Thanks all for the comments so far. As an American, I am embarrassed with the ignorance of many ofmy countrymen about other countries and their health care systems (e.g. Canada, Australia, and the U.K). It is all evil socialism to them.

I'm fairly sure you're right. But I think most complaints are not with the 'system' of healthcare but a slow erosion of the investment needed to keep it running. The figures in the article of the percentage of GDP spent on healthcare in the UK are perhaps revealing. We maybe just need to spend a little more.

The benefits of the welfare system abound. An individual dies for lack of a bed seems rather irrational. Would think sleeping on the hospital floor would be preferable to dying, however, that would mean the caregivers would have to bend over.

The main problem was the push for private funds. The health trusts are closing public hospitals because they have to pay private companies to use their hospitals! Sad but true.

It looks like the Japanese system is doing pretty good compared to this, and also compared to the republican/Trump US, where there will be no health care. At least for the time being.

Bruin,
Brits with any sense have left or are planning to leave before the imminent collapse of quality of life.
Racist old baby-boomers that are one foot in the grave helped assured the destruction of the UK as we know it for future generations. Fed to gorging point with lies from odious right-wing demagogues like Farage and delusions about a Great Britain back in the day that didn't ever exist.

Straw poll for Brits here. How many of you would like to change healthcare systems with the US? Thumb me down if you must but I really would like to know (my guess is less than 5%).

Brexit will save us for sure. Once we're back to the shilling and have sent the brown people home we'll be saving g three hundred and fifty gazillion an hour for the NHS. Boris Trumpson said so. And I saw it on a bus....
Forward, into the dark!
