..ohhhh I blame Kevin Costner...He only had one job to do.

Pathetic waste of talent. To throw it all away to cocaine and grass. Couldn't hire the best detox and psychologist to figure out what drove her to this self abuse? What about all the "friends" around her who did not intervene?

in my opinion Houston and Winehouse sound very different.

Lesson for today kids, don't do drugs.

Ya Napolean... a new "war against drugs" campaign. Just what the world needs.

Why anyone has sympathy for this woman is beyond me. She obviously had talent and wealth but decided to throw it all away for crack and coke. Could use her face on a new "war against drugs" campaign

For a little reminder of the splash she made when she was new, go to YouTube and search for "Whitney Houston Letterman Saving" and you'll see her debut on that show in 1985.

Serrano

According to the L.A. Times report, in the days before her death she was exhibiting clear signs that she was in trouble.

"On Thursday afternoon at the hotel, Houston drew the attention of reporters and security staff with her erratic behavior, dripping sweat and disheveled clothes."

Out of it on Meth by the sounds of it.

Read a headline else where that she "beat Bobbie Brown to death", some people are heartless.

and since she passed away in Hollywood, the autopsy will state that she died of "natural causes"..so sad.

Rest in peace, Whitney Houston.

She may have died of drugs, but none of us know that yet, so let's be careful to keep our speculation just that, and not make accusations until we know the facts. I never was a fan, just respected her talent and thought it was a shame when she had her struggles. But she did try to fight back and I believe she deserves our respect until we know the truth (which will probably be after the Grammys). The Japanese media should do the same because some have already jumped the gun and have associated her death with drugs—very irresponsible reporting.

I remember her first chart topper. This gorgeous, vibrant young woman with a voice that could send you so high. Tragic. She really had everything. It really is a sad day.

Poor beautiful soul. RIP

Not really too shocked by this. It was well known and documented for years that she had problems with drugs.

She had wonderful talent but she blew it by abusing drugs which destroyed her singing voice and then eventually her life.

RIP Whitney! Thank you for the wonderful songs you left behind. Thank you for that great performance at Budokan many years ago. It's still in my heart..

What a voice. R.I.P.

That didn't take long.

Young to die but I don't feel much sympathy for people who snort their talent up their hooters until it thunders out of their behinds.

80's stars simply aren't the narcotic harderned ancients we saw in the sixties and seventies. Heh, and I'm talking gold inserts to replace nasal tissue kinda resistance.

Not a huge fan, and really had no idea about all the drug and alcohol abuse, but I had a lot of respect for the woman and was rather surprised and saddened to read this morning about her death. RIP.

Bit of a shock there.

Stunning voice, and an inspiration to many.

Evidently they'll do a tribute to her at the Grammys tomorrow. Will surely be emotional for many people around the world!

RIP, Whitney. Your songs are often sung by others, but no one comes close to how well you sang them.

Such a talent, great voice sorry to see her pass so young. Seems none of the great performers are living to ripe old ages, must be the lifestyle. Lets hope this trend doesn't continue.

We are witnessing the passing of a whole era of great stars slip away lately.

She was too young to die. The cause of death does not seem to be natural one. If drug again, it would be only matter of time as well as others.

Very sad... she had a wonderful voice.

It feels like a part of the 80s has been lost... seemed that we also might lose George Michael recently if it weren't for expert medical treatment ...

Hang in there 80s stars!

Thank you Whitney. RIP. < http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHmdu_I_0zI>

Shocking but entirely expected. It's a wonder that with so much money she failed to purchase the support she so clearly needed; that those surrounding her must have been so enamored of the money and fame that they failed to take her best interests into consideration.

We have lost her long ago, before she physically left us. She has lost her voice, squandered her talent and was a wrecked drug addict. Too bad, she could sing very nice. Clear voice, nice appearance, pretty face.

I don't really understand, how so many gifted person with outstanding talent and wealth can destroy their lives so foolishly. Maybe it is not enough to know how to sing, they should learn how to live, how to use the gift they got for this life and how to survive. Not easy. RIP

Long time coming.

Yes, as zichi wrote above, "A recent court case proved Michael Jackson was killed by his doctor......"

And the cause of death: Drugs ...

0 ( +0 / -0 )

zichi, news elsewhere say the cause is under investigation at the moment

0 ( +1 / -1 )

This was a shock. RIP.

Say no to drugs.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Actually, there should be no surprise that Whitney died at 48. The surprise would be that she lived as long as she did. Over the past years the entertainment tabloids kept headling that drugs had left her with one foot in the grave. So sad ... but once those drugs snag their evil fangs into a person, it's difficult to shake them loose.

Not only Whitney, but countless others are battling demons brought about by the use of drugs. And drugs are easily obtainable everywhere nowadays ... even here in Japan which only decades ago was fairly drug-free.

Drugs ... how to eradicate them ... probably a solution that will never be reached ...

And how many other stars will fall by the wayside as did Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, and on and on ... ?? The neverending story ...

So young. Am in shock.

The world has lost an amazing and irreplaceable artist. She had a gifted voice of an angel. I hope people will remember her for the great music she made and gave to this world, rather then the events that took place in her personal life because nobody is perfect. She will truly be missed by all people who have a great love and passion for music. RIP Ms. Houston.

She's like the Nori-P that got away. RIP.

Vernie.

Same as Karen Carpenter, and many more.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

no more "Crack is Whack!" jokes

Whitney R.I.P .

So many deaths lately... RIP

Whitney Houston's downfall was so long and sad, but to me it will not overshadow her many accomplishments. A voice of an Angel that's gone way too soon. R.I.P.
