Who cares what it’s called, haven’t have these fools nothing more serious to discuss right now?

Agreed. People who see racism everywhere are often the biggest racists themselves.

No, it is a definite yes that monkeys can be infected with monkeypox, but it is unknown or possibly if have the rodents can be infected with it on this CDC list, and since we are not medical professionals we need ro rwely on the experts:

If the name is not appropriate and gives the wrong information about the disease then there is no problem changing it, what do you think would be the problem if it was called "Orthopoxvirus C" for example? would people take less care? would treatment be less effective?
For monkeypox there is a well known movement of professionals that consider the name improper, if Spanish professionals organize in the same way and justify the demand it is possible to change the denomination as well.
If people use it with that intention and people feel offended by it they have a right to say it, and if the name is not actually descriptive of the infection there is no problem with changing it.
That did not happen, as you already knew because taking a decision when none was taken is not a valid definition of the word overruling, as proved by your own reference of the meaning of the world.
It does not come from monkeys, it comes to humans mainly from rodents as the experts have clearly explained, just repeating something wrong do not make the experts wrong and you right.

In a statement Friday, the U.N. health agency said it has also renamed two families, or clades, of the virus, using Roman numerals
This agency is really a joke. No one cares about how the Romans feel now?
I hope Tedros overrules this committee too like he did last month.
Monkeypox was first named in 1958 when research monkeys in Denmark were observed to have a “pox-like” disease, although they are not thought to be the animal reservoir.
It comes from monkeys--there's racism among the monkey crowd?

If you hear the term monkeypox and you immediately think of black people? Then you are the racist- not the medical term being used,

The World Health Organization says it's holding an open forum to rename the disease monkeypox, after some critics raised concerns the name could be derogatory or have racist connotations.
Well then, they should rename the Spanish flu since it didn't originate in Spain- only that Spain was the only one that was honest about it.
Also, MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) as it is offensive to Arab people.
Also Swine flu as it may be offensive to cops..
Bird Flu since it may be offensive to attractive women (especially in the UK)
Chicken pox since it may be offensive to meek and cowardly people.

When a name sticks and has beneficial levels of public recognition, use it.
Changing it out of political correctness, to some obscure name, will set back awareness and public health initiatives. The WHO will be killing people just to bump up their woke purity rating.
Sack the people who justify their salaries by doing this and use the money to buy and distribute vaccines.
