The warning came as Pfizer on Tuesday said clinical trials of its COVID pill reduced hospital admissions and deaths among at-risk people by almost 90 percent.

The American drug maker said its new treatment, Paxlovid, held up against Omicron in lab-testing.

Chief executive Albert Bourla called the news a "game changer" and said he expected approval from the U.S. medicines regulator as early as this month.

I wonder if Pfizer will get their friends at the FDA to trickle out safety data on this pill over the next 55 years...

Bad: Omicron spreads much more effectively.

Good: Omicron is less likely to cause death.

But is that combination good or bad? Hard to know until we have all the numbers. For example, if Omicron kills half as often as Delta, but is 4 times more effective at infecting people, it will cause more deaths overall. If it kills 25% of what delta did and spreads twice as well, you have half as many deaths.

Either way, the smart course of action is to do everything you can to keep yourself from ever catching it.

I understand the need to take time and due diligence regarding the strength and danger Omicron poses, but as stated above, it was first reported on November 24th, and since then has spread to 77 countries, but still we haven't heard of large number of deaths or even increased numbers of sever cases. We also can assume that even though it was reported on the 24th that the variant has been spreading for a longer period of time, so why are we always being told, it's too early, this could be bad? I have been vaccinated twice, will get the booster when it comes, wear a mask, but I feel this amount of fear spreading is doing nothing to help anybody.

Omicron is just a fancy name for the Flu. Glad to see that people are finally waking up to the constant fear mongering to force them to take the booster jabs. When Omicron fizzles out, they will have a new super varient worse than all the others.

If you test positive, feel fine and have no symptoms, but then die 27 days later in a skiing accident your death will be reported as a Covid death. This is the actual, official policy.

If Omicron is a weaker virus you actually want to get infected by it as it is almost like a true, attenuated vaccine. The commercial vaccines are not true vaccines in any sense of the word. A true vaccine stimulates the two main arms of the immune system. One is antibody production (IgM and IgG) and the other is the cellular-based humoral immune system, ie, Killer Cells. The latter is more important in preventing disease, but these commercial vaccines do not stimulate this, the most important part, of the immune system. These synthetic gene based therapies largely just produce neutralizing antibodies in the blood stream which do not stop the vaccine at the forts or ports of entry in the mucosal cells of the lungs to stop an infection before it has even a chance. This is basic Immunolgy 101 . This is why none of the commercial vaccines have not worked to date and will never work. And from what everyone is witnessing it is self evident. If you can't see it you aren't thinking straight.

There was a similar announcement not that long ago about Merck's new drug. But during their recent FDA panel discussion we could see that the data showed it to be much less effective. The later trial showed it to be slightly less effective than placebo! Oh, and it appears to be mutagenic (against DNA) and carcinogenic....
