Trump says governors playing 'political game' with virus tests

After tell 18,000+ 'intentional misinformations' Trump has long established to all but those in his media and his truest believers his word means nothing.

Once again Trump doesn't understand that as a politician in a nation with Constitutionally guaranteed democratic principles 'politics' are played.

He's confusing the role of a president with an authoritarian like Xi, Putin etal.

16 ( +19 / -3 )

But governors of both parties have been complaining for weeks that they can't ramp up testing without federal assistance,

This is what the real situation is.

Trump is basically calling out Democrats only to make it appear that it's just some made up political game dems are playing when in reality both red and blue states have been saying in unison that the feds have failed in this area.

What a scumbag. Just as bad as China when it comes to the truth.

9 ( +14 / -5 )

Dem governors (and Hogan) are playing games. They claim they can’t even get cotton swabs by themselves.

-18 ( +4 / -22 )

Trump has already shown that he’s not president you ever want to have in a crisis situation. Can you imagine the Donald during world war 2? He’d have been shaking hands with the Germans with one hand and slapping Churchill across the face with the other.

Thanks to the lying media, throwing a monkey wrench in every single thing Trump or his experts say, the Democrats bring out their experts pushing to keep the country closed which is fueling more anger and more vitriol to have the country re-open in certain sectors and their not taking it anymore, the people want to work and their strategy on once again trying to push the blame onto this President is failing miserably again.

Once again Trump doesn't understand that as a politician in a nation with Constitutionally guaranteed democratic principles 'politics' are played.

If that’s true, then the Democrats should be the first people given the stats (and allegedly caring about the working man) should support and encourage a slow lifting of the lockdown

He's confusing the role of a president with an authoritarian like Xi, Putin etal.

The bottom line is that Trump cares about one thing only: himself. In the middle of a national emergency he is thinking only about his ratings and his reelection.

It is depressing beyond belief that Trump's followers do not recognize this. It's not about liberal vs. conservative or Democrat vs. Republican.

12 ( +17 / -5 )

@bas4f lying media, throwing a monkey wrench in every single thing Trump or his experts say,

For quoting him verbatim using video tape? If you're saying some in the media are making malicious deep fakes like Trump's taxpayer paid employees are doing, I'd appreciate a link. I'll even hold my nose and read Breitbart, infowars, Hannity, RT, Fox 'news' etc etc, the usual far right sources.

9 ( +12 / -3 )

Who to believe: a compulsive liar or the governors?

”The media” very rarely intentionally lies, whereas Donny constantly lies. Comparing the two is ridiculous.

By the way, a cotton swab for testing is not a q-tip. Let’s keep thing accurate, unlike Donny.

9 ( +15 / -6 )

Oh my. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. But I have an idea.

I am talking about the Western media, not the KCNA, etc. if you have a list of intentional lies by the Western media, post them. If not, well . . .

How do you “unintentionally” lie? Notice you didn’t give our President that option too.

”The media” very rarely intentionally lies, whereas Donny constantly lies.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Without massive amounts of testing, any numbers submitted by the administration are invalid.

The Federal testing sites were closed in last week.

This administration does nothing but lie.

Hundreds of thousands of people will die because Trump's sole interest is his own welfare, because he's an arrogant clown, whose ONLY "skill" is the ability to fool idiots (due mainly to being utterly shameless).

124 here, I’m sure there are plenty more. See how nice we are, we call lies “mistakes” to be polite and to assume they weren’t intentional.

-10 ( +0 / -10 )

The president in recent days has repeatedly compared governors' concerns about a lack of screening capacity to earlier complaints that the states did not have enough ventilators to keep up with the federal government's projections of individuals who would become hospitalized during the virus outbreak.

“Now they scream ....'Testing, Testing, Testing,' again playing a very dangerous political game,” Trump tweeted. “States, not the Federal Government, should be doing the Testing - But we will work with the Governors and get it done. This is easy compared to the fast production of thousands of complex Ventilators!”

The states should be doing the testing. The federal government has been assisting the states. Manufacturers are ramping up to provide tests, testing equipment, find a working vaccine, trying to find a cure. Healthcare professionals are doing their best to care for patients. But elected Democrats chose to complain about everything Trump does in the vain hope that Biden will somehow look electable in November. Many of the usual suspects at the CNN-type media outlets will continue attack Trump regardless of what he does, or does not do.

Trump says governors playing 'political game' with virus tests

That is because many of these governors ARE playing politics with the virus tests.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

Hannity told a guy to go on a cruise and he died when he came back! But the guy left on 1 March and the TV comment referenced as telling him it was ok to go was on 9 March- after he left.

Same NY times reporter as the fish tank cleaner story. unintentional lie even the second time? The Italian hospital video was also used twice as “New York hospital overwhelmed” proof. That’s intentional.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

blacklabek: Dem governors (and Hogan) are playing games.

State governors everywhere have a shortage of tests. Why don't you check out the numbers for your great state of Texas and how many tests they've done. This is not some manufactured political game by Democrats. Even GOP governors have been asking for more help.

Your buddy Trump is lying like China.

6 ( +9 / -3 )

This is why we say just because you have a college degree, it doesn't necessarily mean you're educated.

So, no list of intentional lying by the media. Okay. How about three examples?

Individual reporters have intentionally lied, but it’s nowhere near as pervasive as Donny’s lies. “The media,” however, does not intentionally lie. It would be intentionally lying if it knew an individual reporter was lying but ran the story anyway.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

The bottom line is that Trump cares about one thing only: himself. In the middle of a national emergency he is thinking only about his ratings and his reelection.

Mostly no, but it is small part of it and why wouldn’t it be, he’d be the dumbest person NOT to think about that, I don’t care if you're a Democrat or a Republican to NOT have that thought in your mind is absolutely naive and foolish.

It is depressing beyond belief that Trump's followers do not recognize this.

What we do recognize is how the Democrats will make sure as well as their media surrogate lemmings that their overall and number one objection is to beat Trump by any means necessary if that means throwing a slick of oil in his way so that the people can’t get aid or stay locked down, so be it. Like Rahm Emanuel has repeatedly said, never let a good crisis go to waste and for once, that guy is right in his life.

It's not about liberal vs. conservative or Democrat vs. Republican

Oh, I wish that were so in a better world..

So lack of tests is the new hoax?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

It's pretty clear that a substantial portion of the U.S. population suffers from cable-news transmitted delusions, and that they constitute a bigger threat to their country's well being than SARS, MERS, Ebola, hantavirus and Covid-19 all rolled into one.

“We gave him [New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo] a lot of ventilators. And you know what? He has a lot of ventilators. The problem is with some people, no matter what you give, it’s never enough.”

an example of a Trump "lie". Please explain what is wrong with this statement.

The majority of your 18,000 are dubious or very subjective at best (he said "early" and we feel it wasnt so early but more in the middle). Also the list is behind a paywall to get people to subscribe to their newspaper so they can read the list.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

gave you 124. did I see the goalposts just move when someone changed the narrative to 18,000 for something else?

So, no list of intentional lying by the media. Okay. How about three examples?

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

Trump is a compulsive liar; no real debate needed about that. Taking about specific numbers might be fun but it misses the point overall. Which is that he is a compulsie liar.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

this statement is counted as 141 lies on that list: “We had the most jobs ever in the history of the United States. Almost 160 million jobs, right?”

Why is it a lie? They say: Of course there are more Americans working. That’s because there are more Americans today than ever before.

so then its true, it just might not mean as much as it should.

Anyway Fauci said testing isnt the top priority now, so lets continue to follow his guidance. Once Trump finds some qtips at Walmart, he can send them along to the states.

Trump has already shown that he’s not president you ever want to have in a crisis situation.

Uh, no, in fact the exact opposite of that is true. Even before the first American died of the coronavirus Trump shut down travel from China. Have mistakes been made in dealing with this? Yes, they've been made all over the world. Would Biden be better at handling this? Give me a break.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

No one cares about Trump’s tax returns

Actually, most people care, because they want to know what their leader earns and how he earns it. It's the basis of transparency.

If your leader tells you "I only earn 100k a year", and his tax returns show he earns 50 millions, you will probably not vote for that man the next time around. Conversely, if he tells you "I am a billionaire" and his tax return show he's not even close to being one, you will probably think about it twice before voting for him again. Not to mention of what would happen if the tax returned showed he deals with a disproportionate amount of russian companies (totally hypothetical example, of course).

4 ( +6 / -2 )

Trump: "Stop playing political games"

Also Trump: "Liberate all Dem states!"

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Right wing nutters playing the fiddle while the virus sweeps though their regions.

Seems like the people are revolting against all these liberal governors and mayors, well, the good thing is, this all helps Trump, smart move.

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

What? He said something ridiculous? Who could have seen that coming?

3 ( +4 / -1 )

@arrestpaul"Politics are played". You could set an example by refusing to play politics.

I'm not a politician. I'm an individual using this forum to express my personal opinions. I'm not in the US, but if I were that would be a guaranteed right. I believe in the democratic principles underlying the US republic. Not in Trump and follower's wannabe autocracy where political opposition is being attacked. In the US the opposition is still permitted to question the state and its leaders.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

@bass4fNo one cares about Trump’s tax returns, no ones.....well, except the Haters.

More bifurcation: no one OR haters. Could it be public opinions are a bit broader than that oversimplification? But to be expected from those pushing for authoritarian systems to replace those that still have underlying democratic provisions.

Trump says governors playing 'political game' with virus tests

That is because many of these governors ARE playing politics with the virus tests.

Sure; Cuomo, Newson, Whitmer (all Dems), and Hogan, DeWine, Gordon (all Repubs) all say the federal response is lacking... So who is "playing politics"?

The American people have clearly seen this President do nothing but play the political game with this virus since he was briefed on it by both his intel agencies and by US representatives at the WHO in December. His fundamental objective throughout the entire previous four months has been to ignore, downplay, then short-change the virus - not to save lives.

Result: 40K Americans are now dead - and how many more will be added to that total?

And what do we see daily - Dem and Repub Governors begging for federal help - and what they get in return is some freak clown show straight from the WH daily at Five-0-Clock. A two year old ranting about his ratings and how no one is telling him how good he's done - all while saying he has "total authority", yet is "never responsible." Then he incites violence by his Fox News-fed mobs - "let us free so we can get infected and spread the virus to all our friends and family!" - as they wave their confederate flags....

Next week we'll likely be over 50K fatalities - and this Moron will still be fiddling while his country burns...

The problem is Trump people think that Coved-19 is not serious at all because they say we already went through Coveds 1 ~ 18 already and the current Coved is just the 19th version. We survived the first 18 so Trump people say the economy should be fully open since they were open during Coveds 1~18

Trump says governors playing 'political game' with virus tests

@willib Once again, Trump is correct

Is 'playing political games' allowed in your country? Or does your state allow opposition.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

"So how much is this testing going to cost and can we afford

Why would you possibly care about the "cost of testing" when the alternative means risking another pandemic peak and the total re-closing of all the economy? Experts say that mass testing is the only way to properly reopen the economy. Do you have another viable method? (note that I will only value your opinion if you are an epidemiologist, biologist and/or doctor).

1 ( +2 / -1 )

More bifurcation: no one OR haters. Could it be public opinions are a bit broader than that oversimplification?

Public opinions, eh....

https://thefederalist.com/2020/04/20/our-goal-must-be-a-total-return-to-normal/

The most dangerous people in America today are not the protesters defying social distancing to get their lives back to normal. The most dangerous people are those who say we will never return to normal, and that they have the new rules all picked out for us. No thanks. For many progressives the virus is like climate change on crystal meth, a fast moving emergency that requires the government to seize power from citizens.

If understandable fear is what drove Americans into their homes and succeeded in flattening the curve of the virus in our country, then it is courage that is needed to see our way back to the lives we left behind. The ancient rites bequeathed to us and which we bequeath to our children is a chain that must not be broken. Society cannot long survive social distancing.

Death will play its sinister trick on all of us one day. But it is not undefeated. Death has never conquered humanity. Even in the darkness of death’s most ominous shadows human beings take strength in each other. Together we preserve all that is wonderful. We must not surrender to a dehumanizing “new normal,” but bravely go forward and claim our lives and society back.

But to be expected from those pushing for authoritarian systems to replace those that still have underlying democratic provisions.

Vote out these liberal governors and mayors.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

If Trump truly believes that this whole coronavirus thing is overblown and under control, then he should hold lots of political rallies with his supporters. They could get together in packed stadiums without any face masks, hugging and licking one another, coughing into each other's faces as much as they want. Then we would rapidly see the results of natural selection. We would once again see proof that the scientists were right, and Trump wrong.

Overall, we rate The Federalist a borderline Questionable and far Right Biased based on story selection and editorial positions that always favor the right. We also rate them Mixed for factual reporting due to the promotion pseudoscience and three failed fact checks.

I personally would never trust or take what this kind of site publishes seriously, but to each his own truth, I guess.

How about we get enough tests first to see how widespread the problem really is.

Ruth’s Chris Made $468 Million in Revenue but Gobbled Up $20 Million in Small Business Relief

https://www.gq.com/story/ruths-chris-small-business-steakhouse

When Congress passed the $2 trillion stimulus to help the country weather the coronavirus outbreak, it created the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP)—a $349 billion fund for small businesses with 500 or fewer employees. If the business uses more than 75 percent of the low-interest loan to keep paying employees, then the entire amount is forgiven. In less than two weeks, it was completely out of money, and the Small Business Administration website is refusing any new applications until Congress manages to replenish it. That seems likely to come through in the near future, since Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said a $300 billion deal is set to close soon, according to NPR. But more money won't solve one of the fundamental problems with PPP—it's not just small businesses that can make a grab for these small-business loans.

Take, for example, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, which has more than 150 locations and more than 5,700 employees, and is owned by the publicly traded Ruth's Hospitality Group. The company made $42 million in profit on $468 million in revenue last year, which the company partly spent on more than $5 million in stock buybacks, and it has $86 million in cash reserves. Ruth's Hospitality Group successfully applied for the maximum $10 million in PPP loans for two of its properties, even as the company reports that it has furloughed a "significant number of field and home office team members."

To Basically shorten this up and to get to the point, Schumer basically is saying if not every single small business can have access to funds by the PPP then No business gets it. Essentially, Schumer is once again doing another screw the people if it hurts Trump.

Nice.

Sorry bass but I have no idea what you're talking about. Moving on.

Trump's problem are the mixed messages. He is telling people to listen to the experts who say to continue with social distancing, then on the side he's trying to foment unrest in Democratic states to end social distancing.

Fauci has been very, very clear that these protests to open up are counterproductive to the problem at hand.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Yet our President want's you to "Liberate" yourselves - so you can catch and spread the virus - to your family...

You apparently didn’t read the latest the Atlantic report how being indoors is actually worse than being outdoors.

I guess you didn't either since your link was to the Guardian. You and Trump want to abolish social distancing measures - what, is 40K not enough? Knowing Trump, maybe he wants to get the number up to as high as he can - a new ratings record?

Again, this just helps Trump.

As the Trump supporters here show from their increasingly weak and desperate posts, nothing can help Trump - other than resigning and saving you and him further humiliation...and more lives.

So how many of the "Let's get back to work" Trump supporters here are willing to put their children at risk?

So liberals don’t need to eat? Good, that exacerbate the situation and further help Trump. Maybe Nancy doesn’t need to eat, she has ice cream and 2 of the most expensive refrigerators money can buy.

As has been suggested several times, if you need a Liberal opinion, you need to ask the one running around inside your head...

The tragic thing is, most will probably say yes...

Hope so, God willing....

Here's one admitting their children come in second to their President - any more?

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Again, this just helps Trump.

How do armed protests in the streets help Trump, exactly? As far as the world is concerned, it just makes America look even more chaotic and badly governed. As for America, 66% of people are scared the restrictions would be lifted too soon, so the protesters aren't really the majority there.

Maybe Nancy doesn’t need to eat, she has ice cream and 2 of the most expensive refrigerators money can buy.

Everytime you post this, I will repeat it again : your favourite president has a toilet made of actual gold. Who are you trying to pass off as a rich elitist? And by the way, what kind of fridge do you think Hannity and his fox news friends colleagues? Where do you think they live? Certainly not amongst the people they preach to. They're all vastly richer than you are and will ever be, and made those riches by exploiting your fears and lying to you on a daily basis.

Pelosi has a net worth of 16 million dollars. That enormous. But Hannity has a yearly salary of 36 million. And that's his salary alone. Don't you think it's a little bit hypocritical of him (and you) to try to make Pelosi, a woman less rich than he is, look like an affluent, out-of-touch person?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Sorry bass but I have no idea what you're talking about. Moving on.

I’m sure, but small businesses do...anyhoo...

Trump's problem are the mixed messages. He is telling people to listen to the experts who say to continue with social distancing, then on the side he's trying to foment unrest in Democratic states to end social distancing.

Gosh, so many of the experts got it wrong, but liberals think Ezekiel Emanuel’s 18 month lockdown is the best way to defeat the virus?

Fauci has been very, very clear that these protests to open up are counterproductive to the problem at hand.

I deeply respect Dr. Fauci, but he’s said a lot of things and a lot have proven to be wrong with all due respect, but one thing he does agree with on Trump, he does think certain industries need to restart, so that’s very encouraging.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

but liberals think Ezekiel Emanuel’s 18 month lockdown is the best way to defeat the virus?

Nobody thinks that because he (still) never said that. And you repeating it over and over again will not make it true.

I guess you didn't either since your link was to the Guardian. You and Trump want to abolish social distancing measures

Not just me, half of the country.

As the Trump supporters here show from their increasingly weak and desperate posts, nothing can help Trump

Wrong, the longer the people are out of work and the longer the Governors and mayors resist calls from the president to re-open the country on some levels, it definitely helps Trump

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

How are the authoritarian systems like China and Russia working out these days

@bass4I wouldn’t know, have no desire of interest in visiting either of those countries.

Previous posts you've, using one of Trump's new words, you've 'excoriated' China while saying positive things about Russia. Making comments like that suggests you might know something about them without having to actually visit either.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Not just me, half of the country.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/04/19/poll-coronavirus-restrictions-194377

"Almost 60 percent of American voters are worried that lifting restrictions on public behavior too soon will lead to a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths.

According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Sunday, 58 percent of registered voters expressed concern about a loosening of restrictions, compared with 32 percent who worried that the restrictions would stay in place for too long. Three percent said they were concerned about both scenarios."

If you think that 32% is "half the country", well I have news for you : it isn't. It's one third.

but liberals think Ezekiel Emanuel’s 18 month lockdown is the best way to defeat the virus?

I'm sorry but I have no idea who this is. I'm guessing he gave a radical position about the virus so you went ahead and decided that was the position of everyone to the left of the GOP?

I deeply respect Dr. Fauci

It sounds like you've changed your mind about him. You said we should listen to the experts and ignore what Trump says. Would it be fair to assume you now want to ignore the experts and listen to Trump? Because it sure sounds like you're going against social distancing.

The entire nation as with Japan is faced with a dilemma where politicians influenced by so called scientists who are actually still in the guessing and playing the assumption game are taking advantage to "play" the political game. And the media as well as so called "pundits" with professional degrees which means very little any way, are trying to "influence" the political positions rather than to solve and resolve the problem. That included BOTH that like and dislike, Trump. It is also those who are blindly true to conservatism and liberalism as well as socialism and most probably communism or totalitarianism. And sadly those that believe that their "political" party actually represents them and should be allowed to do what each party is doing is now the scapegoat to all this.

But worse, they are letting the media, which is being funded by the very ones who are making a major profit from all this to "influence" our feeling, thoughts and even their rationality and logical thinking process. Look at the arguments placed.

This is not the "Charge of the Light Brigade" or "Custer's Last Stand"...

This is "worse" than the Hiroshima Atomic Blast... Lives are at stake but in all that there is the media and the entire scientific and finacial community is reacting to this. And by the way, they are without any hesitation taking advantage to further their own agenda, individually as well as a group.

The point to all of our opinions must also look at, if it was man made, there must be a reason and who or what entity/ies are actually benefiting from all of our suffering. No one or entity will take this kind of action without a "benefit" potential at the end game. It is those that we must find and attack and not those who are trying to solve the immediate problems and the need. China would not have cause this to happen and take a blame (be the scapegoat) for it if there were not other endgame benefits.

easy, because of people can see that Trump is pushing for this and this is what the people want,

Except that's not what people want. That's what a minority of the people want. Around 32%. So it will look good for 32% of the people, and not good for... All the rest.

Working for the people in my butt.

So you're saying that because she's rich, she can't possibly care or work for the american people as a politician? This is a percfectly arguable point (and an extremely very left-wing by the way), but... You do realize the president and the majority of his staff is waaaay richer than she is? Can you comprehend the sheer hypocrisy of your (and their) position?

Sorry bass but I have no idea what you're talking about. Moving on.

This is how we should all be dealing with Bass when he switches through avoidance-through-gibberish mode.

So you counter a claim about public opinion with a quote from a writer from a rightwing magazine?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I'm sorry but I have no idea who this is.

Here you go. Always happy to help.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2020/04/07/ezekiel_emanuel_us_must_stay_locked_down_for_12-18_months_until_theres_a_vaccine.html

*Realistically, COVID-19 will be here for the next 18 months or more. We will not be able to return to normalcy until we find a vaccine or effective medications. I know that's dreadful news to hear. How are people supposed to find work if this goes on in some form for a year and a half? Is all that economic pain worth trying to stop COVID-19? The truth is we have no choice. *

It sounds like you've changed your mind about him. You said we should listen to the experts and ignore what Trump says.

Yes and yes.

Would it be fair to assume you now want to ignore the experts and listen to Trump? Because it sure sounds like you're going against social distancing

Well, I won’t listen to any of the Trump hating machine that advocates a 2 year lockdown and a demise of this President.

Interesting, but we have to take liberal opinions seriously? What? Why?..

You do realize nowhere in here it says that the country will or should stay in lockdown for 18 months.

"We will not be able to return to normalcy" does not mean "everyone will need to stay at home until auttumn 2021".

You are grossly misunderstanding what he is saying, and I suspect you are doing it purposefully.

"We need to prepare ourselves for this to last 18 months or so and for the toll that it will take. We need to develop a long-term solution based on those facts. It has to account for what we are losing while this fight goes on, things like schooling and income and contact with our friends and extended family."

SuperLib: You said we should listen to the experts and ignore what Trump says.

bass: Yes and yes.

Then how can you support and defend Trump encouraging protesters to go against what the experts are saying?

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Since "testing" is the subject here... if you are really scientifically minded... think logically and rationally...

Testing does not stop transmission or cure those infected or produce a vaccine or bring the economy back... not on the short or even the long shot in any scientific method and assumptions and theories....

IT IS AN ANALYTICAL DATA PRODUCING TOOL and its "reliability" is ON THE KIND OF TEST, THE CRITERIA FOR THE TEST, THE QUALITY AND THE RELIABILITY, and a few more besides THE SAMPLING (if not total) as well as the TIMING to give a MEANINGFUL ESTIMSATE and NOT A 100% FACT to get data to allow evaluation and choose the most meaningful and reliable factors to come to a conclusion... but it is still an ESTIMATE... (NO SCIENTIFIC RESULT IS PERFECT)

So which comes first: RESPOND and CARE or TEST AWAY and GET MORE TESTS and FUNDING while the entire nation and much of the world DIES?

Let us put all this into perspective... SCIENCE IS NOT THE TOTAL ANSWER... (It is only a method to get the correct and reliable data for consideration.) THE CORRECT DECISIONS AND THE CORRECT ACTIONS TAKEN IS THE ANSWER... THAT IS MADE BY MAN AND NOT AI  OR MACHINES… That is because Man has WISDOM and VALUES which goes beyond skills and knowledge and literally "tested" for many millions of generations…. That is why we "exist" here on earth today... Something which even science cannot do…

I guess you didn't either since your link was to the Guardian. You and Trump want to abolish social distancing measures

Not just me, half of the country.

As has been pointed out, that is incorrect and false...

*In the poll, 58 percent of registered voters say that what worries them more is that the U.S. will move too quickly to loosen stay-at-home restrictions, resulting in the coronavirus' spreading and more lives' being lost.*

*That's compared with 32 percent who are more concerned that the U.S. will take too long to loosen restrictions, which will harm the economy.*

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/meet-the-press/poll-six-10-support-keeping-stay-home-restrictions-fight-coronavirus-n1187011

As the Trump supporters here show from their increasingly weak and desperate posts, nothing can help Trump

Wrong, the longer the people are out of work and the longer the Governors and mayors resist calls from the president to re-open the country on some levels, it definitely helps Trump

It's right - and your own comment above citing clearly false and incorrect information for all to see is proof of this growing weakness and desperation...

Thank you for helping prove my point...

Interesting, but we have to take liberal opinions seriously? What? Why?..

Irrelevant.

I don’t get how the opinion of one writer, liberal or conservative, can be used to counter claims about public opinion.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

trump and the WH are projecting onto others what is true about themselves again!

Webster's dictionary defines Projection, in part, as: "the externalization of blame, guilt, or responsibility as a defense against anxiety."

trump is frustrated because his re-election is slipping through his fingers. He can no longer ride the coat tail of Pres. Obama's success and claim imaginary victory. His incompetence as a leader in a time of crisis has been on display for the world to see.

trump's inner voice "It is unfair that you record and repeat everything that I actually say. How can I lie to people if you keep telling them what I said? You are all so mean and nasty!"

3 ( +4 / -1 )

You do realize nowhere in here it says that the country will or should stay in lockdown for 18 months.

That is what the architect of Obamacare wants, yes. That is not what the growing masses want especially the ones that feed us. By the way, liberals need to eat and use the facilities as well, really.

You are grossly misunderstanding what he is saying, and I suspect you are doing it purposefully.

No, sadly, no, wish I were.....

*"We need to prepare ourselves for this to last 18 months or so and for the toll that it will take. We need to develop a long-term solution based on those facts. *

We can do it and have the necessary industries go back to work? Or do you have your own farm and pharmacy or hardware store?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

I don’t get how the opinion of one writer, liberal or conservative, can be used to counter claims about public opinion.

It does, it is sadly very real and very relevant.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

As has been pointed out, that is incorrect and false...

I vehemently disagree.

In the poll, 58 percent of registered voters say that what worries them more is that the U.S. will move too quickly to loosen stay-at-home restrictions, resulting in the coronavirus' spreading and more lives' being lost.

Tell that to the people of Michigan and Virginia, ask if any of those people protested these draconian measures.

Thank you for helping prove my point

Judging by the growing masses of protesters, evidently not.

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

That is what the architect of Obamacare wants, yes.

Not it isn't. He clearly says the opposite, it is there in the video, and written in black and white in the transcript. And yet you refuse to understand it and continue to believe only what you want to believe. Therefore, there is unfortunately no way to have a discussion with you. It's really mind-boggling.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Seems like the people are revolting against all these liberal governors and mayors, well,

A few crazy nutters are not the 'people'. The sensible people are staying at home and keeping safe.

the good thing is, this all helps Trump, smart move.

ROFL, it doesn't.

It just shows clearly Donny's level of mental deficiency, again!!

4 ( +5 / -1 )

He didn't say the lockdown will last 18 months. He said the virus will be with us for 18 months

And he basically in that was saying it would be better for the country stay in lockdown for 18 months, unsustainable.

What can we expect from a reader of The Federalist.

Probably the same as we can expect from most liberal sites.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

And he basically in that was saying it would be better for the country stay in lockdown for 18 months, unsustainable.

No he didn't.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

One man’s opinion can counter the poll numbers.

A tiny minority of people protesting can counter the poll numbers.

The logic of someone who disagrees with the fact that men are generally taller than women by telling us he knows a woman who is taller than most men.

You can’t have a reasonable discussion here.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Trump's supporters on the far-right don't care about numbers or math. They love putting their feelings over facts. That's why they're so easily triggered.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

bass: And he basically in that was saying it would be better for the country stay in lockdown for 18 months

Look, at some point you're going to have to come to terms with your logical side that wants to follow the experts and your emotional side that wants to follow Trump. You keep getting caught in the middle trying to support both, most likely because that is what Trump is doing.

Personally, I think you should support the side that wants cautious reopening with the guide of the experts in certain areas. That means it might take some time to open up other parts. The danger is that we put ourselves in worse conditions and we only have one shot at this. It's really the only choice we have.

You should distance yourself from the protesters as they are being emotional and throwing caution to the wind. They are a brainless, small portion of a minority and they are at odds with your logical side.

And finally, stop throwing nonsense into the discussion. You know that no one knows that Emanuel guy and misrepresenting his thoughts and pretending we all support/believe him is just a strawman, something to distract from you playing both sides of the fence.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

A tiny minority of people protesting can counter the poll numbers.

A number that’s growing with each passing day.

You can’t have a reasonable discussion here.

Because it seems sadly liberals don’t want one.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Look, at some point you're going to have to come to terms with your logical side that wants to follow the experts and your emotional side that wants to follow Trump. You keep getting caught in the middle trying to support both, most likely because that is what Trump is doing.

Not really.

Personally, I think you should support the side that wants cautious reopening

I do, I just don’t support the screaming of the Trump hating crowd that wants the shutdown to continue indefinitely.

You should distance yourself from the protesters as they are being emotional and throwing caution to the wind. They are a brainless, small portion of a minority and they are at odds with your logical side.

I just can see what’s going to happen, if these mayors and governors want to sacrifice their careers, then that is what will happen.

And finally, stop throwing nonsense into the discussion.

I hope liberals take their own advice.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

the side that wants the shutdown to continue indefinitely.

Nobody wants that and nobody ever said that. You invoke Ezekiel Emanuel each time, and I have shown you every single time that he never said what you insist on believing he said. You are having a debate with a reality that doesn't exist.
