She is a Canadian immigrant who entered the US during the Obama administration. Thank heavens for the stricter immigration enforcement under Trump keeping racists like her out.

In my book it's not unreasonable for a woman to believe her safety is being threatened when a man in a secluded area of central park tells her he will do what he wants and she isn't going to like it.

The video shows her swinging the dog around by its collar, almost choking the poor thing. It desperately tried to get away from her.

If she had felt threatened by the man, surely she would have put the dog on the lead and taken them both off at speed to a more public, safer, part of the park. Instead she treated the dog like a piece of luggage and continually approached the man, uttering threats at him while he can be heard telling her to keep her distance.

Not sure jail time is in order, but surely a hefty fine and a ban on keeping a dog.

I don’t think it’s over the top. She called the police and lied about Cooper, saying he was threatening her. If he hadn’t recorded the incident he would have been arrested and charged, maybe even shot by police.

The woman needs to do a bit of porridge, not only to publicly demonstrate the enormity of what she did, but as a deterrent to others.

You can’t say that. We all have different ways of reacting to certain situations, I will not put myself in this woman’s head, don’t know what she’s thinking, but judging from her eyes, she looked very scared and when you are very scared you often don’t think rationally. Some people can handle “stress” well, other can’t. I’m always calm and rational ans my wife at the slightest trigger comes unglued, we are all different.

I think what got it over the line as an international news item was the fact that it was filmed, and you could see and hear the woman digging her own grave by lying shamelessly as the guy filmed it.

But was she shamelessly lying? I wouldn't be so sure. According the man's own account of events, this is what he said to her before the video recording begins.

“Look, if you’re going to do what you want, I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it,”

I think cooler heads will prevail in October and this charge will be tossed out of court, and rightfully so.

Women walk in secluded areas because they can rely on the police to immediately come to their assistance if they feel threatened in any way. But now that this is no longer the case, perhaps you are right.

Informing someone that you will be calling the police for assistance and telling them exactly what you're going to say is hardly a threat. If it was racist for her to physically describe him as an African-American, was it also sexist for her to describe him as a man? Or are these just physical characteristics that are often the first thing a 911 dispatcher will ask you when you report a crime in progress?

This idea that calling the police on African Americans somehow puts their lives in imminent danger is completely unsupported by statistics. Sorry.

For what exactly? To be guilty of filing a false police report there must be no reasonable doubt that she knew her report was entirely baseless. Can you really say that given her obvious distress, and given that she knows she's being recorded but doesn't hesitate to call the police anyway. She mistakenly (but not unreasonably) believed that the man threatened her and that she was well within her rights to report this to the police. It's a hysterical report, but not a false report.

I watched the video. Your interpretation of it doesn't stand up.

I don't think the video is very helpful since it only catches the final moments of the encounter. My entire interpretation of the event is based on the statements made by Mr. Cooper off camera.

Did he, or did he not, admit that during the incident he said: "I’m going to do what I want, but you’re not going to like it".

The entire case will turn on this.

What exactly did she lie about? Her own perception? She said an African American man was threatening her and her dog and she probably believed that. She had every right to inform the police of this belief even if it turns out to have been wrong. The police exist to resolve these differences of opinion.

At no stage could his behaviour be described objectively as "threatening". His tone was reasonable and he didn't shout.

A threat does not have to be uttered loudly or with an aggressive tone. It's entirely possible to calmly threaten someone's life while having a gentle smile.

Apparently, the story goes is that the man was offering the dog a treat and that he was saying to her a few times he has something nice for the dog, she thought that his approach was creepy and with all the sick people out there why wouldn’t she e scared and cautious?

What evidence is there that she lied? As long as she subjectively believed in the truth of her own interpretation of events (regardless of how objectively wrong she may have been) there is no lie and therefore no false report.

The woman was in the wrong to have her dog unleashed in a bird protection area.

So she should hang for it?

That breaks the park byelaws. The man who was also a bird watcher asked her To leash her dog. She instead phoned the cops.

Which she had the absolute right to do For fearing for her pets safety. You can’t be too careful nowadays.
