One must wonder the thought process of this man. Shut down 1/4 of government over the most important American holiday of the year knowing full well his chances will subside dramatically come 2019. He might as well slug himself in the face.

Why should he accept anything less than the full payment? He said Mexico was going to pay for it, so I don't know why he would suddenly demand less of them.

No, he should stick with his original assertion, and make Mexico pay for the whole thing, not just part of it.

The pathetic deplorables can't even get enough to build their wall on gofundme. I thought they wanted a wall. Between gofundme and the Mexicans, it should be payed for many times over.

I think is thought process is very clear actually, the point is, the Democrats for some odd and benign reason or at least NOW hate border security and would be content with the country slipping into lawlessness. But these same idiotic politicians would never allow any of these illegal aliens to live next to them or get anywhere near them, but they most definitely want their votes, after that, they’ll do to them the exact same thing they do to Blacks, shun them, now that’s as racist and as sad as it gets. The president never said anything about giving in or compromising, could that happen? It could, does anyone know? No one knows yet.

I'm glad I live in a country where the executive and legislative branches of government are controlled by the same political party, as opposed to following some system that was designed by 18th century slave owners.

That's fine, you're allowed to be wrong.

Ditto.

You say that, but within three posts you'll be posting something right out of the right-wing deep-state fake-news unicornverse MSM bubble that is not based in reality.

Ahh, if only conservatives had that kind of power in the media...lol

I would love to see Trump get up to the podium after announcing that Democrats agreed to fund less than 5% of his wall. Just say he is winning, his base cheers, and we all go on with our lives.

No thanks.

So, it’s a good thing that the Democrats took the house? You didn’t seem to think that at the time.

By the end of Trump's presidency (which could be very soon), based on his not so successful fundraising, it looks like he'll have a 30-foot high wall that is only 30 feet in length as well!

Actually, this might be better because now the Dems will be in the hot seat if things go kablooey.

the Democrats for some odd and benign reason or at least NOW hate border security

If this is the case, then surely every Republican President that didn't build a wall also hated border security.

It also seems that Trump also hated border security because he did nothing about building it for two years, and waited until the Democrats gained a majority in Congress before doing anything ie only once he knew it could never be built.

Oh, I thought you were going to say it’s good for democracy or something like that.

Never mind.

So the Republican Party that freed the slaves

No, it was just a name switch game. Proof is the KKK, bundies, Dylan roof, white supremists, and David Dukes vote republican. Why would the KKK vote for the party that freed the slaves? The KKK want slaves. Also, Reagan was "Republican" but he inked 3M greencard amnesty.

Not really

You can say the "Liberals" don't want the wall but Reagan was the one who gave away millions of greencards with no strings... Did Obama or Hillary ever do that?

So sad that this controversy has reached boiling point leading into Christmas. I hope that everyone involved can set things aside for a few days to just enjoy Christmas and remember the joy we can all share regardless of our differences.

Merry Christmas to all the JT staff and all you commenters out there. It's been an interesting year exchanging opinions with you all. All the best to each of you.

and I’m not a liberal

But you are since you voted for Reagan (gave out millions of greencards). Obama never gave greencards like that. Reagan was a liberal and there is a lot of proof about that.

Why don’t they hire all those people who want to come in to build it. Pay them a fair wage and give them a limited work visa after a certain amount of hours worked. An endless stream of people moving North, paid minimum wage to contruct “The Grand Wall” - El Pared Grande - right next to El Rio: a beautiful wall full of colors and surprising dimensions that will surpass Disney World. A new tourist attraction with giant food courts, movie theaters, sports stadiums, museums. Trump thinks big but not big enough.

Nope:

"If you say who gets fired, it always has to be the top. Problems start from the top, and they have to get solved from the top, and the president’s the leader, and he’s got to get everybody in a room, and he’s got to lead. And he doesn’t do that, he doesn’t like doing that, that’s not his strength."

"when they talk about the government shutdown, they’re going to be talking about the president of the United States, who the president was at that time. They’re not going to be talking about who was the head of the House, the head the Senate, who’s running things in Washington. So I really think the pressure is on the president."

“FACT – the reason why Americans have to worry about a government shutdown is because Obama refuses to pass a budget.”

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Most definitely because now they will have the power of the purse, so let’s see if they will squander the chance (they always do) and see if they can really govern or just launch investigations after investigations, two years later what did they do for the people.. Nothing except for investigations, they’re doing the same crap they did, talked all big and mighty and lost the House in 2010 deja vT on the horizon.

Maybe they can revive the bipartisan immigration bill that would have passed had GOP leadership not been so afraid of their radical, fringe elements.

3 ( +3 / -0 )

The radical conservatives have controlled the GOP long enough and we are seeing the effects of it now.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Refuse to talk about politics on Christmas but OMG that shot of the sunrise and the White House is spectacular.

Wow.
