After what they have done in the last two years all of the GOP members of the House intelligence committee should be forced off in the next session.

For the record, getting rid of Paul Ryan and Bob Goodlatte will be a net brain gain for the House.

Getting rid of any republican would be a net brain gain for any branch of government. ROFL. Oh my . . ., Har! Smh.

None of the top three is without baggage.

The nasty world of US politics, in this case the even nastier world of the Republican Party.

Regardless who the GOP choose, he'll continue to serve his Party's purpose, which is first and foremost to ensure wealth protection for America's ruling class - and their 'global elite' backers.

If there's an actual 'messy leadership struggle', it will be among factions within the ruling class - and their 'global elite' backers.

Don’t think having someone who was shot and nearly died is the best choice for such a postion.

"Jim Jordan of Ohio, who is waging a longshot bid to take the gavel."

Isn't Jim Jordan another sexual abuser? I guess he's ripe for the position, then, in this WH.

Oh, if you think 2018 will bring the GOP problems, just wait for 2020. Trump has taken over the party to such an extent that a GOP without Trump is now unimaginable - but that's where we'll be. Add that to demographic trends immensely unfavorable, and the GOP is in for a world of pain over the next decade.

And that's why they're so eager to stuff the courts with conservatives. They know it will be their final hold on influence.

"GOP risks messy leadership struggle"

Pffft, it's going to be the Dems who are going to have a messy leadership struggle after they fail to win control of either the Senate or the House.

"Oh, if you think 2018 will bring the GOP problems, just wait for 2020"

Actually, Laguna, I can't wait for 2020! Hee hee!

Serrano, it's likely the Dems will take the House in a few weeks - and then Trump is in for a world of trouble. Ever heard the term "tax returns"?

Laguna, ever heard the term "33,000 deleted emails"?

Like Goodlatte, but Ryan, I agree, getting rid of him would be the best thing for the GOP.

it's likely the Dems will take the House in a few weeks - and then Trump is in for a world of trouble.

Forget Trump The country will be in an even bigger mess.

Ever heard the term "tax returns"?

Actually, if the Dems take the House, there is a bit of a silver lining, the Dems will be so obsessed with impeachment filings and wanting investigations, they will put that front and center and that might help the GOP the way The creepy porn lawyer and the lefts attack on Kavanaugh energized the right. They’ll raise taxes, you’ll see businesses leave once again, they’ll alienate the middle class once again and try to impose more PC and a radical progressive aggressive agenda on the masses and within 2 years they’ll lose the majority like they did in 2010, so let them have their fun if they do indeed retake the House.

Serrano, I think we're quite familiar with the term "33,000 deleted emails." Ever heard of the term, "Russia, please find those 33,000 deleted emails"? And ever heard of the term, "Retired from politics so no longer relevant"? How often do the Dems Bring up GWB at this point? Let it go.

Not a Democrat or Republican, but.., media concentrates much too much on the political nature of Washington and not the perspectives needed on issues on hand and the legislation process that affect the nation domestically and internationally. True.., those in power positions do have some "control" of the direction and the processes involved in determining the outcome of any legislation, but it is imperative that we also know of the political insiders and the special interest lobbying that "influence" the legislators into taking sides and affecting the outcome. It appears that political power positions are also becoming special interests.

This power struggle does not help run the country. With so much turmoil between political parties and within the parties themselves, we have lost sight of the true intended role of Senators and Representatives in handling "national" and "international" issues from the non-political perspective. It appears that much too much time and effort is being spent on the politics of the self-righteous and not on the pragmatic and sensible issues of governing the nation. In that sense, Washington has "exposed" the entire nation to not only special interests domestically and externally, but also to massive numbers of self-serving people from all over the world, looking to "take" from the US what ever they can.

Kazetsukai - yes, the dichotomy in political issues is unfortunate - but that's what is called "democracy." Different groups have different ideas of how the country should be run, and these groups tend to coalesce into two political parties. One may not agree with all of the ideas under the "big tent," but it's worked well so far. At least better than China or Russia.

"leadership"?? -- you forget you are talking about Republicans. They don't do "leadership" -- they come to Washington DC to line their pockets with lobbyist CASH.

I'm hopeful that a real conservative will rise to the leadership post. Someone who will tell President Trump to STFU, force action on reducing the national debt, push for term limits, balanced budget, less DoD spending, and

many other ideas around discouraging illegal immigration by pushing to constitutional amendments to require citizenship only for people legally in the USA with either permanent resident or citizenship status. Also need any illegal aliens inside the USA to count against the "quota" for each legal visitor/immigrant from that specific country - some "sticks" are needed to offset the carrots. Low skill guest worker seasonal visas which can only be renewed outside the USA are needed too.

Employers hiring people without a work visa need to be fined 3x-10x the wage for each offense. Whistle blowers get 1/3rd of the fine.

Biometrics at all border crossings for anyone caught illegally in the country. They should be blocked from returning, forever. Missing any court hearing about asylum should lead to automatic deportation, period. If they are illegally in the USA and haven't filed for asylum, automatic deportation.

Prison reform would be good, while I'm dreaming.

Federal legalization for all drugs would be good. I'm a libertarian on this. Adults are reponsible for their actions and the actions of their kids.

And the nepotism laws need to be strengthened to prevent what the Trump family has done. Nobody has the balls to raise a court case to get that handled.

It should be easier to remove people from govt office.
