It’s a start. Keep it moving.

So much is needed to reduce gun homicides and mass shootings.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

I’m also tasked to keep in mind that many of these child deaths by gunfire are children getting caught in the crossfire between criminals.

Also keep in mind that more kids are killed by finding a relatives loaded gun unsecured than caught in crossfire between criminals.

And it will do what?

The office will coordinate efforts across the federal government and will offer help and guidance to states struggling with increasing gun violence, while taking the lead on implementation of the bipartisan gun legislation signed into law last year.

Ok, so more taxpayer money wasted.

There’s no argument that America has a gun problem. The issue is whether you’re on the side of those who want a blanket solution that punishes people that don’t deserve to be punished and that tramples one’s constitutional and god-given right to self defense; or whether you’re on the side of those who want criminals locked up quickly and longly and removed from the community of law abiding people and that doesn’t violate the constitution.

The issue is with people thinking there are only 2 extreme sides. It’s not that simple.

Good. First thing, get the guns out of the hands of the MAGA-terrorists that go around killing people of color at supermarkets and shooting up FBI offices...

The number of children and teens killed by gunfire in the United States increased by 50% between 2019 and 2021. The United States has by far the highest rate of child and teen firearm mortality among peer nations. Firearms Were Involved in More Child Deaths in 2020 and 2021 Than Any Other Cause.

The states with the least gun laws have the highest mortality rate for children killed by guns.

Ok, so more taxpayer money wasted.

You frequently attempt to berate the Democrats for doing nothing to address gun violence. Now it’s a waste of taxpayer money?

Empty barrel.

7 ( +10 / -3 )

Please keep in mind that states with the most gun laws have the highest rates of child gun deaths.

Source please.

The 2nd Amendment limits the type of weapon that can be owned.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Firearms are the No. 1 killer of children in the U.S., and so far this year 220 children younger than 11 have died by guns and 1,049 between the ages of 12 and 17 have died. As of 2020, the firearm mortality rate in the U.S. for those under age 19 is 5.6 per 100,000. The next comparable is Canada, with 0.08 deaths per 100,000.

Jesus.

I am always surprised how people like to compare the US to countries at war or dealing with uncontrolled drug related violence to say the country is not having a problem, as if the comparison was not proof enough.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Banning assault weapons wont stop gun violence

Probably not. They don't account for much of it. What will stop gun violence?

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I am always surprised how people like to compare the US to countries at war or dealing with uncontrolled drug related violence to say the country is not having a problem, as if the comparison was not proof enough.

Then you must not be surprised because no one here commented there is no problem.

Who said this was commented here? did you even read the text I quoted?

And you’re on board with what you blamelessly mischaracterized as extreme number 2.

Read my post again. You misunderstood it.

Can’t watch any movie from America that doesn’t have guns as the tool for solving problems. (Full disclosure: haven’t seen Barbie or Opp, but I’m sure there are guns present in both of them). Guns are in that country’s DNA. Violence too. Good luck with this, it’s a start, but an uphill battle.

Looking at Biden's record one has to assume the aim of the office will be find discrete ways to target African Americans and jail the hell out of them.

One should also start to scrutize Hunter's recent investments....anything prison contract related recently?

Its not that I don't want some sane gun control, I do. But this corrupt demon has filled America's prisons to the point that so-called "free country" has more people in prison than any country on Earth, with highest incarceration rate as well, and disproportionately African Americans. Its simply amazing that the American people let this guy be president with his horrific anti-American history and agenda. He HATES America more than I do!

You did, as you wrote you are "always surprised." That means you misunderstood the comment.

The text that that does not note that the US does not have a problem?

You misunderstood what you quoted.

You frequently attempt to berate the Democrats for doing nothing to address gun violence. Now it’s a waste of taxpayer money?

Yes, because nothing will come of this.

Empty barrel.

Not me, the Democrats, and this admin. But I get it, they need to throw out that red meat for public consumption.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

361 Americans are shot in one way or another every day.

Talk about mass shootings!

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Ok, so more taxpayer money wasted

It's never a wasted effort to try to curb runaway gun violence, reduce mass shootings, ban unnecessary assault weapons or educate people.

The issue is whether you’re on the side of those who want a blanket solution that punishes people that don’t deserve to be punished and that tramples one’s constitutional and god-given right to self defense

Who's being punished? Firearms aren't being completely banned. The right to self-defense is still there and there are many ways to defend yourself besides sending a hail of bullets flying indiscriminately.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

And what will the Dems do now, knowing that the majority of deaths are in the cities that they run, any action taken? Will they also start enforcing the rule of law incarcerate lawbreakers and end No-cash bail? Will the DAs finally hold people who commit these crimes responsible for their actions or just do the usual and release them back on the streets to harm and terrorize people to the point where they do need to buy guns?

The states with the least gun laws have the highest mortality rate for children killed by guns.

When you take the largest crime-ridden cities out of the equation to push a certain viewpoint, it would seem so.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

The majority of child deaths from guns are from the low gun law states like Texas.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

You did, as you wrote you are "always surprised." That means you misunderstood the comment.

No I did not, I commented that is my reaction when that is the case, I never said this was done here, and did not quote a comment saying so, thus disproving your criticism as invalid, The comment I quoted is not even making this comparison there should be no problem understanding this, so why pretend you could not do it?

The text that that does not note that the US does not have a problem?

The text clearly makes a valid comparison with developed countries, my comment is about invalid comparisons that some people tend to do to "justify" the degree of violence, again it is not realistic to think anybody would think this contrast is meant to be equivalent, putting even the minimum amount of attention is enough to see this.

You misunderstood what you quoted.

No I did not, the comment is correct and appropiate, making a valid comparison that demonstrate the US is lagging behind the other countries of the developed world about violence.

My comment is about people thinking that making invalid comparisons with developing countries involved in war or drug related violence somehow put the US in a better light, when in fact the result is the same, making it clear the US is closer to the developing world. Too bad you were unable to understand this but projecting this misunderstanding is not a valid reply.

https://www.keranews.org/government/2023-02-21/gun-related-homicides-hit-black-and-latino-communities-in-north-texas-hardest-can-that-change

North Texas always has been a blue spot for Democrats. So yes, you are right, but as long as you vote for these radical liberal policies, expect nothing to change and these communities suffer the most.

I already posted a nonmedia link. More extensive research.

Firearm mortality rate per 100,000 children and teens ages 1-19 years, by number of state firearm laws in the U.S. (2021) and Canada (2019)

States with the Least Firearm Law Provisions 8.7.

States with the Most Firearm Law Provisions 4.3.

More than double for states with the least firearm law provisions.

https://www.kff.org/mental-health/issue-brief/child-and-teen-firearm-mortality-in-the-u-s-and-peer-countries/

But this corrupt demon has filled America's prisons to the point that so-called "free country" has more people in prison than any country on Earth, with highest incarceration rate as well, and disproportionately African Americans.

Do you think this is recent?

So then why are these stats the highest in the black and Latino communities? Why is it that the Dems don't care about their largest constituents? The good thing is, that they are slowly waking up and walking away from the Dem party racially oppressive radical Dem Party that they have been so loyal to for over 70 years, their policies were the worst thing and destroyed these once proud and great communities.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Texas has the highest rate of gun deaths

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Texas has the highest rate of gun deaths

North Texas, I believe it and that’s a Democrat stronghold, so what are they doing besides unsuccessfully trying to blame Republicans and that area doesn’t vote Republican.

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

Texas is a single state.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Texas with the least number of gun restrictions has the highest rate of gun deaths,

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Texas is a single state.

So is California, and yet, I’m from the deepest reddest part of it, the part where Democrat policies fail time and time again or the only safe and sane place in that state.

Texas with the least number of gun restrictions has the highest rate of gun deaths,

So then maybe the people in that area should think about voting for the Democrats and vote for more punishing heavy crime. Complaining is not helping the Black and Latino communities. Look at Chicago, look what the Dems did to that once great city.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

So are all states and all with a single governor.

Nothing like the largest blue states and their cities

federal office of gun violence prevention

The easiest way to prevent gun violence in the US is to encourage more law abiding Americans to arm themselves, and train them to be ready for the worst.

Better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it.

-5 ( +0 / -5 )

The office fulfills a key demand of gun safety activists who banded together as a coalition to endorse Biden for president in 2024,

Just another election gimmick.. nothing more..

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

No one in my family owns a gun and they never will.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The easiest way to prevent gun violence in the US is to encourage more law abiding Americans to arm themselves, and train them to be ready for the worst.

So what are you proposing? Mandatory training requirements before ownership? Ongoing training and evaluation of marksmanship, knowledge of gun safety, mental health and firearm maintenance? Mandatory membership of a shooting club? Licensing?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

I hold all politicians state and federal levels of both parties responsible for the lack of sensible gun laws.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

No one in my American family owns a gun and I doubt going into the future that will not change.

Only about 47% of households own a gun. Considering there are more than 400 million guns.

124 million households. 59 million households own 400 million guns.
