Here's a problem that China tried to delete commitments from a draft agreement that Chinese laws would be changed to enact new policies on issues from intellectual property protection to forced technology transfers. That dealt a major setback to negotiations. The Chine export more goods to the US than the US export to the China.

I don't think President Trump was to blame for the trade war with China. Chinese Government wants free access to the US technology and Japanese Technology. Chinese Government forces foreign investors to transfer their technology to Chinese partners.

Now you can see the Chinese Government is selling Bullet train to the world. So I don't think President Trump was wrong about protecting the US Companies and other countries' Companies' intellectual property.

China and Dump are the same person. They both like tp play victims while lying in your face and screwing you behind your back.

The trade talks with China will go on indefinitely, because these are two separate countries with different interests.We should be glad that negotiations are occurring, because the only other solution is total isolation or war. Products change, economics change as do political motivations. Lets hope trade talks continue are fluid and continue for hundreds of years. There are major differences between what the free world values and what the communists believe are the power of the state over the rights of the individual. The US and Europe should use tariffs as a vehicle to prod totalitarian countries to recognize the value of the individual and insure their citizens have rights.

My company stock options capture in 2 days and President Idiot is tanking the market.

Thanks, Idiot.

Trump governs for himself and his family and that is it....

Whatever, Crazy. It's resulting in a booming economy with record low unemployment and people getting off welfare and food stamps. I'll take results over rhetoric.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

China will trade. Americans will buy Chinese goods. The rich will get tax cuts. Tariffs are tax increases for ordinary people.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Trump governs for himself and his family and that is it. He has no interest in the US Constitution or laws. His lies have topped 10,000, and those are the ones he has told in public. Surely he has told that number if not more in private. He might win reelection from a bitter and gullible electorate but he has failed to resolved the issues of Korea, Iran, and Venezuela, making them worse. He has done incalculable damage to the environment and through his corrupt cabinet has broken the sacred trust of the government with the people. God help us all.

Only if you buy the cheap stuff made in China, which is probably a knock-off anyway. So your Dollar store goods will go up to a dollar fify. Big deal

Ypu clearly know zero about the number of products manufactured in China and sold in the US. Stick to conspiracy theories as they don't require any facts.

Ahhh, love hearing the 1% talk about how great capitalism is.

The alleged 1% that allegedly was born into wealth.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

What people in the world have benefited and then lifted out of poverty by capitalism at any other system, capitalism is the only system that will allow you or any other person of ordinary status and will reward you with efforts that you put in, it helped me and I worked my butt off, everyone has the ability to do it. Not everyone can become rich this is true, but you will always have poverty in this world you always have and you always will and socialism will not solve the problem.

Not everyone is born into a life of wealth and privilege, with all the networks and trimmings that go with it.

The best bet is to abolish capitalism bit by bit. I'd be up for the old anarcho-syndicalism, meself.

Thank God for our capitalist system.

A bit at odds with Jesus who stood for the poor and marginalised, fought the bankers, the corrupt elite and moneyed types, though....

Thank JC for socialism.

God has nothing to do with it. Stupidity, greed and hatred allowed Trump to preside over a nation in crisis.

We all all guilty of this as mere mortals.

It's good that capitalism is being exposed for the inequal nightmare it is but unfortunately, it will be the poor and marginalised who will suffer the most.

Time for the people to take power and dismantle both authoritarian countries.

As for the people in China, if they can’t rise up then they will go somewhere else and reap the rewards of capitalism to profit from it as much as they care Thomas if they want to see results in their country they have to rise up as for the United States it will never happen not a list of people want to cut you to turn into another Venezuela. Thank God for our capitalist system.

IMHO:

Bush1 is Ineffective, couldn't even finish off Saddam;

Clinton is an adjective, a show pony, just there to help make America looks great to the world;

Bush 2 is pre-emptive, but look where that took the middle east and America to;

Obama is inactive, all talk, no action;

Trump is reactive, some would say highly reactive, but at least reactions causes imbalances to eventually reach equilibrium, I'm cautiously optimistic China will be managed back to equilibrium.

@TrevorPeace

What many of you seem to ignore is that China is the biggest owner of US debt.

Yes, think about that for a moment, it would have served China to hoard US treasuries when they're trying to peg the RMB to the USD, but that game is over now for obvious reason. Check currency competitiveness.

 The world is far greater in commercial scope than the US administration wants to admit.

Ok think about that too, if you start from behind, surely, you can only move forward. So by your own deduction and analysis, there is potential for USA to move forward. The tariffs will in the short term reduce China's scalability (and efficiency), and in the long term will reshape the manufacturing landscape. Check manufacturing competitiveness.

The one other factor to look at to level the playfield is regulations and how much sway government has over industries. Hence why USA wants compliance to be written into law so that USA has a regulatory lever to use over rogue Chinese industries. Check state/industry relationship rebalance.

IMHO, you're totally off, because your analysis assumes USA will stand by and do nothing, that is not the case any more.

The man has no idea whatsoever how supply-chain economics works. None.

That would be Biden .

You go into a Home Depot, and half the products are made in China

Yeah, that's what Trump is trying to rectify.

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

In the long run the U.S. will be far better off. Good thing we have Trump in the White House and not Hillary or Biden or some RINO.

I agree. Neither party would even attempt to stir the pot with China, but if you have Dems siding with Trump then you know this is serious. Thank God for him.

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

 I can see them teaching the arrogant Trump administration a lesson over this.

I don’t think this administration can learn lessons. Trump is so arrogant his administration hides and justifies its mistakes in lies, and twisting of words to any way they think will please his idiotic base, in lieu of admitting they have things to learn.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Retaliation isn't necessary! tRump's tariffs will hurt the US consumer because we are paying the cost. How can the US expect to do well when their current leader lost over a billion dollars (the most any US person has ever lost in US history). Lol! It is a proven fact and real record. The irony is the trumpsters voted for him because he was supposed to be a successful businessman, but he just a grifter who got rich from his daddy's money with bankruptcies and multiple lawsuits. He is conning them all. Look at what happened to the coal industry. And then they wonder why the other side questions their intelligence and personal morals.

These trade negotiations will screw over the country and only benefit his personal businesses. Don't forget Ivanka's patents and visits to his hotels by foreign officials. For example, everytime he goes to Mar largo for a vacation. The US government pays his resort tens of millions of dollars for the stay. He is scamming the public.

4 ( +7 / -3 )

The man has no idea whatsoever how supply-chain economics works. None. You go into a Home Depot, and half the products are made in China. The other half have Chinese-made parts and components. It's a totally integrated economic system. And we have an absolutely ignorant man trying to play the game.

Good thing we have Trump in the White House and not Hillary or Biden or some RINO.

Says Putin at today's meeting in the Kremlin...

Keep kicking that dead horse, lincolnman. lol

I have to admit I did a lot of up and down voting on this issue. As a retired Canadian businessman with, I think, more direct experience with politics than most of the commenters here, I can only say my sensibilities tell me that the US will lose with this one. The world is far greater in commercial scope than the US administration wants to admit. China has more customers, and for as long as its labour produces (better and better quality) products, it will surpass the US in global commerce. What many of you seem to ignore is that China is the biggest owner of US debt. Think about that, for a moment. While you might say that means China won't do anything to risk the repayment of that debt, I suggest that China has the hidden means by which it can divest itself of that risk, and move onward and upward while the US moves the other way. We should be careful what we wish for. It may come back to bite us.

For all you farmers, steel workers, auto workers, etc., here is Trump's trade policy with China summed up in a couple sentences;

China is an unfair trader who cheats and doesn't follow the rules...

So we're going to level tariffs on them that will make steel and other products much more expensive here in America - which means steel, construction, and auto workers will likely lose your jobs.

China, in turn, will level higher tariffs on US farm products which will put farmers out of work...

But even if China is bad, I still get my ties and clothing, and Ivanka still gets her shoes all made in China.

So, American workers and farmers get hurt, but I still get my products made in China, by cheap Chinese workers instead of giving those jobs to Americans.

All from the author of "The Art of the Con and the Swindle"....

Good thing we have Trump in the White House and not Hillary or Biden or some RINO.

Says Putin at today's meeting in the Kremlin...

8 ( +11 / -3 )

"Both sides will pay," Kudlow said when pressed on the issue. "The Chinese will suffer (economic) losses and so forth with respect to a diminishing export market."

In the long run the U.S. will be far better off. Good thing we have Trump in the White House and not Hillary or Biden or some RINO.

White House expects China to retaliate over trade tariffs

Before, they didn't expect any retaliation when they did such a move. Common sense is progress!

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Only if you buy the cheap stuff made in China, which is probably a knock-off anyway. So your Dollar store goods will go up to a dollar fify. Big deal.

Yes, you know, like Trump's ties and Ivanka's shoes...

https://www.bustle.com/p/ivanka-trump-shoes-clothing-suppliers-in-china-get-a-break-from-her-dads-administration-9699770

Oh, that's right, Trump products made in China don't have any tariffs on them...sweet deal... So all you farmers, steel workers, construction workers - too bad, you and your families will feel the pain but not Trump.

Any the questions all the Trumpers run away from; why is Trump giving business to China if they are such an unfair trader to the US and we're imposing tariffs on them? Why is he giving jobs to Chinese instead of Americans?

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Which means Trump's bizarre and false rhetoric will trump reality, evidence and facts every time.

And endanger international relations and possibly lead to yet more conflict, with his PNAC pals whispering in his ear.

The arrogant, stupid bastard.

1 ( +6 / -5 )

Much as I disagree with the Chinese authoritarian Xi and his minions, I can see them teaching the arrogant Trump administration a lesson over this.

Larry Kudlow knows the score.

5 ( +10 / -5 )

Stay the course, Trump and Pence, stay the course. The communists will blink first and give into demands. PRC has everything to lose, and will no longer be able to dump cheap, bad quality goods on USA when the big tariffs come in.

-9 ( +6 / -15 )

That means the average American. That means you. And if you're a farmer, double or triple that pain.

I'm not sure how much more farmers are going to experience additional pain since the US and Chinese governments can always buy farm imports to bypass the tariffs. And hopefully there will be a final agreement in a few months that will almost certainly include provisions for China to shift tariffs from agricultural goods to other products.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Only if you buy the cheap stuff made in China, which is probably a knock-off anyway. So your Dollar store goods will go up to a dollar fify. Big deal.

Yes, if you're barely getting by and prices rise 150%, that is a big.

Same with farmers getting burnt on the tariffs.

7 ( +12 / -5 )

Smart people know better than to start throwing rocks and not expect anything in return!

Did it ever occur to you that The Dems And the Repubs are in complete alignment on this issue. Throwing rocks is the only way to wake up China to the fact that they are no longer a 3rd world country and to level out the playing field regarding trade and commerce. The U.S. is very adaptable and will just move production to other parts of the world if China doesn't want to participate. The U.S. once again built and guided another Asian country to be a force in the world. Now let's call China's bluff, slap tariffs on them and see how she stands up by herself. China cannot compete with the U.S. and those that think they can are living in a dream world.

-3 ( +7 / -10 )

Yes, people: you are paying these tariffs and they will hurt American consumers

Only if you buy the cheap stuff made in China, which is probably a knock-off anyway. So your Dollar store goods will go up to a dollar fify. Big deal.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

Yes, people: you are paying these tariffs and they will hurt American consumers.

That means the average American. That means you. And if you're a farmer, double or triple that pain. This is what your overweight charlatan is doling out for you. Now he has conned your vote out of you, he's only interested in your money.

But of course, these are facts, so they will be of little interest to Trump supporters or Fox devotees. Their bigotry, agenda and patriotic nationalism comes first. Which means Trump's bizarre and false rhetoric will trump reality, evidence and facts every time.

1 ( +10 / -9 )

U.S. and the western countries are also responsible for this issue. They made profits using cheap labor and other favorable conditions offered by China. Six hundred million population of China was and is a big market for them to sell their products. While low income earners of the western countries have been helped a lot with cheap Made in China products. It was good Trump pointed out the problem and warned the western world that they are helping a communist country that is becoming ambitious, arrogant and threatening the values of the west.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

If the USA wants to cripple its economy to help the world regain its production again away from Communist China every-democracy-must-go prices then that's good.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

Smart people know better than to start throwing rocks and not expect anything in return! China can do a hell of a lot of damage to the US economy if it wanted to, and Trump is playing a game just to appease his base of support, no matter the outcome!

1 ( +11 / -10 )
