Given Biden’s history with geopolitical affairs Afghanistan, Ukraine, Venezuela, Iranians and how he recently dealt with the Saudies embarrassingly, there’s not a lot of confidence in the guy and his administration that these people are tough because their history hasn’t shown that.

Any evidence to support your claim. Because Biden says he would use force to defend Taiwan if it was attacked by China.
The Philippines? China has nothing to do with the Philippines.
Sure. But that was before Nixon went to China and said that the US considers Taiwan to be part of China and that it doesn't support Taiwan independence.
I guess you consider Nixon a Paper Tiger as well?
bass4funk
Bingo!

The issue is Biden not Pelosi. China knows that Biden talks the talk but can’t walk the talk. Biden will not definitively commit The United States to defend Taiwan if China attacks. He is a Paper Tiger and is willing to acquiesce over China’s hegemony over Taiwan and the Philippines. Indecisiveness will result in making Guam and Hawaii the front line to China’s aggression. Taiwan supported the US during the Vietnam conflict by allowing US forces to be based there and to support air missions in Vietnam. Biden is failing a loyal and strong ally. Instead, he should be basing American air defense facilities and forces on Taiwan to strengthen the alliance against China.

Nancy Pelosi is the one visiting, right?
Then China has nothing to worry about. If Taiwan believes her personality and thought process represents America, Taiwan will beg to return to China.

Funny, most Europeans don't know anything about American history or culture.

@theFu, any plans China has are fluid. The CCP has several large competing factions within it, each with their own priorities. Power shifts among these factions over time and as it does, the faction with the most power tends to be able to change the plan to reflect their priorities. There will be a highly contentious party congress this October. Xi Jinping wants a third term as CCP General Secretary and PRC President. The CCP hasn't allowed anyone more than two terms since Mao held those posts, fearing the emergence of another Mao like figure. Xi has modeled himself after Mao in many ways and he has created many enemies within the party and among big Chinese businesses. The PLA, which is highly influential within the CCP, is fearful that the Xi's aggressive policies have left China isolated and friendless, making them weaker as a result. Some analysts are saying there is the possibility of a violent revolt within the party if it appears Xi is going to force his way into a third term. Nobody knows where China goes in that event. If however the other three major factions are able to prevail against Xi and new leadership is chosen expect there to be many changes in Chinese domestic and foreign policy. Whatever Xi and his faction may have planned for China will be out the window.

Pelosi should have been on a plane immediately when the CCP made that statement. Immediately.
This assumes that Taiwan had invited her. Delaying just lets an issue fester. Better to address it head on and see that nothing happens. All talk, unless they can bully the opposition.
The CCP isn't ready for a war, but in a few more years, they will be. Best to get these things figured out before that time - when it is better for everyone except the Chinese govt. They have a 50, 30, 20, 10, and 5 yr plan. Each more ambitious than the prior. Central planning is good, when it is win-win. That's what I wish for the Chinese people, not just in China, but around the world.

Imagine how the US and the Israeli regime would freak if some country's foreign affairs minister were to visit with the Palestinian Authority in East AlQuds.
Or the Chinese started talking about how their foreign affairs minister was going to visit with the government of Free Donetsk and Free Luhansk.

Yeah but Taiwan. You know, Taiwan and America. You know, this news article about Taiwan and America.

2008 financial crisis. There won't be a bail out next time.
Bob Fosse
Geopolitical issues?
’A very large American public’ couldn’t find Taiwan on a map.
Pukey2
It shouldn't be Pelosi visiting Taiwan. It should be Xi.
bass4funk
Because I know she’s going to botch it or at the very least capitulate and appease these people.
I am, just not her.
kaimycahl
@Pukey2 LMFAO take your meds!! America doesn't need China to bail them out. Remember it was america who changed their pampers, had it not been for the west, china would still be looking like a 3rd world country where everyone walked around in military uniforms and tattered clothing. China doesn't want a war, what are they going to do invade america. LMFAO let it happen they will have billions of guns pointed at them not just the military but its citizens. China have you fooled just as Russia had China fooled!!!
I don't care what flag it is. As long as they let America's economy sink. What's the bet America is going to ask China to bail them out again, like last time? Ain't gonna get a warm response from China this time.

“Why is a Pelosi visit to Taiwan causing tension?”
Because drama queens can’t help getting their knickers in a twist and seem to enjoy it.
They are either busy telling politicians to ‘focus on the real issues’ or making mountains out of molehills and predicting WW3.

Not just out of their league, but in a totally different sport.
bass4funk
No, it just falls in line with a very large American public that she and this admin are way out of their league when it comes to dealing with geopolitical issues.
Ok and then??
Wrong as usual, but that fact doesn't stop you from jumping ahead of the thought process.
Alfie Noakes
Yep, allowing a corrupt, neo-liberal, octogenarian imperialist war-monger to attempt to start WW3, and all because the Americans cannot accept anyone who refuses to kowtow to their empire.

Taiwan will definitely welcome her with open arms and that's all that matters so that's that.
Hervé L'Eisa
Pelosi should go, and let the CCP do whatever they plan.

Hey, look who’s siding with a couple of murdering dictatorships over an advocate of democratic values and human rights!
It’s a silly B (as in “Bass”?)
Um, ok. Sure...

I think China, like the Saudis, will tell Pelosi to pound sand.

The Chinese don't know what's going on because the media is serving the ccp. This is just an internal struggle in China.

Is the point of continuing this extremist's line of bunk to say that Putin is like a school boy who can be 'goaded' into having others fight his fights for him?
OssanAmerica
I think it was foolish of China to make such threats. Now the U.S. can not back down and appear as conceding to China's threats.
If China is not prepared to start a war with the United States by militay interdiction, they should not have made the threat. Regardless, the Taiwanese air force should escort Pelosi's flight over their ADIZ.
On second thought, maybe the USAF should be doing it jointly.
Laguna
I look forward to the day China is reunited - under the flag of the Republic of China.
ian
So Biden planned to grovel before the Saudis all along that's genius!
Nemo
There was no goading of Russia. Putin lied and then invaded based on a lie.
And the PRC does not determine when who or where American officials meet with or what they discuss.
The Chinese can pound sand.
quercetum
No, that is the goal and it was successful. The Ukrainian is no mistake. Pelosi is the same. The US knows exactly what it s doing.
Fighto!
Free Taiwan has every right to welcome whomever they want.
Pelosi - if invited - has every right to visit free Taiwan.
China can just shut their mouths for once.

That could coincide with China's celebrations of the Aug. 1 anniversary of the founding of the People's Liberation Army, the military wing of the ruling Communist Party, and possibly overlap with a planned phone call between Biden and President Xi Jinping.
You would think this administration would learn, after what happened as a result of the US goading Russia to invade Ukraine.
