allow Hitler and Nazi Party posts.

10 ( +15 / -5 )

X has gone toxic EX-X.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

Cancel culture smells blood and whips itself into another absurd feeding frenzy. The big fish Musk himself. The golden cow. One of the most productive , innovative, richest mavericks of our time. Does long form discussions all day and every day.

The resentful ones ( a class unto itself ) pick up one point that may have been badly worded or not quite on point and it’s game on.

It’s an absolute circus y’all, full of clowns. anyone with their feet on the ground can see where this all springs from too. That hatred will make you all blind.

Musk will carry on being musk, that must be the most infuriating part to the mob,

Have a toppa day!

-12 ( +6 / -18 )

The resentful ones ( a class unto itself ) pick up one point that may have been badly worded or not quite on point and it’s game on.

lol It's a bit more than 1 point now, mate.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

Cancel culture smells blood and whips itself into another absurd feeding frenzy.

I thought being the owner of a website and owning the means of production means your property rights are king. He can say whatever he wants on his site.

How can he be cancelled?

Try to get your rhetoric in order, it fails its own internal logic, like so much in the corporate funded , slavish right-wing media sphere.

9 ( +17 / -8 )

Cancel culture smells blood and whips itself into another absurd feeding frenzy.

Wasn’t the point that Musk can now say whatever he wants? Did you read the part of the article where his own CEO called it ‘ugly and wrong’?

Say what you want but face the consequences, same as it ever was. If he wants to allow Nazi party advertising on his platform, that’s his choice. But don’t be surprised if other advertisers pull out.

If you think that is ‘absurd’ it reflects rather poorly on yourself than ‘the resentful ones’ you seem to dislike whoever they may be.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

No, he can’t be cancelled you are right. It’s just the usual noise from the exact opposite side of the “corporate funded , slavish right-wing media sphere” coin that you so eloquently noted.

Flip the coin fella, surely you see that the head needs its tail. And round and round we go.

-8 ( +6 / -14 )

Musk, what a schmuck! He has developed some serious mental issues over the past couple of years and they only seem to be getting worse. I do hope he seeks medical advice from professional doctors before whatever is wrong becomes irreversible.

Not someone to look up to anymore.

2 ( +12 / -10 )

So Musk is an anti-Semite for “agreeing” with a post? Which part of the post? The Left - especially those within the Biden Administration - think they’ve caught him at last. Laughable for these people who have been anti-Semites for years in the open under banners like BDS. Still funnier when you know that Progressive Jews have been their allies on the great values replacement that has been the Left’s technique for assuming power. I hope they enjoy life under the bus.

-9 ( +7 / -16 )

So Musk is an anti-Semite for “agreeing” with a post?

No, Musk is an edgelord, born with both a silver spoon and his foot in his mouth. Advertisers do not have the luxury of discussing, at length, the deeper meaning of Musk's utterances -- they have to take them at face value and decide whether they will associate with them and the people who take them literally.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

Any criticism of Israel or Jews and instantly ‘antisemite’ is the go to reaction-pathetic!

-10 ( +7 / -17 )

Some of the devotees have got it bad:

"Floating like the heavens above

"Looks like muskrat love"

Any criticism of Israel or Jews

That's not what he was doing.

5 ( +11 / -6 )

Any criticism of Israel or Jews and instantly ‘antisemite’ is the go to reaction-pathetic!

He was endorsing an antisemitic conspiracy theory. Paragraph 2 above:

“Musk on Wednesday agreed with a post on X that falsely claimed Jewish people were stoking hatred against white people, saying the user who referenced the "Great Replacement" conspiracy theory was speaking "the actual truth."

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Any criticism of Israel or Jews and instantly ‘antisemite

I'd say criticizing all members of any group is pretty sus.

At any rate, he was talking about the JQ, which is most certainly antisemitic.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

well who cares?

Elon joining the Neo-Nazis, Proud Bois, Minutemen, and other anti-Semites and white supremacists that infest MAGA-world....

I also thought they hated Chinese-made products being sold in North America?

I guess its OK when a Trump or Musk does it...

Utter Hypocrites...

I will only say that I have to praise Musk for the free speech he allows on his platform.

-11 ( +4 / -15 )

only say that I have to praise Musk for the free speech he allows on his platform.

You mean like this:

IBM on Thursday halted its advertising on X after a report found its ads were placed next to content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party.

This kind of free speech?

10 ( +14 / -4 )

usk will carry on being musk

Not surprising when rthe extreme right attack what they call the MSM, yet exclude Musk's X from that label. It would not be surprising to see ex-45's 'Bigly Lies Social' go down the drain along with Emo's X.

This kind of free speech?

Well as I explained in another comment here https://japantoday.com/category/features/opinions/let-the-community-work-it-out-throwback-to-early-internet-days-could-fix-social-media's-crisis-of-legitimacy :

Letting all views be expressed and then weeded out through the competition of ideas is how the internet should have remained. Wikipedia is not longer an example of that. But there are some who do not trust others to make decisions for themselves.

So I would say the kind of free speech envisioned in this comment. Given IBM's history with the Nazi Germany during World War II, I understand their reluctance to be associated with "content promoting Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party." And they have every right to pull their advertising.

-10 ( +2 / -12 )

So I would say the kind of free speech envisioned in this comment.

Still, I think it's kind of willy to be praising Musk for allowing "free speech" on his platform when really he's allowing pro-Nazi posts.

Given IBM's history with the Nazi Germany during World War II,

It's not just IBM though. It's a number of companies.

In addition to Disney, Warner Bros Discovery and Comcast, Lions Gate Entertainment and Paramount Global said on Friday they also were pausing their ads on X. Axios reported that Apple, the world's largest company by market value, was also pausing its ads.

I guess they don't like free speech, eh?

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Can't understand why any criticism of jews is antisemitic. You can insult people of color and you will not be accused with it but not jews....astonishing how business are kin to support jews even when they are killing newborns . it's pathetic.believe me I m not antisimetic, I m for equal rights to all humans.

-11 ( +2 / -13 )

Letting all views be expressed and then weeded out through the competition of ideas is how the internet should have remained.

That's nostalgia for something that never existed. The internet has always been moderated, even back when it was strictly an academic affair.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Cards fan Today 04:43 pm JST

when really he's allowing pro-Nazi posts

Well he allows pro-Nazi posts and anti-Nazi posts in the interest of free-speech. See, all sides are represented. Remember Remy in the 1995 movie Higher Learning? When you do not address people's legitimate views and force them into the shadows, you create a terrible situation. Better to allow for a free forum openly in the daylight.

-12 ( +3 / -15 )

Well he allows pro-Nazi posts and anti-Nazi posts in the interest of free-speech

And what is the value of allowing pro-Nazi speech? None that I can think of.

When you do not address people's legitimate views

Really now? The Great Replacement is a "legitimate view?"

Letting all views be expressed and then weeded out through the competition of ideas is how the internet should have remained.

Weeded out how exactly? I'd say establishing a TOS and banning Nazi posts does exactly that.

11 ( +13 / -2 )

This man's hair plugs have gone to his brain. To repeat and agree with a juvenile conspiracy theory that Jews are behind a "white genocide" is disgraceful. Because there are low IQ people who actually believe it.

12 ( +14 / -2 )

one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,

I'm not very comfortable with that statement. The action was terrible, but was it not an attack on Israelis rather than Jewish people?

The whole thing is depressing. The idea of establishing a religious state, whether Islamic, Jewish, Christian, or whatever is crazy.

I was cheered up a little by the smiles in the picture below where the First Minister of Scotland (a Muslim) was meeting leaders of some Jewish organizations to discuss a possible rise in anti-semitism in Scotland.

https://www.thenational.scot/resources/images/17458360.jpg?type=mds-article-620

7 ( +9 / -2 )

Letting all views be expressed and then weeded out through the competition of ideas is how the internet should have remained.

Ideally yes there should be an agora of competing ideas and and the strongest prevail.

But in a world where there is massive sponsorship of a pro-corporatism narrative targeting minorities, and the the debate descends into repetitions of "and","what", "LOL", progressives, the Left, Marxists, Soros, Jews, Dems etc. ; that idealized world of discourse breaks down.

The South African blood emerald mine scion Musk is pushing such a discourse.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

It most certainly is a legitimate view.

It most certainly isn't. It's a neo-Nazi talking point. And personally, I'm glad neo-Nazi posts get deleted.

Weeded out by refutation thereby showing the view is illegitimate.

Weeded out and then what? Nothing?

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Cards fan Today 05:18 pm JST

Weeded out and then what? Nothing?

Refuted, then the commentator must reevaluate their position lest they be refuted again. And the gallery, they learn which is the better view. Something.

It most certainly isn't.

Well that is the natural conclusion when you hear something simply asserted without any evidence cited in support. But were evidence permitted, then that evidence would have to be explained. Since there is no alternative explanation is forthcoming, since the presentation of evidence itself is not permitted, then those who find the idea ludicrous continue on in their view and those who see the evidence as they do, in the absence of an alternative explanation, continue in the view that they do. And thus you have parallel worlds with everyone arguing past each other, all equally sure they are right.

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

Well that is the natural conclusion when you hear something simply asserted without any evidence cited in support.

You seem to (deliberately) overlook that some assertions are not made on the basis of "evidence" but on a collective, self-evident morality. There is no need to discuss and weigh evidence on whether Nazis are good people worth listening to.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Refuted, then the commentator must reevaluate their position lest they be refuted again. And the gallery, they learn which is the better view. Something

Sounds to me like the dissemination of neo-Nazi talking points is pretty important to you.

And thus you have parallel worlds with everyone arguing past each other, all equally sure they are right.

Hey do you think it's any coincidence that the amount of antisemitic, racist, and sexist speech has increased significantly since Musk took over? When you platform neo-Nazis, you normalize that trash and unfortunately it can spread. Is that the goal?

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Musk is falling into a category of "useful idiots" with his narcissism exploited.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

Roy Today 05:36 pm JST

You seem to (deliberately) overlook that some assertions are not made on the basis of "evidence" but on a collective, self-evident morality. There is no need to discuss and weigh evidence on whether Nazis are good people worth listening to.

I would contend that the very "collective, self-evident morality" of which you speak is at this very time being questioned by many, for good or for bad. Such is what happens when governments have continually proven themselves to have lied to the people on very fundamental things, leading many to question what else might they have been lying about, e.g. shape of the earth, moon-landings, etc. When you combine this with the advancement of "critical theory" to challenge every existing norm in society, well, pandora's box has been opened. And so if there are those question whether history as has been taught actually played out as people have been told, it is due to this situation.

And just to be clear, I myself would not call myself an advocate for National Socialism. Even so, "replacement migration" is a fact whether Nazi's also take note of it or they don't. Hitler was said to be a vegetarian and love animals. This does not mean I must necessarily hate vegetarians and animals. If on a sunny day even Satan himself were to say, "It is sunny today," it would still be true. Attack the position, not the person. People have a hard time making the difference I understand.

-8 ( +3 / -11 )

one month after the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust,

I'm not very comfortable with that statement. The action was terrible, but was it not an attack on Israelis rather than Jewish people?

I agree, they were not attacked because they are Jewish, but rather because they are occupiers.

Also, most israeli civilians were killed by the IDF, not Hamas.

Even if it was the deadliest day for Jews since the holocaust, the Palestinians have had countless deadlier days during that time at the hands of the IDF.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

And just to be clear, I myself would not call myself an advocate for National Socialism

Yet you seem to think that Musk's decision to platform them is good. You seem to think that companies have every right to withdraw advertising, yet seem to think it's wrong for companies to have TOS to prevent such posts from being prohibited. Hey, what do you think would happen to Twitter if they continue to JQ posters and replacement theory posts?

Even so, "replacement migration"

Replacement migration? No, that's not what replacement theory is. Why do you muddy the waters?

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Best to steer clear of Musk's rabbit holes. Once you go down one, you may never find your way out again. I can live without Twitter.

Not particularly. I also disagree with Musk for continuing to censor Alex Jones. It is the principle that is important. And even Musk gets it wrong sometimes.

Hey do you think it's any coincidence that the amount of antisemitic, racist, and sexist speech has increased significantly since Musk took over?

Did it increase or was it no longer suppressed like on other platforms?

When you platform neo-Nazis, you normalize that trash and unfortunately it can spread.

Perhaps. But you know the saying, "One man's garbage is another man's treasure." Like a homeless man, I sometimes go through the garbage, but it doesn't mean I take everything home!

Is that the goal?

The goal I thought was to have a platform where everyone's position is respected.

Well it is in my book. I guess this is an example of what I meant by "everyone arguing past each other, all equally sure they are right." Even the words we speak do not always have the same meaning.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

some people and “Media Matters” gonna get sued into oblivion until they don’t matter on Monday.

Same companies that paid to have dinner with Xi (TikTok)!coordinate an attack on Elon (X) the next day?

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

Not particularly.

Yet you praised Musk for allowing such posts to stay up.

I also disagree with Musk for continuing to censor Alex Jones. It is the principle that is important.

Do you think that might have something to do with the fact that Alex Jones repeatedly spread lies and slander against the families of Sandy Hook victims. Do you think that might have something to do with self-preservation? Again, if enough companies pull advertising, they'll go out of business. I think that's a pretty good justification censor the JQ posts.

Did it increase or was it no longer suppressed like on other platforms?

Is there a difference? Hate crimes have certainly increased in recent years.

The goal I thought was to have a platform where everyone's position is respected.

Why should I respect a Nazi's opinion? Really?

Well it is in my book.

Well then you're just wrong. That's not what the great replacement theory is. This isn't my opinion. This is just fact. Go look up what replacement theory is. It's not just "migration."

11 ( +12 / -1 )

Weeded out by refutation thereby showing the view is illegitimate.

You mean like people are doing to Musk today? Ok then. Glad you agree with it.

Yet you praised Musk for allowing such posts to stay up.

I praise Musk for his equitable decision to allow controversial posts even at the obvious financial loss his company will incur.

Do you think that might have something to do with the fact that Alex Jones repeatedly spread lies and slander against the families of Sandy Hook victims.

Perhaps, but is he the only one to lie and slander? Why him and not others? It turns out that it is a personal thing with Musk, and that is the problem I have with the decision.

Do you think that might have something to do with self-preservation? Again, if enough companies pull advertising, they'll go out of business. I think that's a pretty good justification censor the JQ posts.

If it had to do with a loss of advertising revenue then why Musk's insistence in this case? This indicates to me more is at stake in Musk's mind than advertising revenue.

Hate crimes have certainly increased in recent years.

Have you ever watched Israeli filmmaker Yoav Shamir's documentary Defamation?

Why should I respect a Nazi's opinion? Really?

I hope I didn't give you the impression that I was asking you to respect other's opinions. To clarify, I was saying that the platform should respect everyone's right to express their views.

Well then you're just wrong. That's not what the great replacement theory is. This isn't my opinion. This is just fact. Go look up what replacement theory is. It's not just "migration."

Well I know what academics will say, but comments on social media are not really the academy though. More important I would think iunderstanding what another means as they intend is paramont. In the present discussion on "Great Replacement Theory" as used by people on social media, I think you will find that I am not alone in recognizing "replacement migration" as an integral part. I think you will also find many to have no inclination to being "Nazis."
