Fires reach Athens suburbs; thousands evacuated

It's all Greek to me but for the Hellenically challenged and those who couldn't be bothered Googling it:

"ένα γραμμάριο πρόληψης είναι καλύτερο από ένα κιλό της θεραπείας"

= "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure".

Athens in particular and Greece in general has no preventive (fire-break) programme in place. The whole effort is reactive, by which, it is often too late! As the proverb goes: "ένα γραμμάριο πρόληψης είναι καλύτερο από ένα κιλό της θεραπείας"
