Another fine example of a White House with real crass.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

All of his accomplishments and sacrifices for this country got erased for the crime of criticizing Donald Trump.

6 ( +14 / -8 )

White House staff following their leader. Nasty.

8 ( +14 / -6 )

I don't think you need to be "a friend of John McCain's" to find this comment absolutely distasteful.

18 ( +21 / -3 )

He suffered, tortuous abuse but he played the game with honesty and good intentions. We need more people like him.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

Yup, too much positive press for President Trump these last few days. The MSM thankfully threw crying liberals another useless bone to chew on as a pacifier.

-18 ( +8 / -26 )

As the nation sinks further into authoritarian fascism, expect to see people with the "wrong" ideology denigrated by the state as though their lives don't matter. Because to fascists, if you don't support the state, you don't matter.

4 ( +11 / -7 )

Yet when McCain does pass away, these same people will be gushing in their praise for him -- total hypocrites. Thanks to the media, the American people will know who they are and what they said before.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

funmy how some support and defend a draft dodging POS 5 deferments clown like DJT but criticize a veteran like McCain.

just another shining example of how some of the so-called Americans have no respect or compassion for veterans who made sacrifices while many of them sat on their asses and acted like arm chair generals.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Good old Trump staff -- peeing on the people they disagree with. Hopefully the person who said this remembers, on her deathbed, that she won't be remembered and matters even less. In fact, this comment is likely the only thing she'll be remembered for, and it may well come back as she is bitter and dying alone. That'll be amongst her last thoughts, probably. Hope it would have been worth it to mock a dying person.

The saddest part is that she was just voicing what a lot of Republicans, who used to praise the man (and will when he dies), are thinking the exact same thing.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

I've never been a big fan of McCain, but think this sort of disrespect is low. I almost wrote as low as possible, but I think Trump and his lackeys can go even lower.

Trump the great divider has surrounded himself with sycophants ready to do his bidding to ensure the US's

us - them chasm is even further widened.

Trump reminds me of he-who-cannot-be-named (or any other authoritarian nationalist).

the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing (he-who-cannot-be-named) psychological profile:

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Ms. Sadler should realize that we are all dying, some sooner than others. Even close to death, McCain is more consequential than Sadler will ever be.

9 ( +11 / -2 )

Yup, too much positive press for President Trump these last few days. yeah well we all know that McCain is a real American hero and patriot, put his life on the line and has sacrificed a lot for his country.

Unlike Cadet Bone-spurs

6 ( +9 / -3 )

that was not a very kind thing to say, I agree. But I really wonder why the sudden 24/7 daily news about McCain recently. yet no one bothers to ask him the basic question of if he isn’t impaired why doesn’t he go back to work? And if he is impaired, we shouldn’t put any stock in what he is saying....right?

its a legitimate question at some point as he is interjecting his opinion into everything and trying to influence people.

-12 ( +5 / -17 )

McCain's wife, Cindy McCain, responded in a tweet. "May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren," she said.

Words are wasted on the likes of Trump and his crew.

I can understand McCain's stance since he wants to prevent our government from conducting torture, and he is afraid Haspel will roll things back to the Cheney era.

Regarding Haspel, Brenner gave a positive statement about her being a-political and would push back against Trump. At least she knows the CIA and is not you usual croney appointment. She's better than Trump's last pick.

Ordinarily, I would say that she blew it by not standing up against torture. Brenner's comments give me hope that despite her history she will probably be among the only reliable people in Trump's group along with Mathis, Frey, AND Rosenstein.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

its uncomfortable to discuss but he has BRAIN cancer, right? I wish he would just resign and peacefully spend his remaining months, hopefully years with his family.

I can be a vet and respect the service of a vet while at the same time questioning the validity of something they say. or ask if we should be encouraging the person by giving what they say any weight.

Maybe if the media stops engaging him on every single topic hoping for an anti-trump soundbite, he will feel he can finally rest.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

its a legitimate question at some point as he is interjecting his opinion into everything and trying to influence people.

Totally agree. He has brain cancer, how gross!? Who does he think he is, a senator?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

@blackl Maybe if the media stops engaging him on every single topic

Trump could have the totalitarian regime he and the GOP are working towards. That's the media's job, especially with this president who wants constant attention and does whatever he can to get it.

The WaPo's slogan says it best: Democracy dies in darkness.

But that's what GoTrumpers want, isn't it.

10 ( +10 / -0 )

Another glowing example of the type of people who go into politics and represent "the people."

7 ( +7 / -0 )

have you seen the WaPo front page on the web today? That’s not democracy, just hit pieces on Trump, Gina Haspel, Cohen, Mike Pence, Paul Ryan and even Hannity. Plus 2 identity politics articles.

-11 ( +1 / -12 )

You know, I'm curious how you start on this thread stating:

that was not a very kind thing to say, I agree.

But another post our two in, you went right ahead you continued on with the anti-McCain garbage, questioning how McCain could possibly serve his constituents.

Let's be fair, trashing McCain and his and his service to the country is fine with you, as long its done in defense of Donny. Isn't that correct?

Unless you are an Arizona resident, why do you care so much about what McCain says?

Lastly, their is a big difference between physically unable to work, and mentally unable to work.

Despite his illness, I've seen no idea evidence McCain is unable to work, but I have seem plenty indicating Donald is mentally incapable of doing his job.

12 ( +12 / -0 )

@blackl have you seen the WaPo front page on the web today? That’s not democracy,

It's clear there are some who don't understand the role of a free press in a democracy. Did the WaPo slander? Libel? Say something illegal?

Democracy dies in darkness, and can be subsequently replaced by some form of authoritarian rule. Then maybe GoTrumpers can have their Russian-style state controlled media with daily stories about their dear leader - and his golf games. Why they could even tell stories about him being unarmed yet still taking on a shooter using an automatic weapon, recounting his saying boom, boom!

7 ( +7 / -0 )

What a sick, cruel thing to say about someone dying of cancer...

The White House seems to be staffed by morons with foot-in-mouth disease... I bet these were all the really annoying kids at school who hung around with the bully... I'd let a bunch of 6 year olds run the good ol' US of A... they couldn't do a worse job.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

So why are all the anti-Dem stories in the “darkness” then? Same as McCain. it’s only bevause he is anti-trump and incapable of voting for the Republican side that no one in the media is gently nudging him into resignation and retirement for his “own good”.

Anyway enough about this. I don’t appreciate an incapacitated vet being used by the media for political games. We all know what this is, it’s just uncomfortable to speak of it so I won’t.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

don’t appreciate an incapacitated vet being used by the media for political games.

How about Fox 'news' having a guest on one of its shows today saying torture works, using McCain as an example, then making a disparaging remark about McCain. That was sick.

But Fox should still have the right to present news stories catering to their audience. If what was said was illegal, let the courts decide.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

BlacklabelToday  03:21 pm JST

So why are all the anti-Dem stories in the “darkness” then?

Honest answer: Because they're either fake, or they work.

Fake stories, like the notion that Hillary committed any kind of malicious or illegal wrongdoing that caused Benghazi, don't have legs because there is no evidence to back them up. They don't have legs because the only thing that has ever driven them is Republican wishful thinking.

Stories that work, like AG Schneiderman, don't have legs because everyone of every political stripe considers him a scumbag and there is no point in beating a dead horse.

It's because of partisan denial on the part of the Trump regime, starting from the top and working down through every GOP cheerleader in government, news, Russia, and the peanut gallery, that these stories that embarrass the Trump regime keep getting coverage. It's the Streisand-effect. If the right would quit trying to deceptively kill these stories and would show a shred of objectivity and human morality over wrong-doing done by people on their team, these stories would be just as fleeting as they are when Democrats get caught behaving badly.

As the nation sinks further into authoritarian fascism

@Katsu - 1 (One) concrete example, please.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

I guess Trump could always revoke Sadler's credentials, like what he wants to do to unflattering press.

No big fan of McCain but deeply unpleasant comments. It's like the White House has become a borstal full of thugs. How unedifying.

As the nation sinks further into authoritarian fascism

@Katsu - 1 (One) concrete example, please.

I mean you did just ask me to be put in a position where I could easily be killed just because you didn't like my opinion, at least until the mods deleted your comment.

But sure, let's go with Trump threatening to revoke press credentials of anyone who reports negatively on him.

Or we could go with members of the White House treating an honored member of the Senate like his life was worthless just because he doesn't support the regime.

Or we could talk about Trump filling government positions with his friends and family, rather than people with actual qualifications for the job.

Or we could talk about Trump agitating his supporters to see ethnic, sexual, and religious diversity as threats to their identity and encouraging violence against any who don't conform.

But I'm sorry, you asked for only one example and I seem to have gone over.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Well said, katsu.

Trump has advocated violence many times, most notably at his rallies. And of course, that classic tyrant comment that the press is the "enemy of the people".

History shows us just how such dictators operate and whip supporters up into an irrational fury.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I agree wholeheartedly that the words of anybody who demonstrates clear mental impairment should be regarded, if not with suspicion, then as less valuable than those of a normal person.

Which is potentially a problem for fans of the President....

2 ( +3 / -1 )

The Trump White House is an insanitary toilet.

Just unpleasant.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Blacklabel: I don’t appreciate an incapacitated vet being used by the media for political games.

Too many Trump fans are morally bankrupt.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Good lord, the "conservative" partisan monkey's here can't stop dancing until they get that authoritarian regime they're absolutely foaming at the mouth for. Remember the Simpson's Sideshow Bob speech:

*"Because you need me, Springfield. Your guilty conscience may move you to vote Democratic, but deep down you long for a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes (short term gain, long term pain), brutalize criminals(especially if they're any other ethnicity but caucasian), *and rule you like a king."

They want a monarchy... the sick unpatriotic partisan fanatics want to eliminate democracy (don't criticize the president... I mean future Emperor... I mean Dear Leader!). He is the epitome of our "moral standards" of "decency"!

Everyone who disagree's is automatically a liberal, even though I know I'm not xD. Utter lunacy on their behalf.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I don’t think they want a monarchy. They’ve just been so desperate for a win in their lives they they sold themselves out to a proven liar and known scammer. For them, disparaging a American patriot means nothing at all if that’s the price to pay to be included with the “winning team.”

5 ( +6 / -1 )

clamenza said - ".. Fascism is a feature of the left, not the right...."

History abounds with contradictions. I won't tell you because you already know - I'm sure.

clamenza said - "..Trump is anything but a centralist.."

Could have fooled me. His own existence is centralist. He is the centre of everything. His govt revovles entirely around him. His rhetoric puts him at the core of all that he perceives to be wise and sure. Any differing opinion is to be derided and then discarded.

How much decentralization has Trump iniated since gaining power? How Much?

clamenza said - ".. People call Trump a fascist because he's a nationalist.." He's not a nationalist. Even nationalists have their country at heart. Trump has Trump at heart. How can he have America the people at his heart if he consistently divides and berates Americans? No - Trump is the master manipulator under a stars and stripes shroud, spouting words that feathers his nest of power and ego. His Grand Centrist Platform.

That how he emboldens himself by denigrating others including McCain. Why on earth would a person of normal means even find it remotely necessary to say about a senior fellow Republican;

"a war hero because he was captured. I likepeople that weren't captured".

I mean - what the...????? Only an egotistical control freak would find the need to elevate themselves with such trite. And this is from MR. Bonespurs himself.

Trump promised to drain the swamp. Well he certainly has pulled the plug on many, esp his buddies, but the murk is just getting deeper and deeper and pollutes all those swimming in the sludge.

Thats why you get moronic comments coming out of the WH like which this article mentions.

"Doesn't matter he's dying anyway". That's as turgid as they come. Rest assured the swamp wiill overflow sometime and Trump will be a laughing memory in times to comes. He just doesn't see it.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I would love to have heard the comments said about political opponents in the past, before the internet and social media. You people don't really think no other politician in history has ever said anything crass or insulting about their opponents? I would bet that crass comments by our leaders and their staff probably go back as long as we have had politicians.

The dumb stuff Trump says in public I care about. Comments said behind closed doors, as distasteful as they may be, should stay that way. These leaks really are stupid and unprofessional.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

Everyone just remember: this kind of vulgarity is a feature, not a bug, of how Trump does things.

These are wicked, mean people, folks. Very bad people. Indeed, we will find out how bad this November. The economy is good, job growth fair, no wars. And yet, with all this, we will see how Americans tolerate such violations against moral norms. Remember how the House is heavily gerrymandered. Remember that the Senate is much, much more friendly towards Republicans this cycle than usually.* Remember both these, and if the House is lost to Team Dem is an anticipated Blue Wave, we will know why:

Americans reject Trump.

*if you don't understand why, see here: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-congressional-map-is-historically-biased-toward-the-gop/

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Everyone just remember: this kind of vulgarity is a feature, not a bug, of how Trump does things.

Yes, because I'm sure Obama and his staff only had glowing compliments for the oppostion when they were behind closed doors. Or Clinton. Or Bush. Or etc. etc.

If anyone thinks that every single politician didn't have something nasty to say about their detractors when they thought no one was listening, they are delusional. The only difference now is that everyone and their brother wants to spill the beans about Trump.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

I'm sure Obama and his staff only had glowing compliments for the oppostion when they were behind closed doors. Or Clinton. Or Bush. Or etc. etc.

Yes, they had the decency to close the doors. The jobs in high administrations require a minimum of manners, of control of one's speech, well some professionalism. Trump and his minions are reaching new lows every week.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Yes, they had the decency to close the doors. The jobs in high administrations require a minimum of manners, of control of one's speech, well some professionalism. Trump and his minions are reaching new lows every week.

You are absolutely correct about closing the doors. As a matter of fact, if you had read the article, you would have seen that this comment about McCane was made in a closed door staff meeting.

From the very first sentence of this article that we are discussing for you: '*A White House official mocked Senator John McCain's brain cancer at an internal meeting on Thursday...*'

The comment was not meant for public consumption and should have stayed that way.

I don’t think they want a monarchy.

While this may be true of the general trend, I absolutely know of and have spoken with Trump fans who strongly believe democracy is an ineffective system which should be replaced by a monarchy because according to these people, monarchies are the only forms of government which practice long-term thinking. Also, according to Trump fans I've spoken with, people should not be allowed to have equal votes because, "come on now, deep down we all agree not everyone really is equal, right?"

3 ( +4 / -1 )

I don’t appreciate an incapacitated vet being used by the media for political games. We all know what this is, it’s just uncomfortable to speak of it so I won’t. well you know if Cadet Bonespurs and his staff would just STFU and dont say anything if it isn't constructive we wouldn't be in the situation we have now.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

As the nation sinks further into authoritarian fascism,

You mean trying to get out of the fascist time zone we were in for so long.

expect to see people with the "wrong" ideology denigrated by the state as though their lives don't matter.

Which would that be? Socialism?

Because to fascists, if you don't support the state, you don't matter.

That’s why the left lost so much for so long again and again.

monarchies are the only forms of government which practice long-term thinking. Also, according to Trump fans I've spoken with, people should not be allowed to have equal votes because, "come on now, deep down we all agree not everyone really is equal, right?"

Where on the Earth do you find people like that? Scraping the bottom of the barrel, eh? As a true conservative, the only fringe looney conservatives I have ever had a chance to observe have been the people from Westboro Church. Dude, lol

-7 ( +0 / -7 )

Fake stories, like the notion that Hillary committed any kind of malicious or illegal wrongdoing that caused Benghazi, don't have legs because there is no evidence to back them up.

They do, you just have as of now a Justice system that has gotten so political it is over the top pathetic.

They don't have legs because the only thing that has ever driven them is Republican wishful thinking.

When you have corrupt cops like Brennan and Clapper on your side, the possibilities are endless, you can get away with anything.

Stories that work, like AG Schneiderman, don't have legs because everyone of every political stripe considers him a scumbag and there is no point in beating a dead horse.

He is a complete scumbag, thank God Karma finally caught up to him.

It's because of partisan denial on the part of the Trump regime, starting from the top and working down through every GOP cheerleader in government, news, Russia, and the peanut gallery, that these stories that embarrass the Trump regime keep getting coverage.

And still no proof of any wrongdoing.

It's the Streisand-effect. If the right would quit trying to deceptively kill these stories and would show a shred of objectivity and human morality over wrong-doing done by people on their team,

Wrongdoing? Like what?

these stories would be just as fleeting as they are when Democrats get caught behaving badly.

Democrats are THE most dishonest group of pathetic people out there. They want power and yet, they can’t keep it because they don’t know how to govern. They raise taxes, increase the size of government, don’t know anything about the private sector, they just know that staying in power and having the majority is important, nothing else.

Despots control the masses by creating a distorted reality. They get the people to question everything but the leader. They undermine the media, telling the people to doubt what is reported. They undermine the police, telling the people to doubt what is investigated. They undermine the justice departments, telling the people to doubt what is judged. In the end, the leader tells everyone that the only one they can believe in is Dear Leader.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Meanwhile prominent liberals publicly celebrated the death of Margaret Thatcher ('ding dong the witch is dead'), yet suddenly they're all clutching pearls over this. They also were quick to defend the professor that attacked the deceased Barbara Bush just a weeks ago, and she ended up keeping her job. Liberals are total hypocrites who only claim offense when it suits them for political gain.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Despots control the masses by creating a distorted reality. They get the people to question everything but the leader.

When ever single study shows overwhelmingly that the media has a political bias, even some fair minded liberals are more and more agreeing.

They undermine the media, telling the people to doubt what is reported.

You should and the ratings are reflecting those doubts daily.

They undermine the police, telling the people to doubt what is investigated.

When you have a corrupt cop with NOT a single Republican or conservative lawyer on your team, anyone with a trace of sense would have doubts and they’re growing day by day.

They undermine the justice departments, telling the people to doubt what is judged. In the end, the leader tells everyone that the only one they can believe in is Dear Leader.

No, they believe and see with their own eyes what is right and what is disturbingly wrong with our justice system, the liberal media and ongoing attempt to try and overturn an election of a President that was duly elected. If this were done to the last President, every liberal would scream racism and wouldn’t put up with it.
