The republicans love this one. They love pushing the Obama is a Muslim thing. Rush hardly talked about anything but this. He's not the only one. Only republicans are running with this. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Now republicans may say fine, he's Christian but prays for Muslims :)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Pity he's not an economist.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This whole religion topic is just sickening. Some people are really retarded...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

The republicans push hes a muslim...bs...its the media that pushes it boys and girls! Controversey sells!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

And there are still those who think the US is a 'leader' on most issues, when in fact this clearly illustrates how far back in evolution they are on the topic of religion. Bush was very clearly a Methodist, and what did that get the nation? worst economic slump in decades, two very costly wars that were both unnecessary, and both failing, and a host of other problems. And the funny thing is the people INSISTING Obama is Muslim despite the facts are the ones who want to return to the previous kind of disaster of a president... it's amazing how stupid some are. I feel sorry for my American friends who actually have heads on their shoulders.

Regardless, as I said yesterday, so long as the President is not pushing his/her personal religious believes on others then WHO CARES what he or she believes! It shouldn't matter one little bit.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Phew thank GOD for that. How could he be a legitimate President of the USA if he is not christian? Such nonsense!!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Caldwell, who said he has known Obama for years, said the president is a Christian who prays every day..

This is what, when we were children, we used to call a 'white lie'.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This stuff reminds me of the witch scene in The Holy Grail. Just change "She's a WITCH!!! She's a WITCH!!!" to "He's a MUSLIM!!! He's a MUSLIM!!!". Come to think of it, a lot of news out of the US now reminds me of that scene.

As King Arthur might say, "America, let's not go there. 'Tis a silly place!"

smodgy

How could he be a legitimate President of the USA if he is not christian? Such nonsense!!!

That is such nonsense. I don't know why he has to be anything at all. Is there a requirement to be anything? Or has the Christian religion run roughshod and candidates of other religions have just not run?

I remember when JFK ran and his Catholic thing. Such a no issue. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Who cares what this says about Obama? What is far more important is what it says about the American people.

GJDailleult at 10:18 AM JST - 20th August

I think King Arthur would have been right.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Well, there are candidates of other religions that have run for high heads of state just so far none for presidential office. The main difference here though is that people usually do not vote a person into office for their religious beliefs. It may be a factor, but it is not the factor. In Michigan though it seems to be the main reason though. And some crazy republican in FL is trying to run with christianity on his sleeve. I wonder how many will buy that.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

But they will vote against them for their religion. Obama's a Christian, but if the republican's effort to make Obama a Muslim in the minds of their ilk, then they can get people to vote against Obama for their rhetoric about his religion. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It comes down to character. A person can not profess to be something then make decisions that are the opposite which makes the person looks like a fool.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

So who was the two faced person skipbeat? < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

This whole religion topic is just sickening. Some people are really retarded...

No kidding!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"prays daily"

He prays that his poll numbers don't drop any further.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

But they will vote against them for their religion. Obama's a Christian, but if the republican's effort to make Obama a Muslim in the minds of their ilk, then they can get people to vote against Obama for their rhetoric about his religion.

Can't wait for his swansong then...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama a Muslim? Clearly he is a rockefeller like Bush before him.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Be better if he was not religious at all. But I suppose in a Christian fundamentalist country like USA it would be like spitting on your own grave if you openly said that you dislike religion.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

As so often with questions like this, you need to define what you talk about.

I don´t know if Obama considers himself a muslim, but I doubt it. From his track record, I would assume his only faith is radical socialism.

But if you ask if he is muslim according to islamic teaching, the answer is a clear yes. As the son of muslim father, of course he is muslim, there is nothing to debate, it is a simple fact.

As was already pointed out in the NYT no less, several years ago:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/12/opinion/12luttwak.html?_r=2&pagewanted=print

I'm not american so excuse me for my ignorance of american laws or constitution: An american born Muslim can't be president of the USA?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Yes an american born muslim can be a president of the USA, but the problem is the conflict between Islam and the Democratic and constitutional laws of the US which are quite at odds with each other. For example what is happening in certain towns across the US, large muslim communities vote in other muslims into state and federal offices. Going by majority vote, one can keep on voting in like minded senators and congressmen until they can get a majority of voices that are muslim in Congress and the Senate which wields enough power to edit laws in favor of Islamic ideals. It still requires a president that is favorable for such laws to either pass or veto them.

Personally though I'd prefer a buddist/hindu/agnostic/athiest president in office before that situation happens.

" I would assume his only faith is radical socialism."

Heh, there's enough stupitidy on this issue without you throwing your love-spuds on the barbie willi.

afroengineer:

" An american born Muslim can't be president of the USA? "

I would assume there is no law against that. But I hope the voters and media would ask him the important question: Does he believe in the secular constitution, or in islamic law?

Because they are not compatible.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@WilliB

I don't notice anyone asking so-called Christian presidents if they believe in the secular constitution.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Kyushujoe:

" I don't notice anyone asking sIo-called Christian presidents if they believe in the secular constitution. "

Since Christians don´t have a shariah, there is hardly any reason to. But if someone wants to ask them, sure why not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@WilliB

Since Christians don´t have a shariah, there is hardly any reason to.

Very true, but some Christians have very strong views on topics such as abortion, divorce, same-sex relationships, interracial relationships and the the role of government in society (to name just a few), that it might be important to hear a candidate's views on the constitution.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

GB.jr was one kyshujoe, but remember the majority of the people in the us according to the 2010 census claim to be of christian belief. I think it was around 275million (maybe more or less, not going to check for the time being). GB.jr was voted in because of his views in various political aspects (or in some cases political party lines) not completely on religious values, but of his opinions of abortion, same-sex relationships, and other issues well beyond that. I know I didn't vote for him though xD.

Never believe something until it has been officially denied. So Obama might be a Muslim after all, but his policies certainly do not reflect that.

Anyway, Obama is just a puppet, I am much more concerned about the beliefs of his masters...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I wish I could see Pres.Obama's face when he heard the news about this. Was he laughing his head off, or doing /facepalms?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Anyway, Obama is just a puppet, I am much more concerned about the beliefs of his masters...

If you'd be kind enough tell us who his masters are, I'd be happy to look up their beliefs for you in Wikipedia.

Why wouldn't a Christian nation like the USA celebrate a fella glorifying being a fellow Christian like them? That's a victory for Christianity when everybody wants to be a fellow Christian.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@lostrune2

"Why wouldn't a Christian nation like the USA celebrate a fella glorifying being a fellow Christian like them? "

Because he's not "like them". He's intelligent, socially-aware and tolerant of others' beliefs. (He's also, how can I put it... dark.)

If he'd been elected in the 50s, they'd have called him a Commie, in the 70s he'd have been called a hippie drug-abuser. In the 20s they would have said what they really want to say now, but daren't.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Life is difficult when you must worship yourself. -And why is my face not on Mt Rushmore and the dollar bill?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Kyushujoe, ain't that the truth. I've never seen the republicans so whipped up about discrediting a democratic president on so many fronts. They've used every possible spin they could except the one that would sic the NAACP and ACLU on their tails.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Again, there is nothing to debate here. From the islamic perspective, he was born a muslim, so either he still is a muslim, or he is an apostate, which carries the death penalty under islamic law.

That is one aspect that makes is islamic outreach programs even more absurd that they would be otherwise.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"From the Islamic perspective, he was born a Muslim, so either he still is a Muslim, or he is an apostate, which carries the death penalty under Islamic law"

Jesus Christ!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

What minutae to argue... Born a Muslim, so no room to determine ones own faith... Bizarre!!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'd call him pretty much a 100 percent total left wing failure myself, could care less about his skin color or background.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Very, very scary, but very WilliB say, you are born into a Muslim family and if you try to leave, change religions etc..well you must be crazy or you must be ready for the death penalty and the US had to pressure the Afghan government a while ago from pardoning one of their citizens who dared convert from Islam to Christianity, but Mr.Obama was real lucky, his father was not a hard core Taliban type of Muslim and his white mother believed in almost every kind of religion etc...in this universe so young Obama saw the light so to speak in the American Black Christian community on the rough, South side of Chicago and here we have a Black American president with a Muslim name but a Christian faith, you gotta love America!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"Born a Muslim, so no room to determine ones own faith."

Islam according to willi.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

"here we have a Black American president with a Muslim name..."

That, combined with Obama's support for building a mosque near round Zero, might account for the rather large percentage of people who think he be Muslim.

"... but a Christian faith..."

But Obama's faith is definitely influenced by what he heard from the racist, America-hating Rev. Wright all those years.

"... you gotta love America!"

F'n A! But we don't gotta be lovin' Obama!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I'm almost overhwelmed with how much I don't care.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Madverts:

" "Born a Muslim, so no room to determine ones own faith." Islam according to willi. "

No, islam according to islam. Inform yourself about Shariah laws. (Which the ground zero imam incidentally advocates for the US.)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Inform, shminform, minutae at the highest level... If the budhists want to claim him as their own will that count. Doesn't one have the right to choose their own faith?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

It's really a shame that the White House feels the need to make this public. It goes to show that there is a lot of irrational hatred toward the president.

Yess I Hope he Prays Five Times a Day Towards The Direction of Kibla. He is the Best example, and Christian as accepts Islam the completion ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Tactical blunder. Being on the defensive won't help change the minds of the nutcases who think Obama is a Muslim. What they should have done is go on the offensive, and accuse Pat Robertson of being a fraud and his ACLJ of being a bunch of liars dihonestly exploiting the system of creating landmarks and subverting our constitution. Fight fire with fire they say, but bear in mind that the fire is offense vs. offense. The accusations I lay down against Robertson and the ACLJ are true, whereas the accusations against Obama are not.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

WilliB said: Inform yourself about Shariah laws. (Which the ground zero imam incidentally advocates for the US.)

You seem so desperate to inform us williB. How about a link proving the Imam advocates Sharia for the U.S.? Then tell us why that is so bad? Lots of people support private arbitration for civil cases. But I think you will make this about criminal law, which it isn't. But how about that link, and I will point out your dishonesty in more detail later.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't care what his religion is. That has nothing to do with why I voted for him. < :-)

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I don't care what his religion is either. That has nothing to do with why I voted for the other guy.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Obama views himself as a self-made man and worships his creator.

"No, islam according to islam. Inform yourself about Shariah laws."

Why bother I've got you, tJT's resident immam, who strangely uses these boards to do nothing other than rant about Islam. Don't you ever fatigue of it?

"(Which the ground zero imam incidentally advocates for the US.)"

"Ground zero" immam eh? And you people wonder why you're constantly laughed at?

Question: What does President Obama do more often on Sundays?

a) goes to church

b) plays golf

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@Sarge

Question: What does President Obama do more often on Sundays? a) goes to church b) plays golf

I don't know the answer, but I hope you're not trying to suggest that putting in the hours at church somehow makes you a Christian. I thought that kind of thinking had disappeared with the last of the hypocritical Puritans.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Thankfully I live in a free country where the topic of what I do on a Sunday isn't commented upon by religious nuts, or their children.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

@kyushujoe - No, I don't believe that simply putting in hours at church makes you a Christian. I do believe, however, that Obama, listening to Rev. Wright all those years, picked up some bad ideas about America.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Why does it matter regardless? Obama could be Rastafarian for all I care. Why are people so concerned with what someone else's religion is? If they have one at all...
